Why is summer vacation so long?
I hate it! Almost 3 months without school! This is a joke! Summer vacation should be one month old! Don't forget that Ryan will closed the schools down at least 10 times this winter

I think it hearkens back to a simpler time when students on summer break, even the elementary school kids, could entertain themselves outside with bikes, pickup soccer games, etc..., and not place a large extra burden on the parents.
Today, you can go to jail by letting your kids roam outside unattended. Really a shame. I remember biking to my friends house in McLean to hang out during the summer in the 80s, and I was like 9.
Ultimately, if you don't want your kids to be complete slackers, their's always day camp.

When is the last time a kid helped on a farm or at a park that law is so 1920s. The teachers want a raise so why can't we go to a year round school year.
