Why would federal funding be pulled? There is already anti-discriminiation policy in place. We're facing another 100m budget shortfall, this will easily add another cool mil to it. Expensive consultants brought in, admin training for all FCPS employees, form changes to reflect new policy. Elizabeth is the only one with her head on straight.

This is the way I see it-

You contact these people and tell them parents are sending out bills to students and parents for things they don't have the right to be billing for & threatening them to pay up, scalping the other parents for thousands of dollars on things carrying the school system's name, and that administrators are not following the state laws and school regulations on these issues and not watching out for parents and students, and they screw around with it for years and try to hide public records. Yes, the music booster club fiasco. The biggest mess in the history of FCPS.

You contact them and tell them that their administrators are taking money that is supposed to be used for the children and spending it on fancy restaurants, parties, presents and flowers for staff, parking tickets for instructors, massages, "retreats" at professional baseball games, and overnight meetings at luxury local hotels, and they screw around with it for years and/or don't follow up and/or get back to you.

You notify them that a staff member socked the taxpayers hundreds of $'s for a luxury hotel room and about $150 in excess per diem, and they recoup $89. You point out that staff are paying twice what they should on plane tickets to conferences, no answer.

Somebody doesn't know if they are a boy or girl and thinks they have more rights in the bathrooms than 99.9% of the population and they are on it within weeks. Days. Hours. It's an emergency.

Hello. A very strange set of priorities.

Financial management is important, yes. But not an excuse for the denial of fundamental civil rights.

Her eye rolling, head-bobbing, lip curling, "you go girl" statements were just over the top grandstanding. In no way characteristic of responsible leadership.

Watch the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0w7SZI_swo

Schultz in this meeting is anything but congenial. During her statements she soaks in the applause from her ignorant fans -- the same rude people who heckled McElveen and McLaughlin so terribly. The fact that nobody interrupted Schultz but board members speaking in favor of the language change were drowned out so often demonstrates not that there is a huge wave of opposition to this change in Fairfax County, but that there is an organized, ignorant, group of cave people in Fairfax County who know nothing about procedure, decorum, or decency but prefer to act as a mob instead. Schultz encouraged this. Nobody treated her this way -- because the people who supported the measure are decent, fair, and polite. The Schultz and Reed supporters are the ones who get in your face.

This is not New Jersey, this is Fairfax County. Virginia. Grow up a bit. Get an education. Act like an adult for once.

You try having YOUR right to access public records denied and watching thousands of parents and children having THEIR rights under the state educational laws denied and violated and we will talk about the implications denying fundamental rights. My eyes are rolling and my lip is curling right now. I have been having seizures for over four years and nobody gave a flying fig. The Discrimination Policy is based on veryu flawed logic, unless you believe that people are born freakish and can't help themselves or exercise self control in a public setting or go and receive professional help.

I waiting for the day, alcoholics become a protected class .. they can't help themselves and AA just won't cut it for them ... they need to be added to the welfare rolls for sure and if you refuse to hire a drunk, then you're just a HATER!

Civil rights has nothing to do with how one dresses or how they behave sexually ... that is a person choice.

On the other hand, nobody chose to be born black and history has demonstrated bias against blacks, from slavery through Jim Crow laws.

If I were black, I believe I would be extremely offended that these other groups of people are claiming to have gone through the same kind of suffering and deserve anything.

We've moved away from what it natural and acceptable to protecting deranged and unnatural behavior. If we cared about these people, we would offer them help, not accomodation.

California has been including transgender students in its protected classes for two years now, across the entire state. *Show me* where any problem with trans students abusing privacy in bathrooms and locker rooms has become a problem there.

How would I feel, in the situation you described? I couldn't care less.

Kids these days have seen everything. It's your job as a parent to help them develop the maturity to handle situations like the ones presented by trans students, most of whom at this age haven't had gender reassignment surgery, using bathrooms and locker rooms appropriate for their gender of identity. In all honesty, your kids are probably more mature than you are about these issues and the kids of the hecklers at that meeting last night would probably be more embarrassed by their parents' behavior than by a trans student in the bathroom.

Even Schultz admitted that the important matter is less the bathroom and locker room issues, but rather (for her at least, and seemingly for her cheering section) the administrative and facility costs associated with managing the accommodations granted by this protection. Which is complete bullshit because these costs are nothing when compared to either the loss of federal funds or the mental damage and civil rights violations inflicted on transgender students in the absence of specific protections.

Watch it again.

What she tried to say (ineloquently) was that she wanted her supporters to hear what was going to happen (and act on it afterwards). She knew how the vote would go. What she did not want was a closed session. She didn't want her people to get so out of hand that the chairperson could kick everyone out. Schultz wanted an audience for her grandstanding, and wanted the other board members to be on the receiving end of the heckling that her supporters hurled at them. Her half-hearted statement about showing McElveen the same courtesy that was shown here came way too late to be meaningful. That was just lip service. Schultz is a manipulator and showed that she is willing to help build up a mob to promote her (or someone's) agenda.

