Virtual Physical

Has anyone done the virtual physical that I keep hearing advertised on the radio? If so, was it worth it - good results?

The last couple of "physicals" I've had from my primary care physician have essentially been a joke. They don't hook you up to an EKG or look at your heart or arteries for example.

I've heard that there are some "extensive" physical examination practices in our area, and I'm looking for suggestions based on positive (or negative) experiences.

Thanks for sharing.

It takes two months to book a physical at my practice. They do what appears to me to be really basic stuff, plus an EKG. If you want other tests of heart function, then you need an echocardiogram and a stress test. Those can be preventative tests for an older person, but they are not routinely performed for young people - which means insurance probably won't cover it unless you have some kind of symptoms that require investigation.

My doctor has recently gone to a concierge service, where you pay about $2,000 up front and receive extensive testing and a holistic approach to your health with close attention from the doctor. It's fully booked. If you're a young, healthy guy, this is probably overkill. As far as I can tell, detailed preventative tests aren't really necessary until you hit your 40s.

Can I pay for a virtual physical with virtual money?

I always hear those ads on the radio in the morning for Virtual Physical and Princeton Longevity. Princeton Longevity seems to do a more extensive physical exam. I have not checked out their web site yet so I'm not sure of the cost but you could probably request similar or the same extra tests at your regular doctor. Of course you'd most likely have to pay for most of those yourself.

Ads on WTOP are very expensive. Any business you hear being advertised on radio is going to have to pass those costs along to customers. Therefore the general rule is if all else is equal, a business not advertised on radio will be cheaper. Get your physical done somewhere else. Ask your doctor for recommendations or use the Internet.

Day in the life of a WMAL listener...

After waking up you can go get your virtual colonoscopy and physical at Virtual Physical. Then when you are done you can get your more expensive physical with recommendations using genetic factors an Princeton Longevity.

Next on the agenda is getting new windows from Thomas Creek and in the afternoon you can try to get you teeth cleaned while sedated from Dr Rupalalia (spelling?).

Of course you can also have your roof done for half price during this time. Apparently this is the slow time for them so they can give you a deal.

And after all of that you schedule an appointment to discuss any money issues with Rice Delman.

Hilarious!

But wait...need garage door repair? Garage Door repair dot com!

And if you need to sell your house, maybe you could call Brian Wilson (but not that Brian Wilson or that one either, the Realtor). But what about Frank Prindle? I mean he's a West Point graduate and he'll buy your house and Barbara from Shark Tank only recommends Frank. If Larry were to sell his house, he'd only buy from Debbie, the Realtor who has thousands of clients just waiting to buy your house. Like Frank, she'll buy your house if it doesn't sell...

And there's The Mortgage Radio Show that runs on Saturday at 1:00 p.m....perfect to have on in the background while you snooze.

I'm gonna call Rocky with Doctor Deb and Doctor Rob of Bethesda Sedation Dentistry. Dr. Rupuralia (and yes, I WILL call him Dr R like many of his patients do) is too far for me to drive. Larry had such a fear of dentists due to a bad experience as a child, and whether you have dental fear like Larry or just need a great dentist...

And if you go the the WMAL recommended dentist just remember you will not get any lectures (so they claim). "You really need to start using a toothbrush!"

you can "take your pulse" by looking at a free clock or stopwatch. they told us how to do that in the 1980's

your insistance on purchase of imports to take your pulse is NOT APPRECIATED

for $15 you can get an EKG sensitive device kit you can have your kid assemble, for $20 you can get it pre-assembled

definition: EKG ... expensive only if it's installed in a hospital where lawsuits are continual and bugets are steered to medical equipment makers by corporate ties

i had insurance (company omitted) i paid out of pocket cash, not by employer but individual plan

they knew i had issues but the f'ing foreigner doctor simply says i'm ok and avoid any spending and work on their part

not only that: that company was only one of the few companies doing the same in fx co gov va - that while county workers newly have their own bank and "free" gov medical care

definition: medical insurance. insuring no money is spent on caring for you but the med bill collecting girls are all well fucked every hole.

-----------------------
now keep in mind i paid extra for a better plan because i knew i could not afford costs over actual costs "AC"

I have had a Virtual Physical and it was worth every penny. So much so that I have sent my parents, husband and neighbors to get the VP. They found some plaque build up in both my husband and my dad. This exam is preventive in nature and yes cost about $895 for a total body exam which includes heart and lung scan. It is something that you do maybe twice in a life time. Yes the price sonds crazy but we would spend that on a laptop or some other crazy non-needed purchase. So a few years back we decided to invest in our health and we are ALL so glad we did it. The peace of mind is worth 10 times what we paid.

Hopefully you won't need to go to your safe space to read this. Are you ready for it? We're all going to die! I know, it's upsetting. Look at it this way. Life is not fair, but it's not fair to everyone, which kind of makes it fair!

Join Kaiser. You'll get a cursory annual physical, but they will do a full blood lab to establish your baselines and discover any problems. The blood work is the important part.

Then work out your tax problems with about 10 different tax "solutions" places, especially one advertised by Canuck Alan Thicke.

Hi Healthy Guy-I saw your post regarding virtual physical and being worth its cost. I can say for my family and I it was totally worth the money. Myself, I got a clean bill of health except a few minor issues. My husband had no idea he had a tumor, which left untreated could have possibly killed him. So if you are asking is it worth it, yes. This is a preventitive CT scan that saved my husbands life.

Thank you for posting a serious answer! My husband has been looking into these things. He tends to look into anything that costs a lot of money, but it's hard to say no when it comes to your health. Glad it worked out well for you.

The amount of radiation you will get from the CT Scan will do more harm than not taking the exam.

A CT examination with an effective dose of 10 millisieverts (abbreviated mSv; 1 mSv = 1 mGy in the case of x-rays.) may be associated with an increase in the possibility of fatal cancer of approximately 1 chance in 2000. This increase in the possibility of a fatal cancer from radiation can be compared to the natural incidence of fatal cancer in the U.S. population, about 1 chance in 5 (equal to 400 chances in 2000). In other words, for any one person the risk of radiation-induced cancer is much smaller than the natural risk of cancer. If you combine the natural risk of a fatal cancer and the estimated risk from a 10 mSv CT scan, the total risk may increase from 400 chances in 2000 to 401 chances in 2000. Nevertheless, this small increase in radiation-associated cancer risk for an individual can become a public health concern if large numbers of people undergo increased numbers of CT screening procedures of uncertain benefit.
