Beat out LA, and there is no way this area has even half the population of LA.

More proof you fucks can't drive.

LA Metropolitan Statistical Area = 13.0 million people
Balt-Wash Metropolitan Statistical Area = 9.3 million people

Any other stupid shit you want to claim?

Your stupid ass just got PWNED. For the purposes of the traffic study, Baltimore is considered independently of Washington, DC. Therefore, you cannot include the population of Baltimore when considering the OP's contention.

The poster above correctly demonstrates that the DC metro population is less than half of LA's.

Go back to city-data as you pound sand along the way.

It's mostly due to the people of Vienna who haven't figured out how to get around in their own town.

Why do you think there is a Baltimore-Washington MSA, asshole? Here's a clue -- it's because they can't be separated by any of the means analysts use to do such separations. No effective boundary exists between the two poles. You might as well bitch about Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Bottom line: The statement that "no way this area has even half the population of LA" is quite plainly an ignorant crock, so stuff it.

Not according to the authors of the study. If it pays to know what you're talking about, you must be up to your eyeballs in debt! LOL!

Sure they can. And they do.

Ruh ruh, looks like LOL... doesn't know the difference between a combined statistical area and a metropolitan statistical area.

Oh, great. More low-grade pea-brains with no fucking understanding of statistics trying to talk about statistics. READ THE FUCKING MANUAL, asshole. Traffic in the area is the inextricable result of commuter travel within and BETWEEN the various residential and employment hubs in the region. Since such travel is one of the principal measures that UNITE an area statistically, the division of this one on such a basis is not practical. It's as simple as that except to the exceptionally dumb.

My, my... Such anger! lol.

Your desire to include Bal'mer as part of the Washington Metro, while understandable, doesn't make it right. For the purposes of the traffic study we are discussing, Bal'mer and environs is a separate and distinct metropolitan area.

Read the fucking study moron.

They didn't combine DC and Baltimore.

Link to the report.

Notice Baltimore is listed separately.

There is no Baltimore-Washington MSA.

There is a Washington Metropolitan Statistical Area. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_metropolitan_area

And, there is a Baltimore Metropolitan Statistical Area.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltimore_metropolitan_area

Together, the two comprise the Baltimore-Washington COMBINED Statistical Area.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltimore%E2%80%93Washington_metropolitan_area

Now, if you'd like to compare LA and DC using CSAs, you'd have to use CSA's for both. You'd use the aforementioned Baltimore-Washington CSA and the Los Angeles-Long Beach CSA.

Looking at those populations, Wash-Balt population is around 9 million and LA?LB is about 18 million.

Nobody follows basic logic-driven rules of the road around here, even people who know better. If you are trying to drive as a civilized human being you will be taken advantage of or killed. You are forced to either drive abysmally or extremely aggressively. There is rarely space for a middle ground.

The infrastructure is meant to handle the volume of traffic we surpassed in 1985, and at this point we're too built up to widen roads or revamp highways without causing complete and total mayhem.

99% of people in this area can't drive as it is, but it only gets worse when they try to drive in this area. DC/NoVa is easily one of the most difficult areas to drive in, behind NYC.

Bad traffic + even worse drivers = disaster every time

Please. We live in a tiny backwater. The DC metro area is a #8 television market. Any statistics saying we are anywhere near the population of LA is just plain wrong.

#1 new york
#2 los angeles
#3 chicaco
#4 philadelphia
#5 dallas ft-worth
#6 san fran
#7 boston
#8 washington, dc

As you can see, we plainly live in a very lightly populated area.

As for why traffic sucks, it's the idiot drivers. They see something -- They slow down. It doesn't matter what it is. A leaf falling? Slow down. Why? A meteor could be next!

I've done both. I'd say NYC area actually is better than here. Heavy but at least it moves reliably on most days. Downtown during the day is hopelessly gridlocked but then it is in DC too these days. The commuter traffic throughout the area though usually tends to run a little better up there. Not as much of the stop-and-go and 3 mph creep which is what really kills your time and drives people nuts. Not that it isn't equally all fucked up at times.

LA is a lot worse than DC. DC isn't a 24/7 rush hour, LA is.

I haven't driven in LA so I can't comment. I have driven in Boston, NY and San Francsico. It really didn't seem that bad and I didn't know where I was going so I had to rely on a GPS to guess its way to the destination.

In Manhattan, the roads make sense. It's a grid. I can figure out a grid. DC is a grid, except when it isn't and the strange one ways. VA roads just wander all over the place. It's like someone paved someone's favorite ox cart trail.

Also, the confused people around decide to either stop or drive really slow hoping the GPS will finally figure things out.
