Come out and support NOVA firearms at the McLean Citizens Association Board Meeting tomorrow night!
Posted by: Support our Rights ()
Date: October 06, 2015 10:47PM

Tomorrow, Wednesday, October 7 at 7:30pm, the McLean Citizens Association Board meeting (MCA), which is open to the public and held in a McLean community center, has an agenda item on how to “deal with” the new location of NOVA Firearms in McLean. There are apparently nine parents who fear for the safety of their children, who go to school near the gun store.

NOVA Firearms is being targeted by current Fairfax County Board of Supervisor member John Foust. Mr Foust has said publicly that he wants to shut down NOVA Firearms. (Foust has an opponent in the elections in November - Jennifer Chronis.) What Foust is doing with his threats is disgraceful and is an abuse of his powers.

The MCA is not a sanctioned government body, but they have a seat at the Board of Supervisors’ meeting and speak on behalf of the McLean community, so we need to get their attention by attending the meeting in numbers.

WE MUST MAKE SURE MCA HEARS FROM PEOPLE OTHER THAN THE GUN HATERS!!

Look for someone handing out Guns Save Lives stickers. The more people wearing them, the better.

We need to be respectful, but firm in our support for NOVA firearms, which was at its previous location less than a mile away for years without any kind of issue or opposition.

Meeting location:

McLean Community Center 1234 Ingleside Avenue McLean, VA
7:30PM

Here’s the announcement that MCA put out:

At Wednesday’s meeting of the McLean Citizens Association, “NOVA Firearms” will be an agenda item. Please talk with your neighbors and networks prior to our meeting. Come prepared to discuss our way forward.

Last week, nine parents came to the Planning & Zoning committee meeting. They asked for our help. Their most valuable and precious responsibilities – their children – walk into Franklin Sherman Elementary School every day – a school that is now adjacent to a gun shop. Fears for one’s children are understandable and compelling. As the “Voice of McLean” we owe these parents a respectful answer.

The immediate issue is not about having a gun store in McLean. NOVA Firearms previously operated out of a building on Elm Street; no one objected. Our challenge arose when NOVA Firearms moved next to this elementary school.

Initial reports indicate that this move by NOVA Firearms is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Wednesday’s discussion should determine MCA’s next steps. My sense is that we are far from the point of endorsing any particular resolution. We are best served by first outlining a path forward.

MCA has a long history with Franklin Sherman School. Our predecessor, “The School & Civic League of McLean” formed 101 years ago – to promote Franklin Sherman. The school and MCA were created simultaneously. We have a century-old relationship with Franklin Sherman School.

Our community must find ways to balance the legitimate equities of this business with the understandable fears of parents.

For anyone going, how about asking some obvious questions...

-How many children (or adults) have been shot in Virginia schools by people with firearms purchased from gunshops that were only 100/200/300 feet from a school.

My guess is that the answer is zero. Now, a practiced politician will not answer the question and attempt to turn it against the questioner in support of the politician's issue. So, don't be afraid to call out the politician for not answering and you can then accuse him/her of acting in the absence of information.

I would also ask:

Is the business in violation of the law?

What dangers have been realized by the gun shop's proximity to the school?

What data/studies illustrate the dangers posed by a gunshop to a school?

Has anyon exmined the dangers posed to the children by the chemicals located at the nearby gas stations and the dry cleaner?

Is there any truth to the rumor that this is more about the owner's religious and/political affiliations?

If there is no ulterior motive, why did this protest start only AFTER the owner had invested money into the business? Wasn't this deliberately done as a political dirty trick becuase he did not donate to the a certain campaign?

Then, ask one of the elected officials if he/she supports the Second Amendment and when the answer is "no," point out that ther person is violating his/her aoth of office which typically contians the statement, " I will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

If that gets you nowhere, just start farting.

If he's wrong, please cite an example where a gun store being next to a school caused a school shooting?

And this is the reason that schools never have swimming pools and parking lots.

Chilluns drown and get run over by cars. Therefore. No pools. No cars.

Come to think of it, since some parents abuse and even murder children, lets keep the parents out of schools as well.

Really? A person who is going into a school (a gun free zone) to shoot up is going to choose a school that is close to a gun shop?

