Fuddruckers closing
Posted by: CNnbM ()

I just heard that the Fairfax Fuddruckers will be closing; to be demolished as part of adding lanes to I-66 there.

Any details?

one detail is your comment on adding lanes to i-66 is stupid and wrong. not just because i-66 isnt going to add any lanes near fairfax but because fudd ruckers is like half a miile away from 66

Duke Street...closed for quite some time now.

I'm hoping they finally put in a mattress store there. I've currently gotta' go 5 blocks to the mattress store now and that is just too fucking far, man.

Duke street has been closed for years, and the Annandale one closed about two years back. It's not surprising to see them all closing, people don't want to pay $12 for a burger. I did enjoy the food, but it was rather pricey and a weird layout in the sense that it had no drive through but also had no waiters, it was more of a self-serve but designed like a sit down restaurant. It's a weird niche that just isn't profitable so they're closing down one by one.

No, they are only closing the area ones. Like most other restaurant businesses, they dont want to deal with the uptight NoVa immigrants and cheapskate jews like yourself anymore so they are leaving the area.

Eventually all NoVa will have left are chinese buffets and McDonalds.

Tysons Fuddruckers has been closed for about 3 years or more as I recall.

Not sure why the Fairfax Fudd's has anything to do with I-66, it is not that close.

I think Fudd's has run its course and there are PLENTY more options and Fudd's did not adjust the business model.

Oh well, another one bites the dust.

I think the problem with Fudd these days is that 10 years ago, the concept of a gourmet burger was quite novel and the only other place that offered it was Five Guys. You choices were Five Guys, Fuddruckers and all of the shit fast food joints (McDonalds, Wendys, etc.).

Now, everybody and their brother has jumped onto the $8.00 burger bandwagon. Socialburger, Elevation Burger, Smashburger, The Counter, etc.

Its no longer novel and Fudd hasn't evolved.

The best thing about Five Guys is when you are done eating your burger and fries you will have enough oil to lube your car.

I just went for the arcade games! I could chow down on a burger and play some quarters afterwards!!

The burgers were decent, but above poster was right all the upscale burger joints put them out of business!

Too bad I have to wait for December for Dave and Busters to open in Springfield Town Center (Mall!) I just wish they would bring Tilt and Orange Julius back but I have given up on the idea- like Cheasapeake Bay Seafood House, it is gone forever *sheds tear*

Sorry to here. I've liked Fuddruckers. That place has been dead the last couple years, was there a week ago. I have been expecting them to close for some time.

The new road work is probably why they had not closed, the owner of the building probably let them hang on getting something is better then nothing when tearing the building down for expanded roads was coming.

Alot of them closed. The one in Fredericksburg was first - about 8 years ago. And then they've been closing left and right. Until the PW one was mentioned I thought the only one left was in VA Beach.

I guess no one wants to be Fuddrucked anymore.

i had been told by one of the many managers that they were losing the arcade room due to 123 being widened....maybe the lame franchisee (and they ARE really f-ing lame) decided to give up the ship for any of the above listed reasons....i remember going to the fudd in annapolis back in the early 80's...it was the shit back then, nothing else really like it....being the delinquents that we were, we made copies of a beer ticket they would give you to redeem your beers at a different counter and simply drank 6 free beers every visit all summer....good times....and i'm sorry everybody but i'm fairly confident it was me and my friends who put chesapeake bay seafood out of business....crushed those legs at $17....shit, my stomach still hurts

OK, I can see this. Now that you mention it, I was always nervous when my kids would go into the Arcade and the thing was right up against the road. I am surprise nobody ever put their car into the Arcade all the years it was so close to the road.

Will be interesting to see what happens if they actually widen 123 to Lee Highway/FFX Blvd. Just more congestion I guess, because I66 and I495 is just a parking lot these days!

I was at the Shell station across the street two years ago and an SUV came
within a foot of going through the glass of Fudds. Scared the crap out of
me just watching and some tourists on the sidewalk were only missed by
about four feet. Dangerous location, especially with idiots pulling
out of Orchard trying to make a left hand turn.

That's actually not true that they are profitable. A new company acquired them in 2010 and it makes more sense to open new ones they deal with old leases and run down buildings. Between Franchise and corporate owned they have almost 200 units. Not to mention they are in other countries. You might not want to pay $12 for a burger but there meat is NEVER frozen. It's always fresh and comes in 2 times a week to ensure it's quality. The buns are homemade from scratch.

According to their Facebook page, the Fairfax Fudd's will reopen after road construction is complete. I remember when that location and the one in Annandale Fudd's were Three Chefs restaurants. They had great pancakes and fried chicken.

Yeah, it was a women's clothing store around 1976.
I remember there was a rickety-ass playground in the space between it and the auto lot. I would get splinters while mom shopped.
It was also a hair salon for awhile.

Fudds is SO much better than 5 guys. Five Guys is barely a step above Wendy's. Five Guys fries suck. You can't get crispy fries using Peanut oil. Peanut oil is a fad.

I read somewhere that the Fudds in Fairfax will re-open December 16th. Then again I also read at one time it was supposed to to re-open on August 1st.

I did try calling Luby's main office and I never talked to such an ignorant bunch of people in all my life. They had NO idea what they were doing or who was stroking who over there. I could picture the receptionist doing her nails and watching TV on a smart phone.

Now, that all said, the good news is there is an even better burger available if you are in the Western Fairfax (Chantilly/Greenbriar) area.

It's called "The Burger Shack".

I think part of their seasoning is Cocaine. You can't stop eating the stuff it's so delicious!

There's no way Fudds can open before dec 2017 or Jan 2018.
The city put out message that 123 going north will be detoured at 50 and forced to go left or right only. Closing 123 northbound at 50 to Eaton Pl. Work starts in Jan and runs 12 months.
