Since moving to this area I have noticed a divide that I haven't previously paid attention too because I have never really been around that many whites to know or care about certain dynamics but living here I have noticed something that I find interested. Whites with money do not like "white trash" at all. I mean they talk horribly about "white trash"

Is that the normal across America or just in this area? I had no idea this type of thing existed.

Some people are considered "white trash" because they're poor.
Some people are considered "white trash" because of their bigoted views.

They are not nessisarily the same people.

Yes they look down on white trash because they see them as an embarassment

Where did you move here from? Obviously not America.

It has its roots in the South, especially in the Reconstruction Era after the Civil War when there were poor sharecroppers who were so low on the Socio-Economic scale that they were on the same level as recently freed slaves working alongside them.

My great great grandfather was a fair skin black man (he didnt try to pass) that was given land by his uncle and he was a very successful farmer and respected for the most part by whites and some actually worked for him. He was a huge deal during that time but yes the whites that worked for him were considered trash.

white trash usually refers to people who have poor values, like buying cigarettes and drugs with money that should go toward the needs of the children they brought into this world

low income people can be hard working with good values, many work long hours and invest in their kids' education

white trash is like the honey boo boo bunch that allows child molester to keep touching the kids or the duggars who keep having kids and exploiting them on tv instead of working a real job to support them

I have asked white people that I know who refer to other whites as white trash why do they call them that and they just say because they are not like us or just look at them. It's confusing because some white guy I know that has a nice job making good money was called white trash by a white friend of mine who has a similar job as the guy he called white trash so it has to be more than just money.

The easiest way to identify white trash on this forum are those who are obsessed with demonizing immigrants and black people instead of dealing with their own shit.

In most cases the person who sinks to calling another a name is the person with the real issue. If you have a valid issue with someone you can speak about it without name calling.

Those who claim to be "above" others while calling those other people names aren't worth my time.

People very easily make the distinction between wealthy/well-to-do whites and white trash, but few people every make that distinction with blacks. There are plenty of wealthy, polite, educated black people but they are continually clumped into the low income stereotypes.

The most recent posts are correct, Whites will split the "White trash" and "upper-class" groups of people... but lump ALL Black people regardless of class, education, finances, etc into the "nigger" category. So on-sight, if one has dark brown skin, they are called a "nigger" before even having a chance to prove their worth/skill.

Same with Hispanics, to A MAJORITY of whites, ALL Hispanics are "Mexican" regardless of country of origin when a majority of Hispanics in the area are from El Salvador, Honduras, etc.

This is why it is hard for Blacks and Hispanics (collectively) to get jobs from Whites, due to this stereotype. One Black or Hispanic person does something bad, ALL Blacks and Hispanics are cast as "bad" no matter their ACTUAL CLASS.

So I asked a white friend what makes a person white trash and he told me that most white trash drink budweisers, like NASCAR, have farmer tans, and greasy hair. He also said that they have blue collar jobs or no job at all. They are very rarely seen in certain neighborhoods and tend to know their place.
