Hopefully this won't happen to any of us, but if the day comes when your home is invaded while you are in it, you might have wanted to have access to a weapon, something other than your limp dick. Because the truth be told, calling the police won't result in saving your life since it will be ten to fifteen minutes before they are able to respond. In that time a lot will happen and there will be nothing you can do except piss your pants when you realize you can't talk your way out of the very bad situation. Given that they are invading your home while you are there speaks to the fact that they probably don't care and will have no issue eliminating any witness testimony.

I for one don't want to be unable to at least attempt to defend myself. You can be the one who fails your family and home, not me.

So freaking dumb! Trying to pull a weapon on an armed intruder is statistically the WORST possible thing you can do. You are creating a life-or-death confrontation that you will almost certainly lose. What a dumb idea!

And given the million-to-one-like chances that any home will be broken into in such a manner, it is perfectly plain that all the NRA-scripted, Clint Eastwood, hang 'em high, cold dead hands, macho-macho-man blabber that comes out of the mouths of gun-nuts is simply an attempt to shore up low self-esteem and inflate manly-man ego damaged by some sort of insecurity or slight of the past. All it really does of course is keep emergency rooms and undertakers busy.

Get a gun if you live in the wilds of Alaska or in some recluse's cabin deep in the mountains of Montana. Otherwise, you'd be better off with a Snickers bar.

Somebody around here isn't familiar with the 2nd Amendment.

If you're are not man enough to protect your family and/or gun, then you must be a chickenshit FFxU poster. You never give up or allow your weapon to be stolen.

The 2nd Amendment was part of the slave compromises necessary to get enough states to ratify the Constitution. What it does is promise that Congress will not try to end slavery by disarming state militias in the slave-holding states. Those armed militias were the first (and only) line of defense that stood between southern whites and the much-feared barbarism of a slave uprising.

Stupid is being prepared for the wrong thing. Out of sheer stupidity. Having a gun in the home reduces your life expectancy. You are more likely to be killed by someone else, and you are more likely to be killed by yourself, either accidentally or deliberately. So, if you have some sort of death-wish, buy a gun.

By how much exactly? Please show your work and the numbers in absolute terms.

All told, living with a gun in the house increases your chances of dying from a gunshot wound by a factor of nearly four. You could look it up but are too fucking stupid to have done that already or to do it now.

No doot aboot it!

Several 747s will be en route to Dulles this week to make sure the show doesn't run out of hot dogs. Analysts are expecting 5.7 million hot dogs to be consumed next weekend, and a total of 4.9 billion calories to be consumed. Seismologists will be in town to study movements underneath the Earth's surface due to such a massive amount of weight consolidating into such a small area.

Should be a blast!

And if by chance such a confrontation should occur, what is your plan of action? To hide under the bed crying "Take what you want but please don't hurt me!"

Once you know where your family is, hopefully all upstairs, the proper course is to shoot on sight anyone you encounter, not waiting to see what they might do or to attempt to scare them by the presence of your weapon. Take advantage of the element of surprise. They likely didn't come in with the plan to shoot you immediately, so use that moment to open fire. Even if you miss on the fist shot, it'll scare them long enough to make the next ones count.

My go-to gun holds 17 rounds, and when I grab it from the nightstand there's another full magazine next to it.

Someone tried to break into my house awhile back. The police took over 8 minutes to arrive. They were cool with me keeping my weapon, just asked that I lower it while they checked out the house. The back door showed signs of forced entry. Their advice? "Don't shoot them outside - wait until they get in. You're in the clear that way."

Or maybe a simple gun accident will kill a family member.

You're way more likely to go on rampage and kill off your family than fight off a burglar with a gun in FFX county.

I said in absolute terms and to reference the actual numbers. 4X squat still equals squat.

What is the actual rate?

Hint: It's relatively tiny. Far, fer below the risk rate for many other common causes of death in the home. Which is why you want to present the numbers on a relative basis and not the absolute numbers. And it's only at that tiny rate because it counts suicides which are N/A for the vast majority.

