Boosterthon: Worse than you Thought
Posted by: en63G ()
Date: June 09, 2015 10:12AM

The founder of Boosterthon, Chris Carneal, is a seminary graduate trained in church planting.

The spokesman for Boosterthon, Brett Trapp, has a degree in English and is active in fraternity affairs.

This photo comes from Trapp's Facebook page. "The ultimate Carneal moment" is how it was described.

What is going on here, Trapp seems to be orchestrating some kind of mad random dance? Why no women? Why are they all dressed more or less alike?

Could Boosterthon be a cult of some kind? Do we really want this in our schools?

Not sure what it is, but it is scary.

What happens next, group buggery, followed by a naked Boosterthon fun run?

Coming soon to Keene Mill ES. Under contract to FCPS.

You are paying for Boosterthon. It cannot survive without access to the schools. It eats into instructional hours. You paid for those, Booster uses them to raise funds and it keeps half the money.

So you are paying for this weird Brett Trapp Boosterthon dance moment. Nice.

The founder of Boosterthon, Chris Carneal, is a seminary graduate trained in church planting.

-- So what. Better than the bullshit art and philosophy degrees today's kids come out with.

The spokesman for Boosterthon, Brett Trapp, has a degree in English and is active in fraternity affairs.

-- So having a degree in English is necessarily a bad thing? Why pray tell should he have majored in according to your standards?

This photo comes from Trapp's Facebook page. "The ultimate Carneal moment" is how it was described.

-- Okay. Again, so what.

What is going on here, Trapp seems to be orchestrating some kind of mad random dance? Why no women? Why are they all dressed more or less alike?

-- What's going on? It's none of your fucking business.

Could Boosterthon be a cult of some kind? Do we really want this in our schools?

-- Want what, people passionate about helping schools raise money and making a profit along the way. Can't have that now can we.

I wouldn't say better, maybe just as bad. How does "church planting" qualify him to develop character, leadership, and fitness lessons?

I'd like to see some qualified, licensed educators in this company.

Sorry, Trapp put it on Facebook, FCPS contracts with his employer.

Go on glassdoor.com; former Booster-ites less than enthusiastic about the company. They make their profit off of tax dollars, it is called using instructional hours to conduct fundraising. No, I don't think we can have that.

If certain anecdotes, such as boys being told they will have to wear dresses and makeup if they don't get more pledges than the girls or a Boosterthon person arguing with a science teacher about evolution, the thing needs to be kept out of our schools.

Another question is why there's so little transparency especially when FCPS is crying out for more money. Let them be responsible with the money they have.

Boosterthon will benefit from its "threat" of making boys wear dresses if the girls get more pledges.

This fits into FCPS new acceptance of the transgender lifestyle. Boosterthon will use the "boys in dresses" as part of their character lessons.

The trips to Atlanta for PTA officials are nothing but wild orgies now featuring transexual encounters.

Fairfax is the new Babylon thanks to Boosterthon. Only a few such as Fr. DeCelles have the courage to speak out on this.

Yes, that's what Brett Trapp did for the 5 years it took him to graduate. After graduation he became involved in fraternity management. It is not surprising that "playing ookie cookie" and "sticking things in their butts" are a part of how Boosterthon works.

Now, just add transgender, and you will meet Boosterthon 2015-2016.

First, anyone who likes Boosterthon is an idiot just like Brett Trapp.

Second, it is in trouble in Fairfax, the House of Delegates has ordered an investigation due to the use of instructional hours. Fairfax County could lose both State and Federal funding due to Boosterthon.

Sorry but it is clear that this is Carneal's background. People need to know what they are getting into with Boosterthon, namely worthless evangelical drivel and profiteering at the expense of children.

A tool may be worthless, but a tool never humiliated children or made boys worry about having to wear dresses. A tool would never allow unqualified people into a school. A tool would never entice children with worthless, cancer-causing plastic toys.

Take it from one who knows-Chris Carneal, Boosterthon and Brett Trapp are bad news.

