GMU Police Speeding
Posted by: ConcernedCitizen ()

Was out for an evening walk at GMU, when I saw not one, but two GMU police Cruisers going well over the 20MPH speed limit. Let me try that, and I'd get a ticket in no time, but those assholes feel free to flaunt the very laws they're supposed to being enforcing?

One was driving a 2014-15 Dodge Charger (very distinctive tail lamps) and the other was in a Ford Taurus.

GMU needs to keep these Barney Fifes in line.

Some of us use the 1.2 mile loop for exercise reasons, asshole. Besides, wouldn't be much action to be had, considering that the school is basically empty right now, and oh, by the way, I'm a middle aged mother of three.

Can you show me some kind of proof that they were going over 20 M.P.H?

Do your eyes have a radar detector?

Did you record a video with a lapsed time indicator and later measure out the area to calculate their speed?

The Dodge Charger with very distinctive tail lamps and a Ford Taurus have very sleek body styles and usually look fast in general...so it is a possibility they were going under the speed limit while you thought they were going above.

I also find it strange you didn't "hear" anything because when a car is speeding by you while you "walk" you can definitely hear it.

Nothing new, police abusing their powers as usual.

Any idiot can figure out when a vehicle is going twice as fast as others are on the same road. And where did I say I didn't "hear" anything? Of course I heard their engines and tires as they roared down the road.

The Charger I saw (and heard) at the intersection next to the Patriot Center, as it took a right, heading toward the police station. It blew through that intersection without slowing down, and then accelerated onto Patriot Circle.

The Second one was at the Rivanna River Lane and Patriot Circle intersection. The driver pulled up from Rivanna River Lane, then without coming to a complete stop, took a left onto Patriot Circle, where they accelerated at a very high rate of speed.

Look, if I did either of these maneuvers, I would have gotten a ticket. Stop being an asshole, and understand that the people who pay these idiots salaries are not going to stand idly by and watch them flaunt the laws we hired them to enforce. Next time I'll have my camera ready, and I WILL complain with GMU administration.

Radar detectors don't detect speed, dummy.

I am amazed that a generation with such a supposedly strong STEM education has trouble figuring out roughly how fast a car is travelling.

Had they used the same exact observation on you and issued a citation, you would kick, scream, and bitch all the way to court about it saying that they had no way of judging your speed and issuing a citation. Hell, even when they use radar/lidar detectors, people still bitch and want proof that the device was recently calibrated.

LOL. Fucking hypocrite.

Maybe they were responding to a call for service. Maybe they didn't want the bad guys to hear them coming so there were no sirens. Maybe there was a call that requires a quick action like a burglary alarm but doesn't allow for lights and sirens. Or maybe they are in the wrong and driving fast for no reason. Why do we as a public assume they are in the wrong. I don't know about you people, but when I'm in need of help I wouldn't hesitate to call 911. Officers as a whole are good people and hard workers. Of course there are bad apples in the police. Show me a work place where there aren't bad apples. You can't. The public is too quick to assume the worst in officers.

GMU cops have full police powers anywhere in the state of Virginia. They are allowed to drive at speeds above the posted speed limits if there is a reasonable need to do so. This is none of your business.