How many of those happen every year? What's the actual rate again? How's that compare to other accidental deaths in the home?

Uhhh... No. There are far more burglaries than there are people going on a "rampage" and "killing off their family." lol

There are more and more people every year. The rate/100,000 actually is below that of past decades despite +100 million more guns sold over that time.

And, as suicide is generally, it exists at significant levels only among those typically with long histories of mental illness and substance abuse. A typical person has little to no risk of suicide simply because they have a gun any more than they do of hanging themselves because they have rope.

LOL! Recon by fire. This is how you kill family members you lost track of Then you have to live with the horror of your own stupidity until such time as it overcomes you, and you end up killing yourself as well. Thank God for guns!

Cool stuff for thieves to boost and sell. Be sure to put an NRA sticker on your car too, dumbfuck.

You must live in one of those neanderthal states. In the civilized world, your obligation is to use force only when other courses of action have been exhausted. You can get decades in prison otherwise.

You still did not explain how you will defend yourself in such a scenario. I guess you believe you will never have that happen to you. I have already successfully defended myself with a handgun from an attempted entry and assault. Held the perp utilize police arrived over ten minutes later. So you can keyboard quarterback all you want but don't write badly about others who have actually been in that situation. Theory is wonderful to discuss but reality is nothing like it. When seconds count, a gun in hand is better than your proposal to have nothing in hand!

As far as I am concerned, I feel sorry for your family who will suffer as a result. My family is here today thanks to me and my gun.

That was a great story! I am so glad you were able to use your coward stick in a positive manor. That happens very rarely (about 1 out of 24 times). The sad thing is that in reality you are putting yourself and your family in danger by having a gun in the house but we both already know that you do not have the brains to realize that.

lol!

1 in 24 times would be a relatively high rate dumbshit. With about 4 million burglaries/year and about 28% being while occupied, that would be about 1.1 million potential occupied events. Using your 1 in 24 number, that would work out to about 46,000 events/year.

Outside of suicides by those inclined by mental illness already, there is a trivial risk to having a gun in the house. As far as deaths and the numbers go, it's far below having area rugs or stairs or prescription pain killers or any number of other common items in the house.

The words of a pathetic asshole mean squat. Look it up. More than 30,000 people die from gunshot wounds in this country every year. Your chances of becoming one of those are nearly four times higher if you keep a gun in the home. Simple fact. Your chances of being murdered go up. Your chances of committing suicide go up. Your chances of being killed by an accidental gunshot go up. Friends and neighbors also face increased risks, but they aren't as high as those of you and yours. Despite your foolish fantasies and stupid self-deceits, actual criminals face virtually no increased risk at all.

Ding, ding, ding -- special bonus! Some 200,000 people get all shot up and scarred by gunshot wounds every year as well. But they manage to survive, thanks to very expensive medical treatment and often painful and difficult rehab programs. Your odds of enjoying a dose of all that go up as well when you keep a gun in the home. And that's all NEEDLESS RISK in exchange for fucking nothing. Nobody with an actual brain would go there.

Right. Here's more of that NRA swimming pool bullshit coming. You can see the brain-dead fucktards from many miles away. Just another case of fool-yourself stupid on your end.

Dead is dead, goober-tard. There are no different degrees of it. And having a gun in the home increases your chances of dying from a gunshot wound by a factor of nearly four. And that's in exchange for WHAT again? Oh, that's right -- FUCKING NOTHING.

Why do you guys continue to troll guntards? There is no sport in it. It is like hunting squirrels with a peanut butter baited rat trap that is nailed to a tree. They never catch on to the game.
Pro-gun people are victims and they do not deserve to be tortured like this. This is not clever trolling.

There's another bit of just plain asshole-level stupidity. The key to preventing suicide is to introduce delay -- time in which to rethink and reconsider. Guns do exactly the opposite -- they do a great job of assuring that a single moment of doubt or weakness will result in instant fatality. Among those who do manage to survive a near-thing suicide, the vast majority will tell you that it was a momentary and impulsive act, and that they are very glad to have gotten a second chance to live out the rest of their lives.

