If you voted for transgender restrooms I will work tirelessly for your defeat.
I am not alone.

Yes, because -

Given all the issues FCPS is faced with, this is the one that THEY worked tireless for.

Really.

Many issues, all related to foolish spending and scrambled priorities:

1) Transgender bathrooms/locker rooms.

2) Boosterthon, exploiter of children and waster of instructional hours (to say nothing of violator of policy that says "no fundraising during school hours").

3) Hiring consultants without proper qualifications, eg Eric Jensen and Flip Flippen at thousands of dollars a day plus travel.

4) Excessive travel to California, Florida, South Korea, Denmark.

5) Karen Garza's $2,000 month housing allowance.

6) Office of Communications, which appears to do nothing.

7) Top-heavy bureaucracy.

8) Instructional coaches.

9) Sweetheart deals with textbook publishers.

10) Turf fields before science books.

11) Frenzy to get Board of Supervisors to raise taxes, or to get taxation authority for the schools.

12) Change in start times.

These are among the reasons why EVERY SINGLE INCUMBENT on the school board needs to be removed.

Did you watch the SB meeting the night they voted? While it may have been necessary to pass the resolution/whatever they called it, it was not necessary to do it in the way they did. They acted like everyone who opposed it was a bigot. Schultz just asked for them to wait until they had a policy in place--but no, they had to pass it right away.

There were no answers as to how it would be implemented, how it would affect the students, or how much it would cost.

They acted like the parents who opposed it were bigots or dumb. That is not the way to treat the taxpayers.

Oh please - THIS is the issue that riles you? A kid who wants to use a different bathroom? Give me a F---- break. Why don't you focus on the fact that enormous amounts of our resources go to an ESOL population resulting in HUGE classes for those parts of the county who pay the bulk of the property taxes that fund our schools? Good Lord, you have some seriously messed up priorities. This county needs better balance in it's distribution of resources. If Caitlin needs to use a new bathroom, bug deal.

The transgender plan for bathrooms consists of having AT LEAST four bathrooms where there are now two:

1) Boys
2) Girls
3) Boys who identify as girls
4) Girls who identify as boys

There's also a certain amount of noise being made by the "non binary" contingent who want yet a 5th bathroom for individuals not identifying with either gender.

It is much, much more than someone wanting to use a different EXISTING bathroom, it is that now they want SPECIAL bathrooms depending on their self definition.

Oh yes it is not just bathrooms but locker rooms as well.

You could build a space station with what all of this would cost.

ESL etc. are issues but that's not what people like McElveen focus on. He even referred to this as the "god damned rights" of the transgender students, who make up less than 1% of the student body. Not only do we "need" these bathrooms but we also "need" a transgender consultant-probably Caitlyn Jenner.

Speaking of consultants, why do we continue to pay Eric Jensen $9,000 A DAY on a sole source contract? He is a former English teacher with a couple of online degrees. Yet he's an expert in poverty, neuroscience, and music. The teachers who are REQUIRED to attend his "training" say it is a waste of time and money. He is just one of many ("Flip" Flippen) is another. Once again, this is not an issue the school board addresses-except that it wants to give Garza every penny she asks for and then some.

Sorry, the existing school board just has to go.

Politicians like Brian should be focusing on the illegal immigration problem but instead he lets them push him around like schoolyard bullies. Why isn't Brian leading the charge on this one? No, I'm not going to forget the assholes who voted for transgender restrooms. Get over it.

Immigration is a federal issue. It cannot be handled at the county level.

Denying education to immigrants (legal or not) would probably result in the suspension of federal money for the schools.

The school board cannot control how many immigrant students there are, but they can enforce fundraising policies, which would keep schools from wasting money on Boosterthon and they could put a stop to hiring Eric Jensen and Flip Flippen at thousands of dollars a day-especially since the teachers Jensen and Flippen are retained to train think they are worthless.

Just because we have such idiots in Federal office doesn't mean local politicians have to roll over and play dead.

They aren't rolling over and playing dead. They are wasting money. Once again, if you don't like the current school board, vote them out in November.

Yes. Me too. But what got me started was the change in school hours against logic, common sense and their own paid study. Not to mention, the parents and staff. Who benefits? Highly suspicious and it pisses me off!

I think it’s time to begin considering cutting-off the federal government from our community schools.

Even if he did pull it out of his ass, what else would it be. It’s not hard to “guess” what will be required and what will be required next. Unless you an idiot.

Contractors want $5-10K to redo a bathroom.