I think I'd like to have my child at a school near a gun shop...

The Chamber of Commerce should crush Foust like a bug. Another Democrat grandstanding for personal promotion. Try balancing the budget Mr. Foust instead of harassing a legitimate business that pays taxes unlike the big corporations you and your cronies lure to Fairfax and give huge tax incentives to.

And if they can survive this, it may very well be the only place I buy from ever again.

Foust and Janie Strauss are like sharks in the ocean. They smell blood and come running.

They have NO interest in this issue for anything other than political reasons and attempts at political gain.

Rather than understanding this store is not likely an immediate threat to the school or kids and work with the community they have already made up their minds.

What a sad, sad situation and it seem that this Foust guy will likely cause the business owner and landlord undue grief and expense.

While all three of these are schools, none are located anywhere near a gun store. So again, name one school shooting related to the location of the nearby gun store.

And the only reason anybody gives a shit about these shootings is because almost all the victims were white.

Located in the general area of this school are several gas stations, many restaurants and even a grocery store or two.

These businesses, into which unsupervised elementary school students may FREELY enter and patronize, sell alcohol, tobacco, and pornography, all three of which are FAR more dangerous and damaging to young students than a firearm purchased by an adult who must undergo a Federally mandated background check to ensure that they are a law-abiding citizen.

The CDC tells us that each year, TWICE as many people die from the abuse and misuse of alcohol compared to firearms of all kinds, and there is no end to the damage done to young bodies and minds by the abuse of tobacco and pornography.

There are MANY, FAR more dangerous products being sold near this school than firearms. If these parents and politicians were truly concerned for the health and safety of these students, they would spend far more effort to stop the sales of alcohol, tobacco, and pornography in the close proximity of this school. Each of these products are FAR more dangerous than legally purchased firearms.

Seems quite clear that ALMOST all of the current mass shootings, either at schools, movie theaters, shopping malls or where ever, the common denominator is the shooter(s) has/have MENTAL problems and there was nothing that kept these people from legally procuring guns or anything else that could be used as a weapon.

All of these perpetrators, were young men that had families that clearly should have known there were problems. Anti social and reclusive behavior, but in most cases these families were in denial and chose to do nothing about tying to get help for these young men.

You could take all the guns away and these same same people would still do something similar by building build bombs, incendiary devices or some other weapon that they could have build from parts and pieces from the local home center, hardware, auto parts or electronics store.

The sky is falling because there is a gun store in a commercial area that share a border with a school. I guess bullets will be flying everywhere because someone goes in to look at a potential new purchase. Or someone will buy a gun and immediately walk out of the store and around the corner to the school. These situations are very unrealistic and not likely to occur.

Most of the mass shootings are somewhat premeditated and there is a slow progression to when it actually happens.

I think some of the politicians should also be committed along with the psychos that are mass murderers.

This may be getting a little off-topic, but let me say this: family members of people who have mental issues have their hands tied. No one can make someone get help. If the mentally ill are not breaking the law, they can stay mentally ill till the cows come home if they want. What is someone else going to do? Even if they bring help to the door, if the person with the mental issue does not want the help, you can’t force it down their throat. Or stuff it in their head. In order to be forced to get help, they have to break the law and get the courts involved. Then a court order can be entered and a person can be forced into a program. But still....

UM, in case you do not live or travel this area, "explosives" are both sold and stored in LARGE quantities next to this school. Over 50,000 gallons of gasoline are in the ground within 500 feet or less of the property line.

Additionally these automotive repair facilities have other explosive and flammable products they sell and use on a daily basis.

I believe even one facility claims to offer auto paint repairs.

So lets face it, is the problem really the gun store, gas station and service facility location or is the school in the wrong location??

2 miles from this school, Fairfax has had 10+ acres since 1950 in the middle of a residential neighborhood slated for an elementary school that was never built.

Yes, FCPS used to own 10+ acres inside the beltway for over 50 years for a school that was never built. The properly was transferred to the Fairfax County Board Of Supervisors a few years ago to allow for more possible options for development.

So again, what is in the wrong location??

I'm sure if one digs deep enough there are some zoning, building or business violations with that gun shop.

Looks like an old building is all the electrical wiring up to code?

Plumbing up to code?

