I have seen more than one discussion board go down in flames under heavy trolling. Including some boards I really liked, like bobdylan.com, and dylanpool. Both were killed by trolls despite increasingly aggressive moderating (which tended to backfire - killing the spirit of the board and making the trolling worse).
I'm a longtime lurker, relatively recent poster at FU. Somehow this place has survived despite constant trolling, with what appears to be very minimal moderating.
I can only conclude that Cary has some strange Zen master's gift for (almost) invisibly but effectively moderating discussion boards.
PS - Some cunt stole my handle. Admittedly, I left myself open to the squatter by failing to register the name. Nonetheless, FU, asshole. If anyone gives a shit, be advised that whoever posts under the registered name "Eight Men and a Neckbeard" -- it ain't me, babe.

Had any of those last three been killed on their way to, say, volunteer at an orphanage, there would be a very, very different tone to the responses.