Guns in short are a public health hazard, and gun-ownership is itself a sign of potential mental illness.

The statistically superior option is to flee the scene. #2 is to hide. As noted above, the worst possible thing you can do is try to pull a weapon.

You've done no such thing, you transparent lying asshole. An armed intruder has the drop on you. He didn't arrive wanting to kill you -- most likely he thought nobody was home -- but if you force some him-or-you situation, he's quite prepared to make sure it's you. Reach for anything threatening and you die.

More obfuscation and bullshit avoiding the reality of the issue.

Yeah, it goes up... From squat to virtually squat.

Of the 30,000 deaths cited about 20,000 are suicides.

Of the remaining 10,000, the vast majority are young black men shooting each other.

Accidental deaths are at trivial levels relative to just about anything at about 600 - 800/year.

So unless you're a middle-aged white guy with a history of mental illness and/or substance abuse or a 15 - 30 year old urban black male, your risk of dying by being shot are trivially small regardless whether you have a gun in the home or not. Even if you are, the numbers are small in the scheme of things which, again, is why you want to reference things in relative vs absolute terms. 4X squat = squat.

The overall average lifetime risk for dying by being shot is roughly equal to that of dying in an aviation accident.

That's a bullshit line promoted by anti-gun advocates not by mental health advocates. "Normal people" don't commit suicide other than in extraordinarily rare cases and very small numbers. Normal people are not impulsive to the point of putting a barrel in their mouths. In fact, a history of clinically impulsive behavior is a primary indication for suicide. Typical suicides are not impulsive acts by persons otherwise. The vast majority of people will tell you that they regret virtually any stupid thing that they do after the fact.

I'm not saying a TV is worth killing for. But the thief may think it's worth dying over.

I'm killing over someone invading my home with the intent to do harm. I don't give a fuck if they're after a dirty sock on the floor - it's *my* sock and it's inside *my* home where no one has any business except my family.

If my wife is beside me in bed that's easy to check. My kid's room is next to ours and easy to check on the way to the stairs. Once I ascertain their location, anyone else is fair game to justifiably kill without hesitation. Or apology.

I live locally here in Virginia. Anyone breaking into your house may be killed if you have a reasonable fear for your safety or the safety of anyone within. Just keep repeating "I was in fear for my life, it was dark and I thought he had a gun..." No muss, no fuss, and no prosecution. If you were able to read, you'd know that several cases have happened in Virginia with no charges brought against the homeowner. Ask your mommy to read to you more often.

Let me get this straight, I used my gun to defend myself and my family, at the same time capturing the perp and holding him until the Police arrived. I did not discharge my weapon and nobody was hurt. Yet you call me a coward? I don't know on what planet you were born and educated, but here in the USA on the planet Earth that is a win for everyone involved. I graduated with honors from university and have not endangered anyone as a result of my gun ownership.

You on the other hand, when presented with a real life positive use of a gun to defend life and family, resort to discounting the act and calling me names because events don't support your thinking regarding firearms.

I have provided real facts while you provide only theory and misinformed rhetoric. Then you call me delusional and stupid for not converting my stance simply because it does not fit your ideology. I respect your right to an opinion, even if it is opposite of mine. That is what America is all about. You on the other hand can't fathom any other thinking than your own misguided stance.

Gun ownership comes with many responsibilities, all taught to me by both my father and others with considerable knowledge and experience in the handling and use of guns. I hope I am never again confronted with a situation that requires me to have to use my gun. In the event I do have to use a gun, I am happy and proud that I have the choice and ability to do so.

Again, you have not provided me with any alternative to a gun in defending myself in the situation that I was in when a gun was able to address the situation and all parties survived. I am not calling you names, I only ask you to provide a real life response to resolving the situation successfully and be able to talk about it if I had not had my gun available to subdue the perp. So far you have provided nothing! The same thing you will have in your hands to defend yourself.

You question the validity of the event that I described? Fine with me as it actually happened regardless of whether you believe me or not.

You write "You've done no such thing, you transparent lying asshole"

I am not a lying asshole but you are welcome to your opinion, wrong as it is.

