Police are searching for someone who has shot at buildings in Fairfax County and the town of Herndon. Northern Virginia Bureau Chief Julie Carey reports.

I'm guessing this is some idiot shooting into the air or some target practice.

The buildings have the right to shoot back and defend themselves.

That's why the founding fathers drafted the 2nd amendment, stupid. They felt very strongly that you should be able to defend yourself against lunatics like this. You may be too dumb to use a firearm, but it's your right should you choose to exercise it. Blahblah

OK, you see a lunatic with a gun, you shoot him. Some other person sees you shoot him and figures you are the bad guy and takes the law into their own hands and shoots you. Perhaps another bystander will see the two or three people dead, and you standing with your gun and feel he should to take care of the situation....

Actually not a bad plan. I encourage anyone with a gun to shoot someone with a gun. Second Amendment and all.

That won’t happen. It will be the one without a gun who gets shot.

A detailed investigation has led to the arrest of Matthew Charles Malacarne, believed to be responsible for a series of destruction cases where commercial buildings were struck by bullets. Detectives from Fairfax County and the Towns of Herndon and Leesburg have been jointly investigating similar cases in each jurisdiction. In each of the two Fairfax County incidents, the suspect discharged a gun, striking a building during the overnight hours. In one incident, there were employees inside the business.

On Monday, September 21, an employee of a business, located in the 2200 block of Corporate Drive in Herndon, reported to police that several pieces of equipment were damaged during the evening hours of Thursday, September 17. Detectives investigating the report determined the suspect intentionally damaged a security camera, a key lockbox, a satellite dish and shut down the building’s elevators, costing thousands of dollars in damages. Additional information was developed, enabling detectives to identify that suspect.

A felony Destruction of Property warrant was obtained for the destruction case on September 17, and detectives took the suspect, Matthew Charles Malacarne, 29, of 811 Locust Street in Herndon, into custody on Friday, September 25. A search warrant was also served at his residence that same day.

Evidence obtained during that search warrant led detectives to also charge Malacarne for the two destruction incidents where buildings were shot in Fairfax County. The first incident occurred on Monday, August 3, around 10 p.m. at a business in the 2200 block of Monroe Street. Employees were inside the building at the time the shots were fired. The second incident occurred between the hours of 10 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, and 8 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, at a business in the 2200 block of Corporate Drive.

Matthew Charles Malacarne was charged with one count of felony Destruction of Property and one count of Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling for the incident on Monday, August 3. He was additionally charged with one count of felony Destruction of Property for the incident on Tuesday, August 4.

Detectives in the Town of Herndon have pursued charges for the incidents in their jurisdiction. Malacarne is currently being held in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.

Obviously this guy was brainwashed by govt to do this. It's all part of Obama's clandestine gun take down. Once there are no more guns he will be able to personally rape you in the @$$ and invite all his friends from the middle east here to cut off your head.

Looks like they picked this guy up just in time before his fuse blew completely. Sounds like many of the disgruntled gun nut posters on FU.

Matthew Charles Malacarne

A Virginia man accused of shooting into Herndon office buildings worked for one of the companies he's accused of shooting at, court documents reveal.

The documents also claim the suspect, 29-year-old Matthew Charles Malacarne, was driving around with a virtual arsenal in his car. Malacarne was arrested late last month in the shootings.

From late July to September, windows at several office buildings were shattered by gunshots during overnight hours, alarming workers who discovered broken glass the next morning. There were seven incidents in all, spanning from Herndon to Leesburg.

Most of the targets were tech companies off the Dulles Toll Road, although two banks were also hit.

Search warrant documents describe Malacarne as a "low level" employee at ManTech. That company's Herndon office was hit twice. Malacarne is also suspected of damaging a rooftop satellite.

The documents reveal Malacarne had the weapons and ammunition to do far more damage than he's accused of.

Investigators said they seized a shotgun, two handguns, 22 boxes of ammunition and four magazines from Malacarne's Herndon home, according to the documents. They said they also found a silencer and something called the "Improvised Munitions Handbook."

Inside Malacarne's car, authorities say they found an assault rifle loaded with three full magazines, a rifle, a handgun, 10 boxes of ammunition and three more magazines.

The investigation shows, however, that most of the bullet holes in the buildings seem to come from a small-caliber weapon, not the assault rifle.

Malacarne was buying new weapons as recently as Sept. 5, the documents show.

Court documents say Malcarne was finally identified as the suspect after he drove into the ManTech parking garage Sept. 17 and struck the surveillance camera, causing it to to go blurry. He broke into a lock box and stole a key to the roof, the documents say.

Authorities believe he then cut the power to the elevator, and disconnected and damaged a satellite dish. Another security camera captured images of him leaving in a silver Audi. A few days later, the building engineer saw the same car leaving, with Malacarne behind the wheel, and made the connection.

Fairfax County Police say they can't comment on the new details because their investigation continues.

So far, a potential motive in the shootings is unknown. A detective wrote that he's "learned of no explanation for Malacarne's sinister behavior."
