Looking for remote/unique spots to take some photos
Posted by: HIJACKER ()

I'm looking for new spots around the Fairfax area to do some photo shoots. I was hoping to find some old cement, bridges, things with a a lot of graffiti, etc. I would prefer the spots to be somewhat remote so there is not a lot of distraction.

Any good suggestions? The places have to be on public property so I don't run into issues trying to get a signature for property release and consent, etc.

I would like to find something that would be enough space for auto photography, but most would be model photography, goth shoots, etc.

Here's a gallery for reference: http://gallery.sc-customs.com

While we are on the subject of photography, does anyone know the name of the process where the picture turns out with neon colors? I see a lot of it on Flickr.

There are many ways to do this, but the one you're probably referring to is a Photoshop filter called "Neon Glow" or "Glowing edges"

Go to pretty much any industrial park on a weekend. Lots of concrete and rails, plus loading docks. That'll work for both autos and h0t g0th g1r3773z shots.

LOL. I'll have to check out a few and see what I can find. Another other shooting locations around the area, I'm happy to look into if anyone knows of a few key spots.

That reminds me, any waterfalls within reasonable distance?

Cunningham Falls is only about 1 hour 15 minutes away, but last time I went (last summer) it was dry because of the drought. I'm sure it has water now.

There are some great hiking trails too (and you can swim in the lake).
