Would you put up with...

Would you put up with a 2.5 hour EACH WAY $7+ EACH WAY commute on the METRO (bus to train station, ride train to transfer point, transfer to another train, then get on final bus to destination) for a PART TIME job?

Called Yellow Cab, its even worse- $25 EACH WAY....Uber about the same

All for an office 10 miles/20 minutes away by car!

Biking is an option- but with these pop up thunderstorms and carrying a laptop...I don't think so!!!!

Well-would you?

So, uh, buy a new car? Fix the old one? Seriously, what's the problem here? If you don't have $2500, the fuck are you doing in this area?

I don't have $2500 because I work PART TIME.

THANKS OBAMA. I was cut from full to part time due to obamacare (true story). I had to accept or lose my job altogether.

In that regard, I only make enough to pay my basic bills (rent takes up 60% of my take home income- and I am already in the cheapest living situation I could find here in Fairfax County). I also have child support to pay (just got divorced).

Credit is crappy due to said divorce, so no credit cards to put the repair on. Already tried for financing with the shop that has the car, no dice.

Called family, no one has that much to loan me. Even tried 5 people for $500 each, no dice there.

I did get a new FULL time job to go with the current one, but it doesn't start for another 2 weeks so I wont get paid from that for at least another month.

The car can be fixed, it will just take another month or 2 to save up for with said new full time job.

I am in this area because this is where the jobs are. Why do you think all the illegals are here too? Same thing.

You make a lot of bad life decisions.

I was not the one who chose to get divorced or the one who chose to work less hours. I was not the one to run up the credit cards either (all proven in court). I have another job to help out to make sure my kid does not go without, I am NOT a deadbeat, just having a hard time right now..

Not everyone's life is perfect and not everyone has friends that can loan them $2500 at the drop of a hat.

For the record, I am getting up extra early to catch the bus tomorrow. Missed the last one outta here anyways. Already called my job to let them know.

Now back to finding money to fix my car- metro sucks ASS around here.

You have a full time job starting in 2 weeks. In the meantime, pay the $14 for your round trip commute on crappy weather days, bike on nice days. Get a ride from someone whenever you can.

How do you plan to get to your full time job?

Bucks- I am going to do that. Plan on getting up at 5am to get to my job by 9am. Already contacted some coworkers who live near me for rides, offering gas money. Already looking at my bike as plan "C".

The new full time job is only 3 miles away- an easy walk/bike ride so that is no problem. I know I will get plenty of OT, so money won't be an issue 30-45 days from now. Just hurting right at this moment.

Maybe this is just a rant from me. Thanks I feel better letting it all out.

Where do you work and where do you live?

Commuter connections is your answer.

You can buy a motorcycle or better yet the largest type scooter (great gas mileage, some of these do 70 mph) which actually resembles a motorcycle for a lot less than 2500.00 used.

or you could purchase a giLapi (sp.?) -- an old car which is mechanically sound -- cheap to insure -- no car tax (except the fee)

and just run it into the ground while you save for something more convenient.

While this is a good alternative, it isn't a viable option now since he doesn't even have the money to fix his car.

commuter connections is your savior.
