1. I won't get out of my lane.
2. I may slam on the brakes, get a high priced ambulance chasing lawyer and sue you and your insurance company and your insurance will skyrocket.
3. Throw &*%$# out my back window.....that may work best.

LOL, what an idiot. If you're getting tailgated all the time - which clearly is the case - it means you're doing something wrong. Get your monkey ass out of the left lane for starters.

I can count the number of times I've been tailgated in the last 5 years on one hand. Either I'm a genius or you're a doofus -- pick one. :-)

+1. Their little plan is just some nerd raging in front of a computer anyway. Then again the type of person who would throw shit out a window or intentionally try to wreck someone when they are the one being a cunt is probably something you could find on ffxu. That's why dash cams are great though. It's hard to prove someone unnecessarily slammed hard on their brakes to cause a wreck. Not so hard with a video. The following too close defense is wrecked by video evidence.

He could always say he saw a squirrel in the road. Anyone who rear ends another driver is always the one at fault as they were following too close. Dash cams would be no factor whatsoever.

I was driving to work one morning when a car tailgated me. I hit my brakes and the person swerved so hard he almost lost control. Tell you the truth, I never thought of being responsible for the death of someone before and it scared me. Now I try to get out of the way of someone in more of a hurry than me. The consequences aren't worth the headache.

Aggresive drivers have small penises or require Viagra. They feel superior when encased in a 2,500lb+ junk of metal and plastic. 93% of drivers are going to the same mundane destinations but some are just more frustrated with their lives. Sad commentary of the new millennium.

There is a difference between tailgating in the passing lane on a HIGHWAY (not to be mistaken with the roads "Lee Hwy" or "Richmond Hwy") and tailgating in traffic on city/neighborhood roads. Tailgater in the first instance is in the right. Tailgater in the second instance is in the wrong.

I don't know if the first instance is written in law but it's the way we drive on highways in the United States and if you were raised in the city and therefore had no opportunity to learn this or you were raised in another country - either way - the signal you (the driver in passing lane on highway) are receiving from the car behind you is merely a flag to alert you. The next move is on you (let him pass). There is no need to misinterpret it as aggression.

The tailgater in the second instance is being aggressive and unreasonable. There is no passing right-of-way on city/neighborhood roads because drivers need to make left-hand turns, etc.

But we've had this discussion before.

Wrong dummy. If someone's on a road like Fairfax County Parkway and they don't have a left turn coming up, they shouldn't be in the left lane.

LifeLessons: That is exactly my point. You nailed it. The local neighborhoods and and the local streets like route 50 and route 29. All the roads where the speed limit is 35 to 45 that is where it is continuously happening and needs to be ticketed. FFCounty Pkwy I will agree to drive in the right lane and let jerks pass me at 65 to 70.

It's the jerks in a hurry to get 50 feet ahead of another driver and then sit at the next light.

Finally, somebody here with a brain. Good job LifeLessons.

two weeks ago, I was in the left lane cruising along at 5 over the speed limit, maybe 3-4 carlengths behind the car the the left lane coming up on slower traffic in the right lane. guy comes behind me weaving through traffic and tries to zip by on my right hand side.

Too bad the there wasnt enough room for his 911 and he missjudged as tried to cut between me and the slower traffic

Ihad minor fender and bumper damage, he had to be towed away. he Spun out like a top and ended up in the ditch.

This response has a few things wrong with it. Number one is conflating aggressive driving and speeding. They aren't necessarily one and the same. Think about it. The second thing is related to getting stuck at s light. Sure it happens to everyone but people going faster are more likely to make it through the light and not wait. Chances are on a long drive they will make it through several lights they would have to wait at if they were driving like an old lady. Time adds up. You can easily waste an extra 8-10 minutes at lights around here. Add that ho for both directions... Can be 20 minutes a day. Five days a week ? Over 1.5 hours. Yea I'll take that time back and not sit around like a sucker.

One of two things....Aggressive driving or speeding.

LOL, people such as yourself with slow/boring lives don't really care how much time they spend in their vehicles. They have nothing else going on that is more interesting/exciting than sitting in a car, so why rush? It's understandable. :-)

So many people drive like the road is a f*cking video game, absolutely no regard for others on the road. Turn indicators for lane changing in a video game should be standard feature, lose points for not using them... maybe then we'll see an improvement in actual driving skills.

It depends. Often when I put on my turn signal, the person behind you will immediately speed up to keep you from moving over. I'll always try to use my snaps but sometimes you can tell that people will be assholes and it's better to move and signal at the same time.

