Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I am from Mississipi. I have a question. Why don't Fairfax or Prince William Have a place where we can go Every Friday and Saturday where we could see people racing ? we had a very nice speedway place and it was lots of fun. But We moved here cause my husband was transfer to fort belvior, and it sucks. There nothing to do here on the weekends. anyone know where we can go and watch some races?
Old Dominion Speedway used to be in Mansassas across from the fair grounds. It was closed due to infill developers complaining of noise. ODS is now in the process of reopening in Fredericksburg, 45 minutes south.
For drag racing, MIR Maryland International Raceway is in Budds Creek MD and offers drag racing. Capitol Raceway may still be an option, too. They are in Crofton MD off US 50. There is also Mason Dixon Drag Strip in Boonsboro MD, about an hour away on I-70 in MD.
See a pattern? Maryland has the close tracks. There is not round-round anymore. Summit Point (WVA) near Harpers Ferry has several road course.
Another fun thing is the indoor carts at ALL SPEED GP on Mares Rd in Sterling. They are FAST!!
In the meantime, I think the PW County fair is around this time of year, and it is heads and shoulders above the Fairfax Fair. Mud bog, demo derby, freak show, and carnie food. Google might have more on this.
I hope this has helped. As a lifetime resident of this county, I was lucky to have seen Fairfax in all her glory, but the sun set a couple years back, maybe a decade.

Dominion Raceway is in Thornburg which is many miles south of F'burg.
I wouldn't make any plans to go there just yet. It was supposed to open this year but now has been pushed back to Spring 2016. Word on the street is the money has run out. The track hasn't even been completed yet and no buildings have been built.

I think Dominion Speedway, which was correctly pointed out as being in Thornier, south of F'burg, is now open. The PCA has a driving event scheduled there near the end of August.
Other interesting things are Katie's cars and Coffee in Great Falls on Saturday mornings, Fairfax Circle Cars and Coffee at Cameron's Chocolates (Bowl America and Lotte' parking lot) on Sunday mornings.
Also, the Burger King off 28 at the 234 Bypass (near Manassas Airport) has a Sat eve cruise-in. Chick Fil A in Sterling has a similar one on Friday nights.
Used to be street racing everywhere, but that goes back 25+ years, before the sun set on Fairfax County.
