This can't be- Fairfax County teaches all 4th and 5th graders that Mali is a peaceful nation known for textiles, led by Mansa Musa, the richest man in history. And that islam is a Religion of Peace.
Completely neglecting its hundreds of years of muslim slavery, which is what built the kingdom of Mansa Musa. All that the kids learn from FCPS is he traded in salt and gold and not about the human misery that built his empire.

It's for the children after all- they deserve the truth.

Of course. The kids are just future voters with a warped, confused, wrong view of the world. No big deal. FCPS should just continue with this misinformation.

I really don't want to get into your stupidity. But you're just riddled with logical fallicies.

1. You have no facts to support your statements about how the school system presents information on Mali.

2. Correlation doe not imply causation. Using your illogic, US is equally shit because we were also attacked by terrorist. We had slavery. We also have a large population of another 'religion of peace' and have been in a myriad of wars.

I've had to live through several children going through the stupid Mali unit in third and fourth grade. Same info each year. It takes at least two weeks and goes something like this
Mansa Musa was the emperor of Mali. Richest man who ever lived. Muslim. So rich he had thousands of his subjects carry gold blocks over long distances, distributing them as they went. Mali was peaceful and known for it s beautiful textiles and traded in salt and gold. Also first emperor to make the pilgrimage to Mecca. Something about architecture.

It's presented in a little booklet they put together with maps, coloring, and fill in the blanks.

No mention of vast slave trade.

As far as your ridiculous second "point" - Islam is presented to FCPS students from age 8-18 as enlightened, beautiful, freedom loving. No mention of slavery, denigration of women, FGM. Or of little things like the slaughter of the Qureshis at the hands of mohammed. Teach it all or don't touch it, but don't teach lies.

Muslim countries only work with a benevolent dictator, such as Mansa Musa. Unfortunately, most Muslim leaders forget the benevolent part and oppression is the result.

^^^ Thousands of years of history summed up in two sentences.

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed.

You're wrong. That was history, Mali was peaceful back then. Not now.

This was the curriculum implemented by the state during the Allen administration. It was their lame attempt at trying to be culturally proficient. At the same time they ordered textbooks calling the slaves "workers". Be sure to get it right when casting blame on this nonsense.
