I know this question has been asked before but I will ask it again. Why is almost everything that has been built recently labeled as "upscale" or "luxury"

Why do these companies keep buying up all the lots right near metrorail stations to build their upscale and luxury bullshit?

Because people like to pay an extra $20,000, $30,000 or $50,000 to live near a Metro station that they will use for maybe a month or two before reverting to driving because actually using the Metro is so inconvenient?

....because they don't want people making less than $50k a year to be able to survive in Fairfax County, that's why.
There is nothing being built for lower income people. Only for the rich government contractors, etc and of course since housing is a business, they will go after getting those types of workers to live in their units vs lower to middle class income people.
All the service workers are forced to either double up or live out PWC, Fauquier, SPotsylvania, etc and commute- which is a whole extra set of costs (transportation/car notes/gas).
You can pay $1800 and live right at the metro or next door to your job, or pay $1400 and live in PWC but still spend $400 a month in gas to make it to your fairfax county job. Same difference.....

Metrorail on the weekends is a disaster with all of their weekend track work.
