American Flag Burning In Reston

Police received the report on Tuesday, and the case is being investigated as a destruction of property case with a chance of a bias crime. A Reston resident contacted Fairfax County Police earlier this week after an unknown person burned an American flag that sat in front of his residence.

It better not be. I saw some of my buddies die face down in the muck fighting for basic freedoms like a persons right to burn a flag. Anyone who wants to ban flag burning is an anti-American POS.

They never specified the flag.

DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY (BIAS CRIME), 1600 block of Wainwright Drive, 08/25/15. A resident reported that an unknown person burned the flag and pole that was in front of his residence.

But it's no stretch of the imagination that some America-hating immigrant or child thereof was being oppressed by the flag of the country they're in, so they burned it. Ya know, for social justice.

I'm from a military family and was always told growing up that if an American Flag is damaged beyond repair it is supposed to be burned in a specific way (with "dignity") rather than thrown away. That may have changed over the years.

Generally, burning property that doesn't belong to you would be considered a crime. For example, if someone set your car on fire, they would be arrested. You're not allowed to set a flag on fire just because it's a flag.

The press release clearly states the flag state in front of the guys residence.

It IS a crime to burn the flag in this case because the flag belongs to somebody. The owner is not the person who burned it. The property owner had their property destroyed.

If you want to burn a flag that is yours to protect something then go for it. Not a crime.