Maybe triple for all new plumbing? $15-30K for the 2-3 new bathrooms. That's up to $45-90K, just for the bathrooms.

Changing rooms with showers, same thing, but bigger (for more than one person). $200K.

So we're talking $300K per school, roughly. How many schools? Assume just 20, that's $6,000,000 and that may be low.

I don't know what a space station costs, probably in the billions. But six million is a chunk of the so-called shortfall.

These numbers go out the window if more construction is needed. I'm guessing it would be, or you'd be tearing out classrooms for these new bathrooms and expanding the gym or whatever.

Millions of dollars for something used by less than 1% of the population. If you start dipping down into the middle schools, heaven forbid the elementary schools, and this becomes an epic number.

Children should not be allowed to choose their own gender.

If we have no problem telling them they are not allowed to drive and not allowed to drink, why can’t we tell them they are not allowed to change their sex until they are an adult and can pay for it themselves. Also, what will transgender counselors teach our children. How to have sex. This is ridiculous. If the schools would stay out of the sex education business and spend our money on academics we’d be a healthier nation - mentally and physically. Maybe it’s time to drop the federal money so we are free to educate our own children.

For the few of you who are afraid of their feelings being hurt, why can’t a simple “no discrimination” policy cover everything. Lawyers like to get specific but the more specific you get, the more narrow. A “no discrimination” policy should be simple and broad.

More bullshit. The board voted to include gender identity in nondiscrimination policies. That's it. This is not a goddamned toilet issue - except to you toilet obsessed nutjobs. No one knows yet what kind of policy will be adopted for this trivial issue. My guess would be that one bathroom in a school will be made gender neutral. But I don't know - and neither do you.

Alternatively, a transgendered person could use the restroom of the sex he/she identifies with, in which case nothing needs to be built. But that just fuels your paranoia. Do you really think that teenage boys are going to pretend to be transgendered so they can assault your snowflakes in the bathroom? That is ridiculous.

I don't know any transgendered people (and no, I'm not gay), but I bet they really don't much give a damn what bathroom they use as long as they are treated as normal human beings who have as much of a right not to be bullied as your kids do.

You really do not understand. You may not care--but some people do. And, they passed it without a policy--so no one knows what the rules are. Poor judgment on the part of the SB. They could have waited to vote after a policy was developed. We already have non-discrimination and anti-bullying. And, by the way, some girls do object to having transgender in their locker rooms.

Yes, the transgendered should be treated like human beings - mentally ill humans who need help, not special bathrooms.

First, the issue didn't need to be introduced in the first place. This was a decision that should have been handled by each principle as necessary, because not every school has a transgendered student who needs an accommodation. As for the non-discrimination policy, unless there's evidence that there has actually been discrimination, the issue could have been dealt with after all the impacts were examined, like the bathroom issue. The Board wanted this to be a zoo, and they got what they wanted.

The way we handled it was ridiculous and played directly into the Democrats plans. We never get those kinds of crowds for any kind of issue that impacts every student, like the budget or discipline issues. We get it for transgendered bathrooms? Really? I even got a robo-call on this issue that was not local - that's how people were treating this. It was nuts.

That's my biggest issue, and it is reflected in OP's comment. Class size, discipline, the Board's unwillingness to stand up to the administration and cut the budget, the Board's unwillingesss to stop the administration from blatant politicking during Back to School nights - none of those things could ever draw a crowd like this issue did. Why?

We all know why.

Just once I'd like to see my party get riled up over things that matter to more than a handful of people.

I'm not in Congress. Immigration is a federal issue. Nobody at the local level should be wasting their time on it, because at best they can only nibble about the edges.

You are missing it Brian. I don’t know how, but you’re missing it. Rather than assume the public’s response is misplaced, try considering how you aren’t getting it.

Inmates must shower and use the bathrooms according to their God given gender. Suck it up, Buttercup. Go where you're suppose to go. The others don't want you there.

Has anyone thought about over night school trips and hotel assignments? Two gay boys, a transgender girl and YOUR child in a hotel room over night on a band trip? Maybe Ryan could chaperone that one.

The vast majority of the public doesn't care. They are living their lives and not at all concerned that the School Board created an election year controversy for no reason and some of us swallowed their bait.

You're a liberal wuss. Why aren't you voicing concerns to the Federal level?

With the exception of Schultz, each and every one of the current School Board Members are egotistical, boorish liberal politicians hell bent on their social engineering and excessive spending. If reelected they will not be happy until they have independent taxing and spending authority that will be accountable to nobody.

