Great fly fishing in Cub Run near 29. Also large small-mouth bass found in the sewer/storm drains near London Towne.

Christ, there's no fuck*ing fishing anywhere near C'ville, dufus. The fertilizer alone kills everything larger than a minnow in these parts.

Drive west for about 45 min and then ask the first hick you see.

Can you not get in your car and drive 45 min to a decent stream?

C'Ville and Chantilly are full of apt. complexes that pollute the piss out of any run or creek.

When was the last time anyone saw an 20-inch rainbow trout in Cub Run?

Best closest bet west would be the Shenandoah in the Valley.

Actually, the Shenandoah is one of the most polluted rivers in VA. Every yr there are big fish kills occurring, this yr is no exception. Chicken poop is not cool.

Go up to Chain Bridge.

Chantilly.
There are actually several good ponds to fish in Chantilly and Fairfax for that matter. There are trout in the creek that runs right next to Wendy's in Vienna and other good spots fairly close to FFC that often get over looked for lakes like Burke Lake and Fountainhead.

@Blue Plains: I used to work near that place. I found out one of the reasons the plant stinks, especially in the summer, when some of us took a tour:

There is one building where a series of chain-driven scoops pull out much of the trash (cardboard, wood, styrofoam, etc.) before the raw sewage enters the main plant. All of these solids are piled up outside, where they spew their odor from soaking in raw sewage, until hauled away by trucks. Surprisingly (or maybe not), there were quite a few "Allegheny Whitefish" visible among this debris!

A super awesome trip is to float down bull run from Rt 28 to Yates Ford Road. There is some great bass fishing there. You can park in the parking lot across Yates ford rd from the boat launch and carry your kayak across the road or if you live in Fairfax you can pay the Fairafx Park Authority a small amount each year ($75) and get a key to use the boat ramp at Yates ford road. The Occoquan is a fabulous bass lake and few people use it because of the limited access.

i have fished the cub run creek many times and caught 5lb catfish 3.6 pound bass and carp that are 6-12 pounds (havent caught the monster 12 pound one, he could weigh more) just go to that little bridge by the start of it than go underneath the highway, those spots are golden. Keep fishing that area and you eventually end up at the golf course.

I have been fishing cub run all My life. I know of a handful of holes that produce big bass. I've caught 5 lbs. bass from This creek a bunch. I've caught huge catfish and huge carp. If you go behind chantilly country club the creek is behind it. Good spots there. There's an old civil war bridge and to the right of it there's a cove whee a small stream feeds into it. Great fish. In fact I went today and caught a couple sunfish with a beetle spin. For bass I use black rubber worms 7 inch. Texas rigged. Or white and yellow grubs work well. It's a good creek have fun. Also there is a semi private pond down past the quary in 29. It's right behind the truck place on the right before you get to the bull run winery. This is a great pond/lake. I've pulled 9 lbs. bass from there twice. I know plenty of places in this area. Plenty of honey holes.

Thanks for the tips will have to check them out. The quary you mentioned, would that be the one in what used to be the junk yard in Gainsville? Years ago I had permission to fish that quary and there are some huge bass in it. I caught a 19.5" crappie there once. Def citation maybe a record. Anyway there are some nice ponds in Chantilly that are easy access for old people and kids.

These were caught in Chantilly in some ponds in a commercial complex with water features. Great fun and easy access and BIG fish. The boy caught a 25+ lb carp in the pond the bass came out of. We practice catch and release so we don't deplete the resource. These ponds are great places to try out new lures and Spence likes to fly fish them.

Thanks for posting that location mang. Me and my friends and family will be invading it soon. we'll bring our buckets and coke can fishing poles. we will catch and keep as many stunted blue gills and bass as we can. In return, we will leave all of our worm containers, empty Corona bottles, dirty diapers and chicken bones on the creek banks. If you know of any our locations we can ruin, please post them!

Def to hot to fish right now. The trick with that particular pond is our little tow man boat. It gets you to places that never get fished from the bank. A kyak would be ideal too as they are even more stealthy. Have fun and bring lots of water and a bag of black worms. ;o)

Hey Nip (or anyone) quick question-

Do i need to register a little Jon boat with the Commonwealth of VA/county- or can I just buy one and hit the water?

I have a canoe I take out sometimes, but was wondering since I'm about to pull the trigger on a larger boat so I can take someone with me next time!

Thanks! (*goes off to google the answer too*)

Something like this:

If it has a motor then yes needs to be registered. If your boat is new it should be a easily done on the Fish and Game web site. The boat the boy and I are using is very similar to the one in the photo you posted above. Our's may be a little smaller. We got ours from a freind and the transfer title made things a little more complicated but it was worth it. I'm going to be purchasing a larger boat soon and all the registration process can be done at the dealer. Not much different than buying a new car. The great thing about small boats like the one above is you just throw them in the back of the truck and go. We just use a trolling motor on ours and we have caught a ton of fish out of her and spent some great hours together. All the fish I have posted in this thread have come from the Chantilly lakes in the business park near Dulles. Spence even hung a 30lb carp out there earlier this spring. All catch and release.

