Whatever happened to old DC radio guys

Who was the fat morning guy on 105.9 back in the late 80's? He was so lame but I listened to him anyway because they played the best music. I heard his news guy was a dick.

Also trying to remember the shock jock guy from back in the mid-80s, real angry conservative type, can't remember if he was on 98.7 or 106.7 before it went rock/talk.

Pretty funny hearing the old 99.1 jocks popping up at classic rock djs, Cerphe and such, they used to play the hippest tunes and now they have to play what was called dinosaur rock 25 years ago. They had that one chick at nights who was really good until they moved her to mornings, she sounded hot but I'm guessing she wasn't.

Best local jock was the Kirkster.

I just remember that they were old and used to play marches every morning when I wasn't trying to hear a march, Moms used to turn that shit up.

Willard Scott was Ronald McDonald, then Cousin Cupcake, then The Today Show. Ed Walker still plays radio shows from the 50's on NPR on Sundays.

Also Trumbull & Core. You can still hear Chris Core on WTOP. Read that Bill Trumbull died a few years back.

I guess no one is going to mention Mike O'Meara and Robb Spewak here, so I will do the honors (or take the bullet, if you will).

The premise being that any publicity is good publicity.

Don Geronimo and Mike O'Meara started on WAVA 105.9...and then moved to 106.6, I think.

Jack Diamond was on 107.1.

Howard Stern on DC101.1 in the early 80's, the replaced by the Greaseman.

He killed his career with the racial stuff, went way too far a couple times but that was predictable based on how many of his bits included the Harlem Globetrotters and that Happy to CU Again song.

Grease definitely had his moments of greatness though.

Only thing I remember from his show was him announcing that no one should call him on Saturday night because HBO was premiering The Fabulous Baker Boys and he did not want to be disturbed. I was disturbed by the thought of why any guy would want to watch that crap. Fortunately Stern was back by then so Harris and Grease were quickly swept away.

I remember Adam Smasher on DC 101 kinda lame not nearly as cool as Cerphe. My favorite was Allen Prell on Fairfax's own WEEL. Allen had a differant kind of razor wit about him. I really miss hearing him...

Remember when Howard Stern was on the local radio and pretended to call Air Florida and ask, "When does your next flight leave National Airport for the 14th Street Bridge"?

He was fired and ended up doing just fine on Channel 100 and 101 of Sirius XM Radio. Still a great show with great interviews.

I remember this show. It was definitely one of the better ones, family friendly and played classic rock :-)

I miss quality radio in DC.

Still a great show? Hardly, he has his moments, and the phony phone call guys are funny, but he has surrounded himself with suck ups who allow him to constantly talk about his cats. What guy wants to listen to interviews with the women of the view and Katie Couric and Anderson Cooper and Neil Patrick Harris? That is is whole show now, interviews with the most boring people in media. The only reason to subscribe is to hear the old days with John and Jackie.

Family friendly is why he didn't last more than a few years, he was on the best station for music but was too too lame.

That was back when DC101 went from playing hair metal to southern rock, both are fine in small doses but they went too narrow in their play list. 106.7 started playing classic rock but it was the same 6 songs all day. And 99.1 was still playing that weird alternative crap before Alice in Chains and Nirvana hit.

Wrong. He called up sir Florida and asked for a 1 way ticket to the 14th st. Bridge.

Old WHFS was awesome. It was basically a college radio station format. Then it shit the bed when the new owners wanted to compete with DC101 and brought over the Junkies. Greaseman got old. Same shit every day. Harris in the Moring was good early on, but got tiring. Didn't he start getting a short fuse too there towards the end? No real reason to listen to terrestrial radio anymore. Elliot sucks, the Junkies suck. Much more content on SiriusXM to listen too.

Wow! Just like college radio, that's awesome, nothing better than college radio, I could listen to that all day. As much as I can't stand listening to the Junkies they extended the life of that format by a couple years. Great festivals though, glory days of stadium shows, the last gasp of rock music

Good thing we've got the awesome Kane Show and all the cool stuff from WPGC/WKYS nowadays. Really entertaining and modern.

I used to listen to Harris in the Morning because I couldn't stand the aggressive juvenality of Don & Mike. But I think there was something like -one- ratings book where Harris beat D&M and he then pissed them off by taunting them.
There was a period on WAVA before it went talk and then Christian where Cerphe was PD (I think). Late 70s if memory serves. It played great music and a couple of comedy bits in the morning. Probably one of my favorite stations ever.
Early HFS was seminal - Weasel and the other dopers. But music you wouldn't even hear on radio *now.*
And Felix Grant at night on WMAL - great jazz program by a guy who *knew* what he was playing backwards and forwards.

There was lot of real air talent back in the day.

The Donnie Simpson show was very good but they cut him loose because he insisted on playing decent music on occasion.