Yup. You can arrange for a private room, or a room with a child you feel comfortable with, but you will probably pay more. That's discrimination. Why should you have to pay extra so that your child and you can feel safe?

So now the school board has to deal with all the immigrants that have migrated here to Fairfax for the past several years.
Budget cuts - good.
Thin it out.....who cares.
Especially the ESL courses.

Re your BD article making fun of Trump's wall. Silliness at best.
If you deny them employment, the vast majority will deport themselves imho
but I didn't see a word about that. BTW, in far too many cases, "reform"
is just another word for amnesty.

Sounds like Brian has called out you fanatics who get ridiculously exercised over a relative non-issue - thereby exposing yourselves as the hate-filled bigots you really are and deflecting attention from serious issues. I don't know if that was the intent of the Democrats on the school board (sounds kind of paranoid to me), but if it was it sure worked.

So what's your response? Conjecturing about ridiculous scenarios that are never going to happen ("Two gay boys, a transgender girl and YOUR child in a hotel room over night on a band trip") and that even if they did could be handled by sane people in a calm, respectful manner. Way to go, fellas.

Who the fuck are you to decide what issues someone else should care about. No wonder you get your sorry-ass clock cleaned every time you run. When you aren't attacking Ben Carson you're attacking the voters of Fairfax. Geez, what a buffoon.

Yep, and it's right out of Obama's playbook. You make fun of people who want to seal the border. You say birthright citizenship is not up for discussion. You dismiss any notion that illegals should have their asses sent right back from whence they came or any disparaging remarks ever be utter against those who break the law to come here because 'they're just people'. You make fun of anyone who calls a RINO a RINO. Know why? Because you're a RINO. Climb back under your rock Schoeneman and stop trying to gain any office that requires a vote. You'll always have a democrat running against you and an informed republican base will never vote for you. If we want a democrat in office, we'll vote for you opponent.

I'm a voter. And I think it's pathetic that this is the issue that gets someone so spun up that they'll work "tirelessly" but the actual issues that impact everybody and should make people work tirelessly to defeat elected officials who don't get it are ignored.

I'm not attacking voters in Fairfax. I'm telling OP he should care more about things that actually matter.

Whether I ever get elected at some point matters less to me than being a voice of reason among a sea of insanity. That's something I'm never going to stop doing.

I make fun of Trump for wanting to do something that won't solve the problem or seal the border. I correctly explain the history of birthright citizenship and its role in American jurisprudence. I have always advocated against illegal immigration, but I also recognize that those folks are people and they deserve respect as fellow human beings. I make fun of people who call folks like me RINOs because the only people who do that tend to have done nothing in the Republican Party at all beyond, perhaps, casting a vote whereas the ones they're attacking have far longer resumes when it comes to political activism.

I look forward to my next race against an actual Democrat, where I can show voters that there's an alternative to the Democrats who cares and isn't a complete jerk. There are a lot of folks out there who want that option, and we don't always give it to them, unfortunately. If you would prefer to elect a Democrat, that's your prerogative.

You people just don't get it - and you never will. I disagree with Brian on most issues, but he represents a voice of reason in a sea of insanity (that would be you). You should be thrilled if he runs - and if he wins it will be because he is able to convince everyday voters that there is still a shred of decency in the Republican Party.

Most people do not support your extreme views - at least not in Northern Virginia and in the country as a whole. You will continue to lose until you understand and accept that.

Nothing will change other than filling Dan Storck's place as he moves up the ladder.

Where's your poll that shows the majority of Americans want guys running around girls bathrooms and locker rooms in high school? You fools think everything is settled. Just like you said abortion was settled. Guess what? It still ain't settled, 40 years later. Just like homo marriage. Ginned up polls that idiots like Schoeneman buy into hook, line and sinker. And 40 years from now, this country will still be fighting about that too. Schoeneman is a moron who can't win election for anything (and he's tried sooooo many times). Not only are his views out of step with over half of the base of the party who's ticket he runs on, but his forehead is just fucking big. I'm not lying. Massive forehead.

Two times. And no, 40 years from now, no one is going to be talking about marriage being controversial, any more than we consider integrated schools controversial.

But yes, my forehead is big. So you got one out of like six right.

You can take gay marriage, tranny restrooms, and illegal aliens and stick'em
where the sun doesn't shine. You can piss, moan, and whine all you want but
I'll remember in November.
