As for parents of transgender children, generally we do NOT want our kids in the bathrooms. 99.9% of the time we are happy if our kids are allowed to use single stall, private bathrooms.

Dress code will NOT work in high school. Redoing high school locker rooms is going to cost a fortune. Given FCPS' loose procurement policies, some plumbing contractor is going to get very rich.

Then, just about every school is going to want a transgender consultant. Once again, FCPS will rubber stamp the contracts.

In the background, Ted Velkoff is working on getting taxation authority for the schools. This is so YOU can pay for the locker rooms and consultants. Also, FCPS will want all new curriculum materials to teach about the transgender lifestyle and the values of gay marriage.

Not only has FCPS become a joke, but an expensive one at that.

All you can do at this point is to vote out as many of the school board members as possible. They are all up for re-election this year. Ryan McElveen is the force behind the gay and transgender issues. Velkoff is the one getting them their own tax authority.

And, don't forget they all voted themselves a raise. Time for them to go.

I don't think there's anything wrong with expressing concerns about how a failing school district is wasting money. I've seen that my taxes could double because of the schools. The schools aren't spending money on teachers and books. The teachers don't get raises and they did not buy science books to pay for turf fields.

I want to know how you get into MIT with a turf field.

I want to know why we will spend millions on transgender bathrooms when transgender students make up less than 1% of the population. Keep in mind that students of all genders are still being taught in trailers that don't have bathrooms at all. Of course, eventually, FCPS will cry for more money to build classrooms. Then taxes go up again and again.

Well, yes. Claiming that FCPS is failing is pretty stupid. Sure, there are some problems. We have the 10th largest school system in the country, and are pretty much the best of the really large school districts. We're spending less per student than Loudoun and Montgomery County, and acheiving similar or better outcomes. The sky is not falling.

Your taxes are not going to double. There has been some talk about separate taxation authority for the School Board, but that would take the roughly 52% of the County budget for Schools out of the control of the Board of Supervisors.

Instructional staff salary is the biggest expense of the school system. If we got rid of the set-asides for turf fields and put it to their salaries, they'd get a nice .04% increase.

FCPS is not spending money on transgender bathrooms.

Heh, you might want to look at the brain drain that has been occurring for the last 5 years as teachers and staff realize they can get paid significantly more working one county over. FCPS is not nearly where it was in the 90s and almost all of that comes down to basic budgeting mishaps.

This is not driven by civil, reasonable people. It is driven by a few activists that benefit from creating unrest in communities. The original thought was for single stall restrooms and there are already lawsuits prohibiting that solution. The activists will settle for nothing but unisex rest rooms and locker rooms along with a huge capital investment in facilities.

These same activists are well funded by contractors. The restrooms and locker rooms will have to be built by contractors. Other contractors, such as Eric Jensen, receive tens of thousands of dollars despite not being qualified. But, hiring consultants is an "empire building" technique allowing Gatehouse bureaucrats to increase their staff, budget, and areas of responsibility.

It would come as NO surprise if Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner got hired as a transgender consultant. Like Eric Jensen, a sole source contract; like Eric Jensen, just shy of $10,000/day.

Every single last one of them needs to go. I wish they would put this on the ballot, a reform of FCPS. I'm paying $4800 a year in taxes. Half goes to FCPS who do as they please and the other half is for things like the Police and Fire Games.

I'd like to see major cuts in so-called County "services" as well, I'm not getting good value for my tax money.