Carper while technically illegal no one does anything to stop people from using the park. A couple of the bass above were caught under the trees in your photo. Spencer caught the carp directly across from them. The pond across the street is a great eco system and the fish are healty and strong.

Frank R. bite me. Strickly catch and release unless I'm in the ocean then we keep and eat.

Best place to fish used to be the upper Potomac right up from Point of Rocks(Lander), but I had a Bass Tracker. Definitely you have to use a boat with a rock guard on it. Without it, you'll tear up your prop.

What about here near Chantilly, where are some fishing spots?

Local ponds are usually private. Where can I catch some smallmouths?

Catch and release only. Let me know.

Fred C, The pond above are in Chantilly and there is anothe in the business park at Lee and Walney. As for small Mouths try Scotts run. It's a hike to get back there but there is a clear walking trail all the way to the river. Another good place to go is Roaches Run for large mouth, gar, catfish and snakehead. Snakehead are fun to catch fight hard and are supposed to be delisious. But I would not eat anything out of Roaches.

Yea OK to fish there but I do it on weekends and in the evening after the office staff has left. The pond across the street is good on weekends. I'm fairly certain that the posted signs are for insurence reasons and while enforceable it would be costly to do so. I have never been asked to leave there. The photos above were taken when me and my son were theer and all the fish in them were caught there. A great place to be sure.

I have always loved the upper Potomac. Sharpsberg is awesome! Enjoy.

Regarding Point of Rocks--you're never going to find more beautiful smallmouth water, and the smallmouth you pull out of there are beautifully marked and while small, are healthy and strong. Fishing under the bridge in the boulder field and listening to the train go by is like heaven.

What's not like heaven? I feel like Donald Trump for saying this, but half of Mexico is having cookouts on the shore line, and people bathe in the river, and everybody throws their trash in the river or just walks away and leaves it on the ground. Really. It's like a perfect, beautiful river for fishing and the illegal immigrants just trash it. Not to mention that you're leaving your car parked while you wade off 200 yards into the center of the river. I've never had my car broken into, but each time I come back expecting it to be.

If you can go up river from the boat ramp using a boat, I imagine you'd get away from the illegals a bit.

Sorry for the Trump outburst, but I've seen more than one great fishing spot trashed by illegals who seem to have some massive aversion to simply cleaning up their trash when they're done.

Yesterday at Roaches Run. Caught some small bass but these were a bunch of fun. This was the biggest of the twelve or so we caught going close to 20 pounds. It was a great day.

The bass are all from ponds in and around Chantilly's industrial parks the carp is from Roaches Run. There are 2 ponds off Edsall Rd. near the Va. Concrete plant. the one across from Washington Gas has some huge snake head in it. Fun to catch.

I put the two man boat in the one across from W.gas all the time. I think it's owned by FCPS. They have a lot of land in that area. No one ever bothers me while there fishing. There is a snake head in there that will go at least 15 pounds maybe 20. She is huge. The lake is also loaded with bass crappie and some of the biggest bluegill I've caught in this area in a long long time.

There's no place to put in a boat unless you work for Vulcan.

From that street view look to the left and see where the white truck is coming from where Industrial turns right. There's a fenced in School Bus lot and little gap of parking before the gates to the Armored trucks.

You could park there on the weekends. But I wouldn't fuck around near the armored trucks for obvious reasons.

This is where we park and put the boat in. I've never fished the other pond, the one closest to the Vulcan plant. Usually on one bothers you and I think the parking spots are for the bus drivers and are FCPS property. If you fish close to the pump there are crappie, bass, big bluegill, snakehead and catfish. Its a pretty diverse eco system. Lots of fun on a nice summer day. Right now I have to get another 2 man boat as the ass hunter has a hole in her. I'm thinking of trying to put my tracker in the pond but haven't tried that yet...

Why go through all that work fishing? Why not just head over to Arthur Treacher's for some amazing, fresh fried fish?

You don't have to catch it, clean it OR cook it.

Plus fishing is fucking stupid.

Anybody have any specific locations for fishing in South riding? Besides the fishing pier and the fountain pond by foodlion..

Yea my buddy is always ragging my ass about letting them go. He doesn't understand that Virginia killing is optional but recommended. He's a little slow. But the snakehead are here to stay and they fight like demons are a ton of fun to catch. This is a big one but there is an even bigger one in this pond. Makes for a great afternoon of fishing.
