Torres made a horrible mistake that took a mans life. Soon he will be tried by a grand jury, I hope they render a verdict that allows him to be prosecuted.
And I hope he is found guilty of manslaughter.
If Torres was a citizen and had done the same thing , he would have burned a long time ago. Double standards need not be allowed.
The jury will decide, and if he's guilty the Geer family will sue him also.

This has been going on for almost 2 years. Torres shot an unarmed man wearing a t-shirt and shorts. Geer was standing behind the screen door to his t/house. Torres claimed that Geer lowered his hands to his waist, but other police witnesses did not substantiate that claim. The county has handled this situation horribly, the police basically stonewalled any investigation.
Lesson learned, don't call the FC police if you are having a domestic problem. Someone may get shot by these clowns.
Torres was aiming his handgun on Geer from about 20-25ft while another police officer was trying to calm the situation and resolve the crisis. Can you imagine having a conversation with one cop while another is drawing down on you?? Its beyond proper training, its called common sense.

And the fact that they didn't lie about it to protect him in my opinion shows that there is some credibility in the department. I get that cop bashing is all the rage but at least in this case they were honest and a criminal case is being pursued. People want to act like Fairfax is the next Baltimore in this forum. It's stupid. Nothing but trust funds as far as the eye can see around here.

I think everyone is focused on the wrong issue. Yes, John Geer did not have to die. At the same time, Officer Torres did not have to lose his job and place his family in turmoil.
Both of those situations occurred because FCPD routinely, and as a matter of policy, engages in the unsafe practice of pointing loaded weapons at unarmed civilians. Pointing a loaded weapon at someone has a certain failure rate associated with it. That failure rate appears as in the case of John Geer, and the case of Sal Culosi.
No one should be surprised that those two unarmed civilians died. The failure rate associated with pointing loaded weapons at unarmed people made it inevitable. Further, anything the FCPD does short of stopping the unsafe practice will only change the failure rate; it will not stop the death of the unarmed.
I'm surprised the anti-gun crowd hasn't recognized this simple fact. Guns pointed at people inevitably lead to death.

He wasn't completely unarmed. He had a gun at his feet. The threat of being shot by him was there. When I am roving around my house, without a weapon in my possession anywhere in the house - I am unarmed.
Nice, upstanding people do not get shot by police. They just don't. So fucking sick about hearing about this guy. His family got millions, the police officer was fired and will never be an officer again. Moving on.
