I've been noticing this tread recently, too. It seems people like like to think bars are now day care centers while parents go drinking. I went to a couple of wineries yesterday and there were kids everywhere. Just running around with their stupid dogs, parent sitting there getting drunk, not paying attention. Fuckin obnoxious. Moms walking around with their stupid baby carriers on while drinking wine.

I don't have a problem with parents at pool parties or festivals having some wine.

But, at a bar or night club the kids are out of place. There is nothing for a kid do at a bar except learn how to watch drunks and listen to sex talk.

I once heard a bartender tell a guy "No kids at the bar."

The guy replied "My parents took me to a bar."

The bartender replied "Yeah and look at how you turned out!" LMAO

People take their kids to bars all over the country and it's not just a Southern or DC area thing. Ever been to Wisconsin or Minnesota where the whole family goes to them? Grandma, grandma, aunts, and uncles too.

LOL. I grew up across the street from a bar. Used to hang out there playing with the kids who grew up above the bar. I even helped inventory the liquor (for no pay). I think I was about 10 at the time. My mother (from Iowa) did not really approve, but I think I turned out okay. Of course the kids who grew up above the bar, um, not so okay.

Got a lot of free bowling and pool though.

Some of the best family bars I've ever been to were in northern Wisconsin
Strange thing though. Parents actually make their kids behave themselves
in public unlike the Socialist Republic of Northern Virginia.

We don't have "bars" per se in Virginia. Establishments must make 51% of their gross in food or risk their ABC license.

Not OP, but my problem is more than that. I don't go to a bar to hear children whine, or watch/listen to them play with toys. The other day I was in a place where some couple had precious with his Etch-a-Sketch. He started banging it around and making all kinds of noise. I had to move to the other side of the bar. Another time some kid was playing with his truck--rolling it around on the floor making it a racket. Then he came over and put it on the bar in front of us to "show it to us." Pony up for a babysitter if you want to hang out in a bar.

"American culture" can be found in any and every state. To say that only one place/region has a monopoly or dearth of it is the province of idiots.

There are some bars that practically encourage adults to bring kids; there's others where it would be a crime against humanity to bring a kid.

As the parent of a toddler, I often meet one of my friends (with their kid in tow), and we often stop off at bars, generally during the day, and only if they have booster seats, and kid friendly fare. That's our barometer anyway.