I have to agree. The scenario when my hair gets raised is when driver in front of me does not want to get home. The car in front of him will get 1, 2, 3 car lengths as he goes from stop to speed limit in the most expedient fashion, while the driver in front of me has just finished getting his foot off the brake and and onto the gas and appears to be thinking about getting his car up to the speed limit. Errrrr

I wish he'd pull over and park and let those who have to fix dinner, etc. be about the business of driving, i.e. Paying full attention and keeping up the pace $&@!?

Yep. Whether you realize it or not though, you are literally correct - the driver doesn't want to get home. These people don't want to be at home - there's either nothing there waiting for them, or what is waiting for them (children) is so annoying that they have no desire to get there.

The same goes on their way to work, because their jobs are miserable and mundane - no desire to get there either.

So the best part of the day for these people is the commute. :-)

My clutch is slipping and I need to get my text message off, so fuck you. Not everyone drives a slushbox that's rolls as soon as your foot is off the brake. I'm not sitting in first with the clutch depressed for minutes either.

When I'm toeing the white line at the stop light, you'd best believe I'll be hitting the gas as soon as the light turns green. If I'm second in line and you're in front, you've got three seconds to move your ass or I'll lay into you with my horn. Fuck those motherfucking pieces of shit looking down at their phones when they should be driving!

I'm in no urge to get home or work, so I make the most of my commute. To hell with you F'er's and your rush. I have stuff to do in the car, write haiku, have breakfast, drink O'Doul's, admire my sweet stache, & on the way home, rub one out to pregame before seeing the old lady.

And you think that's right? If you're not in gear, you're not driving. Get off the road. What a mother-fucking dumbass. I hope you're a troll and not really such loser.

Not a troll.

You really expect everyone at red lights to be in first gear!?!? My clutch is heavy, I'm not sitting on it for the whole light, I'll press down on it once the light is green.

You must drive an auto, faggot.

You're the ass wipe holding up at the intersection, Dude? Here's a driving lesson for you: watch the lights on the opposing lanes, when they switch from green to yellow to red, get in gear. If you can't see the lights, watch the traffic: when the opposing cars start to slow or stop at their, get in gear. When your light turns green, do a quick intersection check to make sure some dumbass isn't running his red light.... nothing like a T-bone sandwich to ruin your day

You do have to be a little aggressive to get anywhere around here. People around here are rude pieces of shit. Many people won't allow you to pass or give you room to merge. You gotta take it. The only time I tailgate though in when trying to muscle my way into another lane.

As far as slamming brakes to deal with a tailgater, a few years ago a guy did that on I-81 and the tailgater wrecked and died. Manslaughter charges were filed against the man who slammed his brakes. I don't recall the outcome, but its not a good position to be in.

If I'm tailgated, I tap my brakes lightly, just enough to activate my brake lights, to get my point across. That works often. If that fails, then I take my foot off the gas until the asshole backs off. Even if I come to a near stop. Fuck them.

LOL. So you tailgate, and you get annoyed when you're tailgated. What a dope.

If people want to clog the left lane then I say they get what they get!
When shitstains intentionally swerve into the left lane to prevent people from going over the speed limit it should be allowable, by law, to injure them! It should be illegal for the stupid buses to get onto 66, cross 4 lanes of traffic to get into the left lane, go only one or two exits then swerve and cut off everyone to go 4 lanes to the right to exit! All that does is fuck up traffic even worse so that 5 people on the bus can get there quicker....

People that slow down in the left lane when a police officer has someone pulled over on the right shoulder should be throttled! I mean, they should be yanked from their car and beaten with the buckle end of a belt!

+1 I don't understand why people always do that. Even if someone's pulled over in the express lanes or other direction people slow down.

The only time I slow down rapidly is if I'm getting hits of Ka band, certain K band or a face full of lidar. VSP loves to use instant on Ka radar. Some people catch on and slow down with me, others keep at speed and get yanked.

Ok. I am the OP. No reason to not speak the truth.

Let's limit these responses to local roads and subdivisions only.
Don't care about Highway roads, yes, the left lane is for faster drivers.
I am referring to roads like West Ox, Shirly Gate, Germantown, Stringfellow, FairLakes Pkwy and Centreville road to name a few, plus the various subdivisions.

This is where the tailgating irks me, where someone is so close behind you that you can't see there headlights. This is the aggressive driving, etc. These are the A-Holes. Is it one demographic of people? No. It's everyone and anyone.

You won't be getting by me.

Same applies to any road with more than one lane in a given direction. Until you're president, you don't get to magically decide to which roads the left lane rule applies and to which ones it doesn't.

