Two Sherwin-Williams paint stores in Herndon?!

A very long time ago, we bought some paint at the Sherwin-Williams store in the Pine shopping plaza at Elden and Monroe. Since I hate painting, I haven't been there since.

I'm having some work done and the handyman asked me to pick up the paint to avoid confusion. So yesterday I was driving west on Elden, headed for that store, and lo and behold, there's a Sherwin-Williams store on the south side of Elden at Grant! So I pulled in there and got what I needed.

I then continued west on Elden, and to my surprise, the old store is still there! Anyone have any idea why there would be two S-W stores within two blocks of each other?! It's hardly Starbucks or Exxon, or even McDonald's...seems very odd.

It's a front - They are not actually selling paint in the older location.

Personally I avoid sherwin Williams at all costs. Sub-par paint that is outrageously overpriced. As a painter I bought all my paint from Duron for 25 years. Then Sherwin Williams bought duron, and all the paint went to caca and all prices doubled. Complete ripoff.

Just as well buy Bear paint, McCormick, Olympic

With so many turnovers and foreclosures, why not?

One was a Duron. But the stores are all being phased out and turned into Sherwin Williams. Honestly I think it should close and open somewhere in Reston.

Maybe a deal can be worked out in Vienna with numerous mattress stores. In each mattress store a small SW paint store could be set up, and they would carry the basics of painting and supplies.

To carry it to the next level there could also be a Nathan's hotdog stand with a mini micro brewery.

I imagine it has to do with the huge number of day laborers in Herndon. A lot of them are painters, so for that reason, Herndon can support two S-W paint stores.

That explains it--now I remember that it was a Duron store. I assume they're stuck with a lease on one of 'em, haven't decided what to do yet. Mystery solved!
