WTF is wrong with an NRA bumpersticker on an FCPS employees car? Im no huge fan of the NRA but do know first hand their Fairfax HQ has the most bad ass firearms museum I have ever seen. The best CCW course in the country is given there its where I took mine back in 96. My CCW instructor was a freshly retired career Marine that had recently passed the bar and become a lawyer.

The course was a couple of days. First day was this no BS Marine and legal professional laying down the MF law in your face the huge responsibility that comes with carrying a legally concealed firearm. Being a gun newbie at the time I chose as my first handgun a S&W model 640 .357 Magnum, real sweet piece. Snub nose, thinner 5 round cylinder with the hammer built inside the gun. The instructor called me an idiot to my face for choosing this make and model for my very first handgun.

2nd day was all day spent on the NRA HQ's fantastic firing range. The staff that ran the range where the most professional firearms instructors Ive ever seen. Being young and naive I chose the hottest hollow point .357 Magnum ammo I could find. First the instructors went over basic gun safety hands on with us then firing stances, how to properly hold your gun etc.

Then we got to start shooting downrange. Im a pretty good sized guy and at the time strong as an ox. The reason the course instructor called me an idiot for choosing a snub nose .357 Magnum while also noticing my super hot full house Magnum loads became clear as day the second I fired off the first shot.

The sound of the gun blast was deafening, the fireball that came out the end of the short .357 Magnum barrell was so huge I thought it was going to blow back and engulf me in flames for a second. It recoiled so hard it kicked up into my forehead. Very humbling experience. Sold the Magnum years ago recently picked up a far wiser choice in the excellent S&W 9mm Shield.

My point to the OP is GOOD theres an employee on the grounds that likely knows how to actually shoot his gun. Wouldnt bother me at all if this NRA "terrorist" secretly packs a piece on the job in case of a "Columbine" or ISIS situation....there absoloutely are kooks in the NRA but they are in the minority.

in todays age of Sandy Hook and pop up ISIS attacks all schools should have an armed officer on the grounds during the school day. MtVernon HS has its own FCPD satellite office with armed officers. But then again its Mt Vernon HS so it just makes sense for the FCPD to be there all the time.

Agree with everything you said, although I'm somewhat skeptical that every since HS in the county has a teacher who is carrying on the job. People who think teachers in FCPS are anti-gun are woefully misinformed, though. I used to teach in FCPS and have a CCW and can tell you I was definitely NOT an anomaly. I never brought a firearm on school property, for the record. I wouldn't blame anyone who teaches at Mt Vernon or Lee HS if they were carrying, though.

Thanks to my gun I was able to keep him out until the police arrived ten minutes after being called. I did not have to discharge my weapon during the confrontation and the individual was taken to jail and later deported. When the LA riots hit CA why was it that several of the anti-gun movie/tv stars were suddenly knocking on Charlton Heston's door asking for a loaner to defend their homes? They understood that the Police were not going to be able to help them in their time of need. If you are counting on the Police to protect you, you won't be around to witness the results of their homicide investigation. During the time it takes for the Police to receive a call and arrive at the scene, it has often become a crime scene and the perpetrators are long gone.

The bottom line here is that everyone is poking a little fun at everyone else and I think you may be taking it a little to seriously. I do actually own one small .38 revolver which I keep locked in a safe in my home with about 100 rounds of ammo. I am a gun owner but I am not a 2nd amendment zealot. The SCOTUS has modified the interpretation of the 2nd amendment in the past and they eventually will do so again. I just feel strongly that we need some common sense gun control in this country.
I also understand the fact that having a gun in my home makes me less safe not more safe, this is a proven fact. I do however keep my gun locked in a safe with a trigger lock on it unlike most gun owners. And yes I do have a dog and an alarm system along with some pepper spray so I suppose I could be called a coward as well.
The NRA is in my opinion a very anti American organization and my votes on election day will go against anyone who supports them.
