Hi guys I just moved here from New Jersey. I was wondering if anybody knows of some good places to get home furniture in the DMV?

Thanks

Belfort Furniture in Sterling is a big showroom worth checking out.

^ +1 Huge place, and the salespeople aren't as aggressive as other stores.

I mean if you're not after Ikea prices...

There's a whole set of warehouse-type buildings off of Edsall Rd - I think it's General Washington Drive? - there's a Marlo, and some other big warehouse store. But there's also a Saah (unfinished pine stuff, relatively inexpensive but you'll need to stain it yourself) and a place that sells some really nice Amish-made oak pieces, mostly Mission-style but some other styles as well.

There are several more stores back there too but those are the ones that stand out in my memory.

There are several antique/consignment-type places on Route 1 in Alexandria, as well. Evolutions is one, then there is an antiques "mall" on Mount Vernon Hwy & Rt 1 that sometimes has some really good prices on old, well-made pieces.

As with pretty much anything, at Belfort you get what you pay for -- a $400 couch will last a few years, with the foam going flat.

Shit, first pizza and now furniture? The DMV is really branching out. How long did it take the OP to get his VIRGINIA license?

They have crappy furniture at the DMV. Stacking metal chairs with plastic seats is about it.

Maybe, but that would be true with any cheap couch (could be wrong, but I don't think they have anything quite that inexpensive). Belfort has a wide range to choose from - cheap to quite pricey. One of the things I like about them.

The furniture in the DMV is pretty crappy industrial stuff, and gets a lot of use from people using it all day.

I would not get my furniture from the DMV. Lots of illegals stink up that furniture and the chairs really aren't comfortable.

Bob's Furniture is pretty reasonable though.

As someone(s) already kindly pointed out, the DMV does not sell things like pizza and furniture.

According to always reliable academic source Wikipedia "In the United States a department of motor vehicles (DMV) is a state-level government agency that administers vehicle registration and driver licensing. Similar departments exist in Canada...."

Some people are new to the area and haven't figured out yet that using DMV as a "hip" way to refer to "the District, Maryland, and Virginia" only marks you as an ignorant, low-grade, wannabe outsider. Only trash in this area ever use DMV to mean anything other than the Department of Motor Vehicles. Be an asshole if you like, but it's certainly neither advised nor recommended.

Figure out what sort of furniture you like. Do some research to learn the names of some high quality producers of the type of furniture you like. Find local outlets that carry the furniture made by those producers. Go to a couple of those outlets and compare price and availability. Easy peasy.

I don't think they sell furniture at the Division of Motor Vehicles, but if they do, make sure you check the hours, they're only open for a few hours in the monrings on Saturdays and not at all on sundays.

Yeah. "Best" means something beyond cool-looking for cheap. As noted above, figure out what you like, then where you can shop for that. But anything that's actually "good" and apt to last for a while is going to carry a price.

The best place is in the offices, behind the service counter. They only have those cheap interlocking-bench seats in the front for you to sit on. It's more like office furniture than "home furniture", but whatever you can get away with, I guess.

“This End Up” is a NC company that used to have many stores in DC area. I bought a lot of their furniture in the 70s and 80s. It still looks great and is totally indestructible. In 2000, the company had financial problems and closed all of its stores. In 2001, the company re-opened under new ownership and now sells only online. But it’s still the same great furniture. Simple design, very affordable. Furniture for every room. Give it a look.

You redneck losers can't neither afford nor appreciate them, but the places for decent quality furniture include Roche Bobois, Ligne Roset, Theodores, and Room and Board. For you, realistically, the choices are the lowlife havens of Marlo, Bobs, Ashley, and 18-wheelers parked by the side of the road with sofa sets and posters of Elvis with poker-playing dogs.

Go to Goodwill or the Salvation Army. So many boomers, like me, are downsizing that these places are overflowing with quality stuff. Sofas, chairs, tables, carpets, you name it, and in good condition. Of course, inspect it carefully, but there are deals to be had for good stuff.

Yes, fellow FFX Undergroundians, the stores mentioned by the furniture doctor are only for those who put on their pants two legs at a time.

Good day. I have wanted to buy hanging papasan chair for a long time. Unlike other hanging chairs, the papasan chair is comfortable and stable. The chairs have a weather-resistant fabric that can be washed. I don't want to order chairs online because it is risky. Perhaps you know a shop that specializes in these chairs.

The best place to buy furniture in the living room, for example, will be Ikea, and if you need furniture in the bathroom, then read my comment further and I will tell you my story of how I arranged my bathroom in the best style. I always get compliments and especially often hear requests to share the place where I bought wooden vanity units. I bought almost the entire interior from https://www.bathroomsandmorestore.co.uk/vanity-units/. I hope that I was useful to you and you can buy something that will please you every day!!