You also write "I doubt that you have a family. Who would want to stay around a pathological liar?"

I do have a family. Here too you are wrong, but I do believe you don't care about the truth, only your own concept of what the utopian world should be. Any other concept that falls outside of your own beliefs you consider a lie, wrong, and to never have happened.

In regards to the comments about not being able to defend against intruders, wasn't there a young boy who defended himself against several intruders with a handgun this past summer when they attempted to enter the home? It was on the news. I guess that didn't happen either in your opinion.

Best of luck to you if you ever get in that situation.

LOL! The number of deaths in commercial airline accidents in a typical year would be zero. Meanwhile 30,000 people die every year from gunshot wounds. It's hilarious how stupid a gun fetish can make people.

One assfuck claims that suicides should be disregarded and that the numbers are very large. The next one claims that suicides should be disregarded and that the numbers are very small. 1 assfuck + 1 assfuck = 2 assfucks.

Of course they do, assfuck. You just try to Monday-morning-quarterback them all into mental cases because they did. That's just one more reason to believe that you are a mindless assfuck.

No, a JURY must believe that your fear was reasonable and that your behavior was justifiable. Blasting away at the first thing that moves will be a tough fit. Your perverted stupidity will not enter into anything except the big stretch in the big house that you will end up being sentenced to. Hope you like bologna sandwiches.

PS. Your guns do not mark you as big and special. They mark you as small and insignificant. They are in fact proof that you yourself realize just how small and insignificant you are.

Already explained was the simple fact that leaving the scene is the #1 option on the board. Cut out the back, run to the neighbors, and call 911. If you can't get to an exit for some reason, the #2 option is to hide somewhere and be very quiet.

Charges will be filed. There is no general right to kill people anywhere in Virginia. It is only the tiniest fraction of uber-justifiable and way out of the mainstream events that are not prosecuted. Swagger-boy will be going down hard.

Definitely. Living in fear is the way to go for sure. One of our local gun nuts - Dane Bramage - fantasizes that ISIS will attack his house, and that he'll fend them off with his gun collection.

The 20,000 suicides and 10,000 homicides (somewhere between 6,000 to 8,000 restricted to young black males), are not comparable events to accidental death as I was addressing. Aviation deaths include many/most not involving commercial airline accidents. About 500/year. When there are one or more large commercial airline accidents that will greatly increase those numbers. On a lifetime average basis, the odds of dying in such an accident work out to about 1:8,000. The odds of dying as a result of an unintentional gun shot is about 1:7,000.

It's more funny how ideology can blind people to objective facts.

Your fantasy of some high degree of risk and likelihood of death or injury represented simply by the presence of a gun in the home in the case of the average person is just that - a ideology-driven fantasy.

The 20,000 suicides are not a risk to the typical gun owner since normal people do not commit suicide other than in tiny numbers. In keeping with your general practice of omitting context, you attempt to twist the facts re suicide to fit anti-gun advocacy. You conflate impulsive aspects of a single event at a given time outside of the context of what is in +95% of cases a larger history of mental issues, clinical depression, and long-term substance abuse. What impulsive element does exist is within that context, NOT within the context of simple impulsive behavior by normal individuals across the larger population.

Likewise, you attempt to present the 10,000 homicides as generally applicable risk across all of the population. That's not the case. Unless you are a young black male involved in criminal activities and/or living in a high risk urban area affected by such persons, then you bear little to none of the associated risk.

In terms of broader risk that leaves us with about some 2,000 - 4,000 intentional risk events which are applicable across the larger population who may have a gun in the home. Of those somewhere between 500 - 1,500 are justifiable/excusable homicides which are by definition justified. The remainder combined with the relatively trivial 600-ish number of unintentional deaths/year is the more realistic risk. Which again in the scheme of things is tiny and dwarfed by any number of more common risks to the average person.

The above is borne out by the realities of numbers. If there actually were such a great risk as you present it then given the numbers of guns and households with guns there would be (at least) an order of magnitude greater number of associated deaths across the broader population. There are not. Sorry for your loss.