Ask around about what REALLY happens on those trips to Atlanta.

Both Marcus Simon and Kaye Kory have started the process by requesting information from FCPS. Specific concerns include use of instructional hours, insurance, access to school facilities, insurance, financial aspects of the contract, curricular conflicts (specifically religion in the Boosterthon lessons), Boosterthon's refusal to identify the authors of their curriculum, and the promotional video from Boosterthon where a teacher is mocked by students who then go on to praise Boosterthon people giving a rock concert.

Dick Saslaw's office is looking at the matter as well.

Call Simon's office. I did, and they confirmed that numerous allegations concerning Boosterthon have been made and are being investigated. That's all the proof I need.

A lot of misinformation being spread around. The best thing about Boosterthon is that ALL students are involved - even if they get NO pledges, they still get a prize and get to participate in the Fun Run.

The no-pledge prize is junk. And "get" to participate in the fun run? PLEASE.

The new model is going to follow the FLE curriculum. Explicit opt-in for EVERYTHING. Kids will bring home a Boosterthon opt-in form. If parents don't opt them in, they are opted out. That will put a kink in Boosterthon's operations, especially as the schools tire of having to make sure the opted-out kids aren't exposed to the daily prize and pledge sessions.

"This is like an ongoing guilt trip. One giant guilt trip for our kids. My kids can't handle it. I can't handle it - because I get the tears of 'oh my gosh, now I'm not going to get the [pencil eraser] bear at school' that was 15 cents. And the mom-of-the-year that I am [/sarc], I'm like, 'Well let's go to Party City and buy the bear' - while still giving money to the fundraiser, of course. But - that's not good enough because they want to be there with their friends where all bears are handed out..."

"Guilt trip."
Keep in mind that we're talking about the small children we love - some of whom still take afternoon naps.

But hey, it's lucrative for the school :/ (and for Booster Enterprises.)

Sounds to me like getting to experience a little taste of the real world should be good for these kids. How sheltered should the "small children we love" be? Graduate from high school/college and not even realize it's a cut-throat world out there? Same bunch that is against winners or keeping score in sports or recognizing academic achievement...

Instructional hours cost about $13.60 per hour per child. Two hours of Boosterthon during the school day for 1000 kids=$27,200. That is the cost of fundraising during the school day.

White Oaks is in hot water for Boosterthonning. They can have it! It will never ever come to my school. It's awful. It can't be banned in the state fast enough in my opinion. The past PTA president then hired to work at White Oaks (after an all expense paid trip to Atlanta on Boosterthon) will be in the middle of the lawsuit. Parents be forwarned about the large percentage Booster takes from your pledge.

You will reach him but it will not register. The elevator does go to the fifth floor but the elevator does not really go all the way to the top. He is a guy in a suit filling a chair in an office. Maybe try Twitter since that is all the rage. Perhaps shorter sentences......

He could be a Boosterthon shill, we have seen those, or a PTA/PTO shill, we have seen those too. Those indoctrination trips to Atlanta don't seem to be working out, people keep asking questions Chris Carneal and Brett Trapp can't or won't answer.

If only people put as much time in volunteering at schools as they do bitching on FFXU about Boosterthon maybe we wouldn't need Boosterthon.

Boostertoon is an empire building thing for principals, PTA/PTO, and assorted soccer moms.

More volunteers would mean more free labor for Boosterthon. Volunteers would have to hand out the prizes, record the laps, help with the fun run.

Chris Carneal and Brett Trapp live VERY WELL off of Boosterthon. They have the protection of FCPS-for now, at least. Many questions are being asked, and some people are getting nervous. For details, start at White Oaks ES.

If you want to get rid of Garza and Lockard we might have to pay them a year of salary anyway to do it. Look at their contracts.

SOMEONE needs to grow a pair. Fire them, let them sue. Thy are incompetent, the budget shortfall and lack of fiscal oversight shows that. I'd love to see them in court defending Boosterthon to a jury of Fairfax taxpayers.

