1) How much does a good one cost? Im willing to spend $1000
2) how far can they fly away from the controller?
3) How high do they go?
4) How long do the battery last?
5) Are the legal around here?
Is Amazon a good place to get one?

No drones in a 15-radius around National Airport. A big chunk of Fairfax, but not all of it.

On DJI's, cut two traces, add one jumper, and use a slightly altered startup sequence and you're good to go. Easy-peasy! Soon you'll be cruising that drone right under the Wilson Bridge and up the Potomac.

Toys R Us has the best drones and they are on sale right now. Don't listen to these guys who say to spend extra money on some name brand garbage.

They are quadcopters not drones, and they are much cheaper and better now which is why they are popular.
OP checkout the Tarantula x6, only $70 and it has almost a 1,000 ft range. Good starter drone.
I fly mine in restricted air space all the time, fairfax county park. No one has complained yet.

There's a video on youtube of a guy flying a drone from the parking lot of one of those hideous office buildings near Tyson's and he flies it over the parking lot and over one of the entrances to the mall. Dunno if it's legal or not, just know I saw it.

I fly my DJI from my backyard, it's pretty hard to see where the drone is coming from unless FCPD has a helicopter follow the drone until it lands. If it becomes an issue you could invest in a used S-200 system.

I want a cat-quadcopter!!! That thing is awesome. Can you please provide a link to buy it or plans to make one? Do they sell a fake cat or do you need to scrape one off the road somewhere?
