I have my regular mechanic handle the inspections (currently the dealer while the free annual service lasts), no need to worry about fails or rip offs.

I go to an official Virginia State Inspection Station.

When I get my oil changed the mechanic slaps a new inspection on.

Unless your mechanic is like family, I wouldn't get my car inspected by my regular mechanic.

If a gas station fails you for something, they aren't going to be making any money on the repair unlike your mechanic.

If my mechanic recommends a repair I get the work done, adding inspections to the mix does not change this.

I hope you don't go to NTB. They'll want to rebuild your whole car if you let them.
