Firearms Safety Course for Teens

I guess this cannot help but be a troll post but here goes. I have a 12 yr old and 14 yr old and would like them to take a firearms safety course. Firearms are part of the world we live in and better to be knowledgeable on the topic.

When I was 14 I shot in an NRA program down at the police station in my neighborhood. It was hard work to shoot target well. No wild west crap. I rode my bike to the police station, put on a hot shooting jacket and practiced every Monday evening. I would equate it to piano lessons to be honest.

We have no guns in the house, I dont hunt, I dont really want to purchase a firearm as I have no use for one and I dont really feel like getting in the car to go shoot at a range for my personal enjoyment.

So any suggestions in Fairfax. I do not support the NRA but would bet their range and instruction is decent. I guess I would go there but the kids would get an ear-full about what a douche LaPierre is. Anyone have any experiences with safety kids for teens?

The only people calling Wayne LaPierre a douche would be your liberal friends who believe only cops should have guns.

Liberal friends are in denial of SCOTUS rulings. :)

Call the HQ office. I'm sure that they can point you to programs around here. The shooting sports and safety programs are basically completely separate from the political side if that makes you feel any better.

Or there are some other groups around here. Virginia Shooting Sports Association, Izaak Walton league, etc., that you might try.

Those are generally pretty good but they're more hunting regs and safety than firearms training.

There is a Firearms Safety Course that is taught by NRA Certified Instructors. There is no ammo in the class and you do not shoot firearms. It basically shows the different types, how they function and how to safely handle and unload them. For kids they are taught to never handle or unload. Stop and get an adult. Just google search NRA classes and search on their website for it. Independent instructors list their classes on that site.

It's kind of stupid to send a kid to a course so some guy can tell him "Never handle or unload. Stop and get an adult." What kind of mongoloid new wave parent can't get it together to tell the kid that himself?
