Hey,

My friend went on that trip. It was not region 2's trip. It actually involved Westfield high school which is in region 5. Dr. Zuluaga jumped on the trip at the last minute as the FCPS administrator, that's why it appears to be region 2's trip.

The whole deal was a school in Incheon, South Korea wanted their students to experience American life, since in Korea the English Language and American life is very "big", because you know we kind of saved their country twice. Students from South Korea visited New York for a week and Virginia for a week and stayed with FCPS students and employees for one week to experience American culture firsthand.

in return for the gracious hospitality displayed by the Americans, the South Korean School hosted the American students for a week for free. There is no FOIA information available on the trip because FCPS did not pay anything for the trip, and it was a small group of kids that participated, and it would compromise their privacy to release the information.

So there you go, it was not a frivolous FCPS expense, just a gracious cultural exchange with some very nice and generous South Koreans. that is the entire story

If Zuluaga went and got paid by FCPS, well, FCPS paid.

If Zuluaga went on his own time, then he accepted the trip from the Koreans, that probably had to get signoff from someone.

Sorry, this issue is far from closed.

The trip was during spring break..... he was not paid to go on the trip, if anything it was free professional development---he was in meetings with South Korean school personnel. What is your problem?

Let it go dude, these kinds of trips are good for the school system and the kids. Its not worth anyone's time especially if it was free. FCPS operates under an immense amount of public scrutiny, it is amazing they can get anything done. If it was really an issue, it would have been shut down immediately. So what, they got one free trip to Korea, just let it go.

Mr. Hall -

FCPS is the 10th largest school division in the US. It is appropriate and healthy for the system to interact with other systems in the US and across the globe. You're not going to fix the structural deficitin a 2.5 billion dollar budget by focusing on trips that cost nothing!