All improvements had the correct permits?

Are there enough parking spaces for the business to operate?

Are the correct business and firearm licenses in place?

LOL, good point. Does the business meet all handicapped regulations?

Looks like a great place for the ATF to run some license plate checks.

I wonder how many of the gun purchasers are turning those around and selling those in DC to gangs?

If they took the building as is and didnt make any major improvements, ADA or code updates aren't required. If they overhauled the interior, then code compliance changes would have to be made. Of course, if the inspector/county admin was just lazy and rubberstamped all the permits, that's on the county.

No one is being an asshole. I just think some people view this as a well off soccer mom bullying a legally owned and licensed small business.

Once again, show us anywhere that a schools proximity to a gun store increases risk to the children there? 1.5 million firearms transactions a month, with background checks, happen with little to nearly zero problems in and around the gun store. ONE POINT FIVE MILLION A MONTH incident free sales.

What you are doing to the store id akin to not wanting a mosque next to the school because you heard somewhere that mosques are where recruiting and indoctrination for domestic terrorism begins.

This is gonna be quite the trek for some of you guys. Dumfries and the Shenandoah Valley are a long way aways. Hope your pickup trucks don't break down. But if they do, you can rest easy knowing you have guns to protect yourself from varmints and black people.

That's funny. Your semen demons are afraid of peanuts, football, and they don't know what gender they are. I thought I hated kids, but it's the parents I can't stand

Wednesday’s meeting of the McLean Citizens Association regarding NOVA Firearms

Last night VCDL flooded the meeting of the McLean Citizens Association (MCA) board meeting, where the MCA was going to decide what to do, if anything, about NOVA Firearms moving their store near a k-12 school. A few parents, who clearly didn’t know anything at all about guns, were actually concerned about the gun store being near the school.

(If those parents would simply take about 20 minutes to go visit the gun store, they would find their fears are totally unfounded.)

Members wearing VCDL “Guns Save Lives” stickers vastly outnumbered the other side, who were sporting some small black-on-white stickers.

At the beginning of the meeting the board chairman told the attendees that the board was not taking any public input on the NOVA Firearms matter. He said the board would be discussing it that evening, which they did as the last item on their agenda.

AND THE ANTIS WERE THEIR USUAL SELF-OBSESSED, RUDE, CHILDISH SELVES.

The chairman had asked everyone to please be quiet as the board held its meeting.

While gun owners were respectfully silent, one of the antis yelled at the top of his lungs from the back of the room (paraphrasing): “This guy (pointing to someone in front of him) has TWO GUNS!!! Do you allow GUNS at your meetings!?! Officer - are GUNS LEGAL here?!!”

The room broke out in laughter! If I hadn’t been so polite and not wanting to take part in interrupting their meeting, I had wanted to say, “Will everyone who is carrying a gun please raise their hand?”

The police officer at the front of the room, who is there for all the MCA meetings, said it was perfectly legal. One of the board members applauded that.

The meeting continued until another self-important anti interrupted the meeting, first demanding in a loud voice that she be told details about a committee being created and then demanding that one of the board members who was speaking stand up and face the attendees so she could hear him! Excuse me, but this is the MCA’s board meeting, they don’t have to change how they run their meeting to accommodate you, madam! Sit down and shut up. I hope she tries that at a committee meeting at the General Assembly. I’ll be sure to have some popcorn ready as I sit back and enjoy the show.

All the antis rude shenanigans always make me all the more proud of the decorum of VCDL members.

THE NEXT STEP

Reading faces, it was pretty clear to many of us that the MCA really didn’t want anything to do with the whole affair. I believe that they do want to placate the fearsome parents, so they created an ad-hoc committee to look into what, if anything, the MCA should do. The committee will report back next month.

We’ll be watching and waiting.

Thanks to all of you who came out, create that sea of orange and standing up for freedom!

Photos of the meeting are now posted on the home page of the VCDL website.

Many of the pro gun people were in suits and ties and not interrupting the meeting like their anti gun counterparts

During the meeting, did anybody ever give a reason how the location endangered the kids in the school? Vicky, Scott and the rest of the anti Americans on this forum cannot provide one.

Most if the Mclean people either don't care or they just rather sit on their asses and sign petitions.