^^^^^^^^^^They sue over these contracts all the time, they always get their severance pay, and it always costs a fortune for the taxpayer to pay all the legal bills for not fulfilling contractual obligations.

I agree that use of instructional hours to fundraise, particularly for a private corporation, is criminal behavior. Justifying this is ludicrous.

FCPS has an enrollment of roughly 186,000. The instructional time set by the state is at least 990 hours. 186,000 * 990 = 184 Million child hours.

If instructional time cost $13 per hour - FCPS would be paying 184 Million * 13 = $2.4 Billion for instruction - THAT IS THE ENTIRE FCPS BUDGET YOU ASSHAT!!! Where does the money come from to operate buses, power and clean the schools, pay non-instructional positions, etc etc etc

Get your facts straight before spewing misinformation

Pay them off, give them crappy references. Would love to see that pompous bitch Garza working at Target.

If something isn't done, people will be looking at $10,000 tax bills by 2017.

Get YOUR facts straight.

If you look back on earlier threads, that is exactly how the rough calculations were done and it was very clearly explained. It was the entire FCPS budget divided by how many kids in the school system. They calculate this out every year and use that number for a lot of things. Per pupil expenditure. That number was divided by 990 hours.
You can look at it in terms of straight staff salary also, but there is more to educating children than straight salary. There are buses, power, cleaning, etc.

Brett Trapp, who took 5 years to get a degree in English, is not that good at math.

What he does understand is the scrutiny Boosterthon is under right now. Fairfax must represent a HUGE cash cow for him. The Boosterthon people have been on here before, not surprised to see them back. I wonder if any will put in appearances at the school board debates?

I don't know that this happens in Ffx County, but am wondering if anyone knows if Boosterthon works the same way with Pre-K and Autistic classes as it does for K-6?

I mean, are Pre-K and austistic kids called upon to bring in pledges too?

Chris Carneal and Brett Trapp live VERY WELL off of Boosterthon. This year, Trapp has gone on vacations to Australia and Japan.

They'd get pledges from dogs and cats if they could.

Dalia Palchik, opposing Patty Reed in Providence for School Board, is also opposed to Boosterthon. That's enough of a reason for me to vote for her.

Maybe along the way that stuck up bitch Angela Atwater will get fired.

If Carneal & Trapp magically disappeared, they'd just leave a vacuum for other like-minded people to fill.

In Chicago, the fact that the Boosterthon people played with the kids and ate lunch with them was a cause for concern…

Excerpts from Booster's FB page:

  • 8:10-11:30 AM: Visit classrooms! The Boosterthon team applauds the teacher as the leader of the class.

  • 11:30-12:00 PM: Recess. The Boosterthon team plays kickball with the top class in the school

  • 12:00-12:30 PM: Lunch. Sometimes the Boosterthon team eats lunch with the teachers, the administration, together, or with the students. Today the Boosterthon team decides to eat lunch with the 3rd grade!

  • 12:31 PM: Continue visiting classrooms.

  • 2:30 PM: Visit all classrooms.

  • 3:01 PM: Afternoon carline. The Boosterthon team is out at carline...

It is obvious Boosterthon hires people for their kickball skills, not their abilities as teachers.

This is all designed to market to the kids and make them feel guilty if they aren't going with the program, which means hitting a whole bunch of people up for money. They are told to cooperate with what goes on during the school day. If Boosterthon is part of it, they feel like they have done something wrong if they don't sell pledges. It also creates conflicts at home if the parents are against calling up their friends, relatives, etc. for money. The kids start putting the screws on the parents, the parents say no, the kids go to school and feel like they are in trouble and not doing what is expected, etc.

Of course any of you bitching about Boosterthon can get off your fat asses, run for PTA office (and you don't even have to do that since there's always only ever one person who wants any position and they usually have to beg someone to take it), and find another fundraiser for the school. But that sounds a lot harder than bitching about it on some anonymous forum.

Alas, FCPS puts the figure at $0.