Pro gun people are fun to ridicule and yes they are ignorant as hell. What really pisses me off is the 229 billion dollars a year that American taxpayers have to shell out for gun violence. These guntards are often the same people that complain about the cost of welfare. We all pay out the ass for their childish hobby.

I really don't feel as comfortable as I did before the Paris attack. They warned us before 9/11 and we did not really pay attention. My mom watched the plane that hit the Pentagon track up 395 from Shirlington outside at a dogpark with the thought "that is not a normal flight route?"

I worry about the MD & VA burbs. The malls, the schools, sporting events. along with DC. I hope I am wrong.

Wake up, Cletus. It's simple fact. The closer you are to guns, the more likely you are to die as the result of one. Even you should be able to process that. If you have a gun in your home, your odds of dying from a gunshot wound are nearly four times greater than if you did not have a gun in your home.

There you go again! Happens like clockwork. Only the deaths of whatever YOU consider to be "normal people" can be counted. Pay close attention here ASSHOLE: Nobody at all deserves to die for the sake of your psychological shortcomings and pathetic little play-acting hobby. NOBODY AT ALL! Got that, you contemptible little cretin?

> The above is borne out by the realities of numbers.

Since you apparently lack the capacity to have grasped them the first, second, or third time around, let me point out again that what is borne out by the numbers is that 30,000 people die from gunshot wounds every year. Another 200,000 or so are shot up and scarred but manage to survive thanks in large part to the waste of very expensive medical talent and resources that gets devoted to treating injuries that never should have occurred to begin with, thereby directly contributing to rising health care costs for the rest of us. Maybe we need to start sending the bills for all this mayhem over to your house. The rest of us are getting kind of tired of paying for all this crap.

Uh, no. It's like how they have little to nothing to do with the risk of having a gun in the home for the vast majority of people as you tried to inappropriately use the numbers.

No, they aren't actually.

First of all, your 4X number is bullshit based on a study that was long ago debunked as you're intending to use it which the author doesn't even try to defend for such purposes. But it made it's way into the canned anti-gun nut talking points so uninformed ideologues like you can't let it go and continue to parrot it.

In fact, the study you're citing was based on a very small sample and counted the presence of a gun in the home even if that gun wasn't involved in the associated death. It also counted guns in or *around* the home, not necessarily even those possessed by anyone living there. i.e., If someone drove to the home and shot somebody, it was counted.

What you also don't know is that it was part of a larger study by the same author which, in addition to guns, also ranked various other factors as indicators of risk. That included such "risky" things like living in an apartment, living alone, alcohol consumption, etc. All of which were cited as greater risks than a gun. In fact, guns ranked well down the list. lol

Last, as before, you dumb "4X" number is meaningless with no basis for the multiplier provided. Even in the source study, the actual risk at 4X the base it still was small.

Nope, they just have little to do with the typical individual gun owner. They represent a particular group and are atypical in the opinion of mental health professionals, not just in my opinion.

Normal people do not attempt or commit suicide simply because they have a gun. Just as they don't hang themselves because they have rope. Or asphyxiate themselves because they have a car in the garage. Or feel compelled to jump from the roof of their building. Or (intentionally anyway) OD on opiate pain killers.

lol. Don't be mad cause I called you on your bullshit.

What I said is exactly right. If there were in fact some large risk as you claim simply due to the presence of a gun, then the numbers necessarily would be many times greater just by math. They also would be more evenly distributed across the population and not limited to the more specific groups of individuals as they are. But since objective analysis doesn't support your cause, you have to rely on bs like citing the 30,000 without distinction hoping that nobody will notice and crap like your "4X" number instead of citing an actual rate.

Again, sorry for your loss.

I have a gun on my coffee table 6 feet away. It hasn't jumped up and shot me yet. I guess I should keep an eye on it. Those guns are sneaky.

Don't know where you got your numbers but the national average is one per month at Gun shows. Meanwhile 33,600 people were killed in automobile crashes last year in the U.S.. So tell me again how dangerous gun shows are.

