Paul Basdekis is the new principal of Riverside Elementary school. Is a 34 year old enough to be a principal of a title 1 elementary school?


Dear Riverside Elementary School Staff, Parents and Community:
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Paul Basdekis has been appointed as principal at Riverside Elementary School, effective Wednesday, July 1, 2015. Mr. Basdekis brings knowledge and varied experience to the school. He has been an elementary school teacher and has served as an assistant principal at two elementary schools in Fairfax County.
Mr. Basdekis earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English, with a minor in Psychology from Mount Saint Mary’s College in Newburgh, New York. In addition, he studied aboard at St. Clare’s College in Oxford, England and at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Mr. Basdekis holds a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from George Mason University.
Prior to assuming the position at Riverside Elementary School in July, Mr. Basdekis will be formally introduced in person to the staff and community. He will also be spending time at the school getting to know the students, staff and parents before he officially takes the helm. Please join me in welcoming Mr. Basdekis as the new principal of Riverside Elementary School. He is very excited to begin his work as the principal with this wonderful community of students, teachers, and parents!

It is not clear if he just studied at these places or if he got a degree. His whole "study abroad" claim could be based on nothing more than a couple of seminars.

But, that's why FCPS uses well qualified consultants like Eric Jensen and Flip Flippen to fill in these gaps. You can see the results Flip Flippen gets at Mount Vernon High School. He taught the teachers how to get the kids' hearts, meaning that then the teachers would have their heads.

He'll have his work cut out for him.

Flip Flippen? Who names their kid that? That sounds like you’re cussing.

He taught for 7 years, the same grade level...became an assistant principal and now is going to run the school. THIS is why our schools are failing. I'm pretty sure the parent committee that asked for someone with experience expected more than 7 measly years in the same grade level.

Poor guy is nothing more than a washed out minor league ball player that had to make a living somehow and, sadly, there are so many teachers in education like this--they don't love teaching, they used it as a backup to the career they really wanted.

He is Emotional Cripple but most gay principals are like this in the county. I have no problem with gay people but the principals in the county can be assholes.

Why are you so butt hurt? Let's see..

- Has a degree and presumably masters degree
- Spent several years as an educator
- Worked in an administrative leadership role preparing him for his current role

You are crazy. This guy is going to work his tail off to do something to help kids and the community. Drive by the school, I bet his car is there late at night. I know him from Forest Edge, you are beyond lucky to have him. Back up career? I have met few people more committed and interested in helping kids. Quit hating before you know him, he will change your school. Be sure to issue an apology when he does.

He was vice principal at Fort Hunt. He was a total tool. Almost fell asleep during a parent meeting we had with him. Was totally not interested in children with special needs.

Yaw'l don't be talkin' bout Ms. Tyler now Suga. She ain't got no doctorate like I do. The new principal will be just fine now. Those kids will go to Whitman and then Mount Vernon. They're screwed anyway you look at it.

Surely you are not a teacher in a school let alone a school like this. Do you have nothing better to do with your time than to write nasty comments about someone you don't even know? West Potomac was principal at 30 or 31. Ask parents of kids who go there or went there how the school is now.

Get the boomers OUT OF THE WORKFORCE. They are what's holding up this country. Toss em in the ocean!

I'm wondering why no one who had a bunch of crap to say about this principal has not had anything to say about the success the school has experienced since he took the helm.

Oh sure, I'll bet its a real success story.