Teehee. You sure get tailgated a lot, which means that you drive like an old lady. I tailgate old ladies like you because it annoys them - which you've just confirmed by being "irked". Then when I inevitably pass, it annoys you even more. Funny stuff.

Depends on which rule. If you are going slower than the post speed you are legally obligated to the move the fuck over. If someone faster is behind you in the left lane, the law only applies to a "divided highway."

I drive recklessly but I try not to drive aggressively. I like to go 100+mph on 495 but I always try to pass on the left, I always signal, and I'm always hyper aware when I drive recklessly. If you need merge and switch lanes, I will slow down and make sure you can safely get over as long as you signal your intentions.

I always find these driving threads hilarious. The bottom line is that it is against the law to break the law. Speed limit means that's the limit, against the law to go over the limit in any lane. Following to close is against the law, period. Today it's raining, there are lots of idiots with their wipers on but not their headlights. Lawbreakers. Traffic are no different than other laws, you break the law you are a criminal. Period.

fucking morons are just brain-dead

if i am going the speed limit on ANY ROAD ANYWHERE IN ANY LANE, i am doing nothing illegal

no law or argument can change that if you are going 1 mile over the speed limit, your opinion is void

before you idiots start - "slower traffic" ONLY means traffic going UNDER the speed limit

Their have been some very intelligent responses here. I applaud those people.
Most people do drive with a sense of courtesy and then there are the others.
This has been an enlightening discussion.
Those drivers who arrive 5 minutes before someone else to there destination. Well, is it worth it?

The distracted drivers are becoming more the norm and more the danger on the road today especially with those GPS system.
The police need to crack down more on plus 15 mph over the limit in peak hours.

Not quite:

Impeding Traffic Law & Legal Definition

Impeding traffic is typically defined when not operating a vehicle reasonably, so as to block the normal flow of traffic. It typically is used in cases where a person is blocking an intersection or driving too slow and causing a log jam. Laws vary by jurisdiction, but are generally follow a standard of "reasonable operation". The following is an example of a state law governing impeding traffic:

" 169.15 Impeding traffic.

No person shall drive a motor vehicle at such a slow speed as to impede or block the normal and reasonable movement of traffic except when reduced speed is necessary for safe operation or in compliance with law or except when the vehicle is temporarily unable to maintain a greater speed due to a combination of the weight of the vehicle and the grade of the highway. "

To me, the normal flow of traffic is not always the stated speed limit.

Virginia Yield

46.2-804(1), 46.2-842.1

Yield left lane to faster traffic on signal. State police say this applies even when faster traffic is speeding.

If I am driving 35 mph in the left lane on a local road (speed limit 35 mph) and you want to pass me at 45 mph you are breaking the law. It's considered a low level speeding ticket. Know the law.

46.2-870 Speeding Generally - $6 per mph over the speed limit.

That's $60 plus $51 for court costs. Good luck.

it still comforts me that if a real dick head is bullying people on the highway, cutting them off, attackign them merely because they "didn't win"

that someone will blow their head off

it comforts me knowing bad drivers hear other bad drivers got their head blown off

You aren't much with the reading comprehension thing:

"Yield left lane to faster traffic on signal. State police say this applies even when faster traffic is speeding."

You betcha! That's 5 minutes earlier multiplied by however many destinations per year that a given person drives to. Adds up to a lot of time. (I understand that this time is meaningless to lugs like yourself who have nowhere to be and nothing to do, but I felt I should point it out regardless.)

Here's a fun fact about distracted drivers - they're almost never speeding in what you might call an "aggressive" way. They're typically bumbling along at the same (or slower) speeds as people like you - clogging up traffic, totally unaware.

Never going to happen slappy. Ever seen what happens when a cop pulls someone over on a highway in anything other than light traffic? The traffic on that road immediately reduces to a virtual standstill due to rubber-necking. So your bumbling candy-ass is just going to have to continue to put up with us 15-overs. :-)

50MPH in right lane doesn’t have to move over so dumb shit you can merge onto highway. What’s your problem? Can’t merge around 50MPH? What kind of junk you driving? just get behind him if you can’t get ahead of him. Lesson free.

Don't play stupid. Virgina law says move to the right even if the person behind you is speeding. If someone is speeding in the left lane,it's not on you to slow him down. Also, you mention math but you give an alliteration. Don't eat the crayons.

LOL, you're full of baloney. Two days ago you claimed you saw them pulled over but didn't know what for. Now you magically know it was speeding? So adorable.

The facts are the facts: I will continue to tailgate old ladies like you, continue to pass you, and continue to not get pulled over for it. And you will continue to be irked and pissed off, so much so that you even started a thread threatening to hurt the next person who does it to you.

