FCPS School Board meeting ILLEGAL vote June 15, 2015!!!!!!!

Wow, what a show last night was! The board admitted that there was no LEGAL standing for a year-long task force researching family Life vs. health pro-gay agenda, and then they pushed it through anyway? huh?!!
There's must have been 500 in attendance, (overflow watching a screen in the gym) many many citizens provided cogent, well-researched and documented speeches that showed that none of this blindsiding agenda was supported at the state level. The citizens showed opposition of easily 95%. The school board listened patiently to each presenter ..... and then in a convoluted mess of amendments voted the opposite - they did anything and everything to push it through.
The school board didn't follow protocol with including a school board rep in the year-long task force, nobody knows anything about where the agenda came from, how could they even continue the vote when it was uncovered that SOP hadn't been observed? HAD there been a school board rep, a principal or two, a couple clergy, who was on this task force?!

Statement from Fairfax County School Board Chair Tamara Derenak Kaufax:
“The School Board this evening took action by adopting, with amendment, the recommendations of the Family Life Education (FLE) Curriculum Advisory Committee that balances the educational needs of our students while respecting the rights of parents to opt out of FLE lessons. The School Board voted to retain fifteen of the FLECAC lesson objectives in FLE, rather than place them into the Health Curriculum, in order to ensure parents retain their opt out rights.
“The Virginia Dept. of Education (VDOE) has established guidelines for school divisions to follow in the implementation of an FLE program that is developed locally, as is the case in FCPS. The VDOE guidelines detail specific content areas that must be included.
However, the guidelines allow for additional curriculum content to be included at the discretion of the local school board.
“It is important to note that all FLE designated lessons will continue to have the opt out provision. Our parents’ role in determining if their child will receive FLE lessons has not changed. We respect parents’ rights to make the choices they believe are in the best interest of their families.
“We very much appreciate the feedback received regarding the proposed FLE curriculum and believe this compromise benefits all FCPS’ families.”

You are so right, OP! The Board is coming apart. Parents will be blindsided and then furious. Now the county has to pay for an opt out form to go home for every student in every school and ask for it signed and returned with or without parental opt out. Who pays for that? Can't we just follow the rules around here? Do they doubt our ability to parent so much?
