Stop sign stop duration

People I know have told me recently they got tickets at stop signs because they didn't stay stopped for at least five seconds. Anyone else heard of this? Also does anyone know if the law requires that you be stopped for at least five seconds?

I thought it was 3. Only if I'm drunk or high will I make sure to stay for a long time.

I heard the five seconds was for red lights, not stop signs.

A stop sign is a VERY simple thing. It tells you to stop - COMPLETELY.

Not rolling stop, California stop, Half stop or any other style of stop that fails to come to a complete and total stop.

Failure to obey this traffic sign or any other can result in being issues a summons.

UNDERSTAND NOW? ARE WE CLEAR?

No 5 second rule. You stop, then you go.

You get one second off the 3-second rule for every time you cussed the driver in front of you at the stop.

If you stop long enough to post in the forum you should be good to go.

I'm pretty sure there are several cops on this forum, so I wonder what are the requirements of being posted in a neighborhood?

I know cops probably have better things to do, but it's just really annoying that I follow the rules and people run stop signs 24/7 with no penalty.

There are several stop signs in my neighborhood and if cops were near them they would be writing tickets all day! People sometimes don't even hit the brakes or they are going about 40 mph in a 25 mph zone and tap their brakes and go; this is at all hours of the day!

It drives me more nuts when an idiot does a complete stop for the five second count and then at the next stop sign where they are turning they do a california roll while placing their car in a 45* angle!

^I call these church drivers because they pick and choose where and when they want to follow the law.

AND WHAT IS UP WITH THE PEOPLE THAT STOP WHEN THE STOP SIGN REACHES THE REAR OF THEIR CAR?!

Some times I want to be a cop just to give these people tickets...

Just exercise good judgement to be safe. If you don't have good judgement, you shouldn't be on the roads.