Uh YES, you worthless and degraded guntard asshole. Gun-related deaths are gun-related deaths. It's THAT simple. But you spend your cretin-time trying to explain them away. As if they didn't happen or didn't happen to people who matter to you. Such insanity is just another habit of poorly-balanced guntard assholes. Another aspect of being terminally skewed and stupid.

> No, they aren't actually. First of all, your 4X number
> is bullshit based on a study that was long ago debunked...

LOL! There are many studies, you massive El Dopo, and they all show the very same thing. Sure, you can toss out the rat-crap nonsense that the NRA puts out, but one independent study after another has shown the same effect and in nearly the same degree. The simple facts of the matter -- facts that the comic-book brains of low-brow guntards are too poorly wired to grasp and face up to -- are that having a gun in the home puts you at GREATER risk, NOT LESS. There is no serious debate of the matter. Just the babbling ignorance of guntard assholes.

> If someone drove to the home and shot somebody, it
> was counted.

So if someone drives to your home and fatally shoots you, it is not a gun-related death? Your efforts to exclude the painfully obvious evidence against your silly claims grow ever more absurdly strained and ridiculous. A normal person would be ashamed of posts like yours.

> All of which were cited as greater risks than a
> gun. In fact, guns ranked well down the list. lol

For the Nth time, you witless stooge, IT DOES NOT MATTER if there are greater risks in the world. The focus is on THIS risk (quite a needless one, by the way), and the FACTS are that a person who keeps a gun in the home is nearly four times as likely to end up dead as the result of a gunshot wound. End of story. Even if your "source" were correct in its rankings, it would not be relevant. You might as well start claiming that the risks of heart disease are a reason to ignore all the death, injury, and human suffering that your pathetic little phony tough-guy toys result in.

> Last, as before, you dumb "4X" number is

30,000 annual deaths and 200,000 annual injuries serious enough to require treatment in an ER are NOT SMALL, except of course in the tiny minds of denier guntard assholes. Meanwhile, the multiplier that you math-whizzes have such trouble with is merely an expression of the difference in rates of death from gunshot wounds among those who keep a gun in the home versus those who are smart enough not to. Read 'em and weep, guntard.

> Normal people do not attempt or commit suicide
> simply because they have a gun.

Such an utter dope! Suicide is a problem across society in general. People don't ATTEMPT suicide because they have a gun. They SUCCEED at it because they have a gun, as anyone but some maladroit mindless guntard asshole would have immediately recognized as the point of the matter. Guns greatly reduce the amount of time and effort involved in suicide while greatly increasing the chances of its success. Both of those are BAD THINGS, as I will certainly need to point out to just another garden-variety warped-brain guntard asshole.

> Don't be mad cause I called you on your bullshit.

Dream on, you ignorant NRA stooge! Facts are facts, and you don't have any of them. Meanwhile, it is an undeniable fact that your wonderful guns will end up killing perhaps another 85-90 people today, while severely wounding a further 550-600. The ER community will once again be busy, occupied in throwing expensive talent and resources at yet another wave of pointless death and trauma. Nice fucking work, you miserable little asshole.

> What I said is exactly right. If there were in
> fact some large risk as you claim simply due to

You don't understand math either. Know your limits, dumbfuck! Keeping a gun in the home increases your chances of dying from a gunshot wound by a factor of nearly four. It's what happens. You can't wish it away.

> Again, sorry for your loss.

I can't hear you through all the smothering of your stupid-ass claims that's been done here. You have no answer or explanation at all for ANY of the needless death and agony that guns directly cause in our society every single day. You desperately want to pretend that it's not there, but all you have to work with is your store of asswipe-ignorant claims and fables. You're just a pathetic guntard dopester asshole, cowering in the corner in hopes of avoiding a confrontation with the plain and simple truth of your personal culpability for all this gun-related damage. You won't be winning any prizes here or anywhere else with a rap sheet as tainted and disgraceful as that.

What percentage of deaths from automobile crashes occurred while driving to or from a gun show? What percentage of them was associated with an over-consumption of hot dogs?
