New Giant Opens In Kings Park
Date: June 20, 2015 11:58AM

One word Jammed. That's the parking lot Friday, Big new store long awaited. Seafood dept. Had a bunch of big fillets of Mahi Mahi, whole red snappers for the BBQ grill. The rest of the store same as others . Store is much bigger then the old one.

The Giant in Burke by the train tracks is now closed. Several fast food places already closed there and it will be a ghost town soon.

What kind of morons would wait in line to get into a new grocery store. Especially a Giant. Unbelievable.

It's the excitement of what the store has in store for all the lovely people to see. Also, is somebody being stupidly hypocritical on FFXU again?

Come by one of my stores sometime. They're REAL grocery stores. Then you'll understand why people would wait in line for a grand opening of a grocery store.

Giant will dress to impress for a few weeks, then it's back to the same old shit; no cashiers, rotten meat and chicken bones tossed in the salad bar. If you want to save money, reweigh steaks on the produce scale as lettuce, then use the self service.

Taj Mahal type grocery stores are fine if you are a suburban housewife doing a major shopping and have the luxury of shopping when most people are working. If you are looking to stop off on a Saturday to pick up a few things for the game though, they aren't worth the hassle.

LOL! How smart is it to wait until Saturday to "pick up a few things for the game"? Stupid.

Meanwhile, I'm very excited because the opening of the new Giant brings the rest of us a month's worth of coupon savings. I already got my $10 worth of Week-1 discounts on Friday, and as we do about 60% of our grocery shopping at Giant, we'll be collecting the same for the rest of the month. Don't expect ever to lay eyes on the new store, but so far it's worked out really well for me.

I agree with you bill. I really liked food lion when they had a few stores around here and I still shop at food lion when Im at the beach. It was the perfect place to go when you needed a case of beer some chips, a bag of dog food and laundry detergent. I could be in and out of the lion in 7 minutes.

There is one fast food place in that shopping center - KFC/Taco Bell and that hasn't closed has it? What has closed?

What is going in where the Giant was?

Especially when you can order Peapod and have the groceries delivered to your front door.

Nope. Wrong. Totally worth the hassle.

I'd rather spend an hour to stop in at my stores for one item then to ever even get curbside pickup service or Peapod from Giant, Safeway, Harris-Teeter or any other so-called grocery store.

Wegman's is a nice operation but it isn't worth battling crowds for either.

Actually I can't think of anything in life that is worth waiting in line for. Nothing.

What place(s) is/are closed? I was just by there and all the restaurants are still open and seem to be doing good business.

Not Wegman's. Which is why home values go up an average of $10,000 when a Wegman's opens up nearby.

It really doesn't matter. The other businesses in that shopping center will do fine regardless. The Giant wasn't a big drawing point for people to go there.

Wow huge assortment of processed food/crack. 80% of the food in that place is processed shit. The organic fruit and veg are very expensive. Trader Joes is much better and you will live past 50 without getting cancer.

Aldi or Trader Joes, either one would be good there

Isn't Harris Teeter basically the mini-version of your stores? They're everywhere in Loudoun and quite well-known. The other stores are good, though. Including Shoppers.

Look at all the supercentenarians and ask, "Have they eaten processed food"? Chances are, they have. Even others who have lived older.

Yeah, some smoke cigars and have a drink a day. That's hardly the definition of healthy living. Some people live longer in spite of foolish choices.

A local youth club is inquiring about turning it into an indoor soccer facility, small sided because of the support poles. May also include an area for competitive cheer.

I'd put in a Best Buy and then some other store to fill in the other space.

When you get a life, learn to cook or start driving a car that you don't mind getting hit in the parking lot, let's see if you feel the same way. Maybe things will be different with the one they are opening in Kingstowne.

reductio absurdum. Because 'supercentenarians' have eaten processed foods is meaningless. One twinkie in 110 years is not what is being discussed.

Living past 100 is largely genetics. That said how much you eat is more important than what you eat. Low BMI has much better odds of living longer. You might want to educate yourself about processed foods, sugar and health. Its hard to eat a lot of processed foods without gaining weight because of the carbohydrates/sugars.
