24+ reports in 2 days of larceny from vehicles: “Lock your cars"

Officers in the West Springfield Police District responded to over two dozen reports of larcenies from vehicles on Sunday, July 19 into Monday July 20. None of the vehicles were locked. These thefts took place in the on streets off Huntsman Boulevard and Coachman Drive, many in the Lorton and Burke areas.

Residents in these areas are asked to check their home surveillance systems for any unusual activity during this timeframe. Anyone in these areas who may have noticed anything out of the ordinary are also asked notify police at 703-691-2131.

Across the county, there have been hundreds of similar cases in recent months. Police are reaching out to homeowner associations and Neighborhood Watch groups with the message “If you like it, lock it,” and other crime prevention tips. Instead of concealing valuables in your vehicle, such as in the trunk, police ask that residents completely remove them from the vehicle and then lock it.

This has happened in Fairfax City also. Someone needs to put an end to this.

If the police spent more time patrolling and less time filing code violation reports (which they do, they even go to special classes on what to look for) this problem might be solved.

Kings Park West had many of these offenses occur in the neighborhood. We had three waves. Each time, the cars that were hit were unlocked. No wonder we had two additional waves. Some kids were taken into custody just recently.

Just lock your friggen cars. It's not rocket science and it's just a quick push of a button.

Cars parked in the garage...doors closed...problem solved.

Similar problem in Middleridge and Fairfax Club recently...a group of juveniles stealing random stuff. The FCPD sent out pictures of the stolen property after no one came by to claim it...the loot included several packs of (open) cigarettes, cans of smokeless tobacco, about a dozen disposable lighters, and a strip of condoms. Hard to believe that no one made the effort to retrieve their property.

Not everyone lives in a house. Your theory won't work in some apartment buildings.