That's just the way it's gonna continue to be. :-)

I love tailgaters. I have made good money off of them over the years. Anytime I want a new TV or just want some extra cash, I just wait for a tailgater and the money rains. In this area, there is no shortage of small penis men who get their testosterone running by being a tailgater.

Teehee. If only you actually had the balls to do anything, life would be so much better. But alas, all you can do is fantasize about it, because you're too much of a puss to do it.

See you in the left lane! I'll be the one on your bumper, stressing you out and getting your heart rate up all the while. :-)

Tailgaters are the ones stressing out with elevated heart rates. Your constant need to post in this thread proves it. Watching white knuckle tailgaters get red in the face with anger is hilarious. I'll be looking in my rear view mirror for the steam coming out of your ears.

Left lane blockers are the angry road ragers, hence why they block the left lane, other than minorities who don't know any better. The OP proves it.

Driving too slow? You could be slapped with $1,000 fine

Clueless drivers across the country are getting pulled over -- not for speeding, but for going too slow in the passing lane, reports CBS News correspondent Adriana Diaz.

Indiana is the latest state to begin penalizing drivers for holding up traffic in the left lane. When its new law begins next month, drivers could get tickets for as much as $500.

In Chicago, if you don't keep up the pace while driving in the left lane you could be slapped with a $1,000 fine and multiple-time offenders can be charged with a misdemeanor.

Road Rage: 9 Ways to Get Yourself Killed

In New Jersey, the fine for the offense went up to a maximum of $300 two years ago.

"We focus on the most aggressive drivers out there," NJ State Police Lt. Col. Patrick Callahan said. "I would agree going 90 is more dangerous than going 50, but doing 50 does come with some concern and some consequences."

At least 38 states have laws in place to fine for lingering in the left lane. In five states, fines can reach $1000 and 22 states classify the violation as a misdemeanor.

"Just like you should be fined for going too fast, you should be fined for going too slow," one driver said.

"I think it's about time. People need to move over," another said.

"When you have people just drive anywhere, it is chaos on the roadway," New Jersey State Assemblyman Declan O'Scanlon said.

He pushed for the state's law in order or to reduce accidents and anger on the road.

Driving slow can get you fined in N.J.

"One of the chief causes of road rage is people's failure to obey this very simple rule," he said.

Contrary to how some drivers use it, the left lane is not the "fast lane."

"You should be passing using the left lane," O'Scanlon said. "This is not a minor offence. When you cause people to change lanes more frequently or to pass people on the right, that is when you get the most severe accidents."

Enforcing the law in New Jersey is largely up to state troopers and Callahan said not all left-leaning drivers are targeted.

"It's those cars that are really obstructing the flow of traffic out there, sometimes even driving under the speed limit. That's who troopers are looking for, that vehicle and that driver that's really failing to keep right as they should," Callahan said.

Although slow driving in the left lane can cause frustration, it's not the primary cause of road rage. A recent survey found texting came was number one followed, by tailgating. The "left lane hog" came in third.

Not going to lie here, I went on Match.com and am still on the site. So, I was cautious and met my date at a mutually agreed upon location a few times. After I got comfortable with the date, I let my date pick me up at my place and take me out. Holy hell, what a tailgater he was. I honestly thought he was going to blow his top and plow into the car in front of us. Well, we had a few drinks with dinner and I mistakenly let him come back to my place. He insisted on paying for dinner that night, so I felt obligated to at least show him some appreciation. I basically resolved to give him a hand job. Of course, he expected more, but I'm not even sure I could have done more. I tell my girlfriends it's a micropenis. They laugh, but I wish I had a pic to show just how small it was.

Moral of the story ladies, tailgaters have small wing-wangs.

Definitely need to implement a more strict left lane law and stiffer penalties. Penalties should go as follows for people dicking around and screwing up the left lane:

First Offense: Warning (unless clearly being an intentional asshole to slow down others .. then skip to second offense penalty).

Second Offense: $250 fine

Third Offense: $500 fine + License suspended for 3 months

Fourth offense: Banned from every driving again and publicly denounced as an asshole

The time period for this penalty set should be over 24 months before it resets.

I prefer the left lane, and never drive over 40-45 mph.

When folks try to pass me on the right, I veer over to make sure they don't acutally pull this dangerous stunt. Then I wave, and shout at them to have a safe day.

while I wholeheartedly agree some of you keyboard warriors are probably actually stupid enough to do something like this it seems highly unlikely any of you would actually have the balls to actually do it
