Best Location To View 4th Of July Fireworks In The DMV
Posted by: Holiday Info ()
Date: June 29, 2015 05:36PM

Looking for the best location in the DMV for me to view fireworks on the 4th of July. I want a location that has a good display, ease to drive to, and has ample parking. A plus would be a location where the crowds are not overwhelming, and sanitary restrooms.

I am in my 3nd year here in Fairfax, and I am still learning the DMV area

Thanks, open to any suggestions.

The best place at the DMV to view fireworks from would have to be at a window, I would guess. But why would you go to the Division of Motor Vehicles to view fireworks? That does not make sense.

You beat me to it.

Locals don't call this area the DMV... And NOVA is a community college.

DMV is now and has for years been the Department of Motor Vehicles. It is an embarrassment that you out of town hipsters couldn't come up with a better term for the DC Metro area.

For several years we'd park at a friend's apartment building and then watch the fireworks from the Marine Corps Memorial.

It's the Division of Motor Vehicles, or Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia.

What fireworks display do you want to see? If you are referring to the show on the Mall, it's very easy to get a good spot. You just have to start at about 5 am by walking a few miles and then camp out all fucking day in the heat and most likely scorching sun to see 20 minutes worth of fireworks. THEN the fun begins......getting home. I remember leaving the Mall after the fireworks, usually around 10, and didn't get back to Fairfax until 3am. So prepare for a looooooooooong ass day.

I used to go down to the Mall back in the good old days when they had the Beach Boys concert and shit to do all day. I remember one year we carried a fucking couch loaded with beer from Columbia Island Marina all the way to the base of the Washington Monument at 6 in the morning. The cops thought it was hilarious. Now you would get arrested. I dont think you can even have a beer down there now.

I'd say just stay home if you aren't willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. Oh and be prepared to be joined by thousands of smelly, dirty Hispanics pissing and shitting everywhere and waving flags from everywhere but the USA.

I want a location that has a good display, ease to drive to, and has ample parking. A plus would be a location where the crowds are not overwhelming, and sanitary restrooms.

You can forget about all of those pipe dreams ^ (You must be a liberal)

That show is amateur hour compared to the show on the Mall. Once you've seen (and heard) those fireworks everything else pales in comparison.

I miss the days when alcohol was allowed on the Mall during the fireworks. We would smuggle in kegs and play drinking games all day on the Mall.

Oh what a great shit show it was. College girls passing out. Good times!

The Best, Right under them on the mall.

Or you could go to my "secret spot". I really should keep my mouth shut, but it is a bit of a hassle to get up there especially if its stinking hot, you can walk or bike, there is a crowd but its not that bad yet. "Ya Awl" keep it a top FXU secret. Up on the New Woodrow Wilson bridge. There out there about 4 miles away , but its fun to see all the boats too .

Mt Vernon trail between roosevelt island and memorial bridge. You can't be a fat ass though cause parking is in the hills of Rosslyn and its quite the trek to get to the trail. Go and be amazed.

There's a park on the VA side which connects to the sidewalk over the bridge.

No stopping on the bridge, but the traffic will stop and slow as the firework's go off. There will be Maryland Police there to keep them moving.

The bridge has a wide bike and walking lane on the DC side of the bridge, There are a couple of lookout areas with binoculars mounted , freebies no quarters needed.

The bridge is 75 feet off the river under the bridge and about 85 feet at least in the middle off the river, the old bridge was 50 feet.

You can walk all the way across the river on the bridge and go to National Harbor by walkways over the beltway. No dangerous crossing the roads and of course the Va side is at the bottom of Old Town Alex next to Fairfax County with many restaurants nearby in Old Town. Parking is in Old Town and parks nearby off the GW Parkway but its a hoof and its a long uphill grade walking up from Washington St. so if its hot it may be too much for some so be careful. The bridge is about 1 mile long from beginning to end. National harbor is close to 2 miles. Its about 2/3 of a mile actually over the water.

Steps of the Lincoln Memorial - its the best. Just be prepared for the lines on the Metro as you leave. But its a great spot - the fireworks go off between you and the Washington Memorial, and its just amazing.

I did this last year: the Woodrow Wilson bridge. Go 495 across into Maryland, take 295 north and at your first chance, go back south. As you make the exit onto 495, there is a large open gravel place on the left. Park here. Walk along the bridge and see the show. Then hop in the car and leave. There were about 25 other cars doing the same. Not too many nogs either.

Not really just having a little fun. I would join SCC but the course is too easy. Laurel Hill from the tips now that's a golf course. I wouldn't exactly call SCC the finer things in life, let's just say their food is par for the course. I like to eat at Ruth Chris in Crystal City how about you creflo dollar. Oh and I do work hard (or at least I use to) I retired at 52 with annual interest income of about 250k. Come out to LH Tuesdays or Thursdays mornings and ask for Skip and I will show you how to hit a golf ball Or give you a lesson No seriously!

WW Bridge is a good place for a view that's different, but the BEST VIEW is right under um , on a boat right in front of the Wash. Monument. Party Time is there for sure. But it is a hassle. And if you go, don't be in no hurry to leave, let the fools with the 41 foot Scarabs and Cigarette Top Gun 38 footers leave first at high speed going south. A boat you can sleep over on is the best bet.
