Mrs. King was the recipient of the 2008 Outstanding First-Year Principal Award from Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia, Nardos King continued to make a significant impact within her community as the Principal of Mount Vernon High School until September 2015. A graduate of Virginia State University, George Washington University, and George Mason University, Ms. King constantly seeks to improve her abilities through continuing education. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in Education Leadership and Policy at the Northern Virginia Center of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Nardos King began her career in education with Lawton Public Schools in Lawton, Oklahoma, where she worked in several positions, including Instructional Assistant, Finance Secretary, and Media Specialist Assistant. After several months at Hunt Valley Elementary School as Principal's Secretary and Finance Secretary, Nardos King began her first position at Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1996. As Finance Officer, Ms. King supervised the disbursement of all school funds and assisted the principal in creating the school budget. While working toward her M.A. in Special Education from George Washington University, Nardos King maintained an internship at Mount Vernon and taught basic skills and English classes, while also supervising all SGA activities such as dances, fundraising events, and meetings of the Student Advisory Council.
Over the course of 10 years, Nardos King progressed through several other positions at Mount Vernon High School, leaving a lasting impression as an effective and well-organized educational leader. In 2006, she became the Principal of Mount Vernon, and she has since worked hard for the school to raise test scores, motivate students, and implement creative new programs. One of the ideas she has put into action is Major Time, a period for students to make time for reading, obtain extra assistance for classes, and develop their relationships with adults.