It's embracing perversion. It's removing local control of school systems without any law to support the federal government's intrusive mandates. But since you think allowing trannies to pick whatever bathroom they want is a basic civil right, you've pretty much established you're a fucking retard so I expect you'll continue to be ruled by your own unhinged feelings rather then common sense and moral fortitude.

Liberals and their feels = death of America.

Let's be specific here.

- What right to access public records was denied, specifically?
- Which of the parents' and children's rights under state education laws are being denied and violated, specifically?

I have no doubt that your eyes are rolling and your lips curling, and that they've been doing so for four years. I suspect your mouth is foaming as well.

If you think that protections for transgender students is about "a handful of people" who "want to use the bathroom for the opposite gender" then you may be too far gone and I can't fix your ignorance or psychosis. All I can suggest is that you question deeply why you want so badly to toss these trans students aside. Reflect on your own selfishness. Ask yourself why you must advocate hurting others in order to protect your imaginary self interest.

I think you're off track and don't understand the psychology of gender identity. Not your fault, you just haven't tried to understand it yet. There's still time.

Protecting classes of people is based on records showing a history of discrimination against those classes. Any class can crop up in the future, including medical history, and alcoholism may very well someday be a protected status. But protections are not the same as entitlements and that's where you seem to be confused.

It is actually the notion that allowing trans students and faculty to use the bathroom and other gender-assigned facilities that don't match physical bodies would trample on other students' privacy, security, and dignity (to use Schultz' words) that appears to be based on what you describe: the assumption that people can't help themselves or exercise self control in a public setting. There are no threats to privacy, security, or dignity presented by these proposed protections. Schultz' argument is what we'll call a straw man, a ruse to persuade feeble minded knee-jerk bigots to support conservative causes. Yes, even this is a set up not just for Schultz's re-election bid but for the general election next year. So that makes Schultz herself a tool as well.

Civil rights addresses everything: how people dress, how they behave sexually, what they choose to believe and say, how the government treats them, whether they can film police behavior, everything. Everything Americans have a right to do is covered by civil rights. It is precisely our choices that are addressed by civil rights. However, gender identity is not a choice and you seem to have a hard time understanding that. I sympathize and hope you do at some point start to see the fault in your attitude.

"If I were black" -- you have some gall. If you were black, you would probably understand better the nature of suffering and would likely have a better grasp of the issue being discussed here.

To your final statement: What makes you think that no help is being offered to trans students? Why do you believe that accommodation and protection are not forms of help? Why do you cling so tightly to such a narrow view of what is natural and what is unnatural? Surely God made everyone the way they are -- including trans. Consider that a bit and get back to us.

You just don't recognize logic.

If you are a tran you can find plenty of ways to adjust other than expecting the rest of the entire school system to accomodate you and infringing on their
privacy. Non-trans have rights on certain things and they figure out ways to deal
with other than expecting the entire world to revolve around them.

Wow, those in favor of the policy change are really winning at the insults.
Insults are resorted to, when people can come up with a good argument.
I think Shultz was respectful, clear and coherent and supportive of her colleagues rights to their opinions.
She was not divisive and able to convince the audience to hear them out.
I don't think an insult can take away her dignity and professionalism there.

"This group has special privledges. The rest of you, deal with it!"

Our founding document protects the rights of individuals, not the rights of certain groups. It was not that it failed, but that the people allow the BTA to twist the intent of the Constitution and subvert it to their own liking.

Who is going to vote those board members out of office next time around?

Exactly what "special privileges" are being conferred here that you are referring to? It's not giving trans people more rights than you, it's giving trans people the same rights as you.

Infringing on what privacy? School toilet stalls have doors, right? Do you get angry that other girls infringe on your daughter's privacy? Trans girls are girls. So what's the specific problem here?

Kids with allergies are accommodated. Kids with diabetes. Dyslexia. Learning disabilities. Physical limitations like poor eyesight and hearing. These are aspects of one's self. So is gender identity. Look at it this way: Boys are accommodated every day -- who needs urinals? They could use toilets like everyone else. How much did that cost, I wonder? So don't consider trans kids special. They're kids, just like all the others are. Let them be who they are.

Schultz was disrespectful. Her strategic pauses were designed to whip up her crowd. She was not all that coherent but her position was clear, certainly. She had no choice but to support her colleagues' rights to their opinions, if she wanted to protect her own. She only asked her supporters to quiet down so the chairperson had no justification to kick everyone out and continue the meeting behind closed doors. Because Schultz is nothing without an audience.

The law very clearly protects classes of people. Nobody is twisting, misreading, manipulating, or subverting the Constitution here -- either the federal one or that of the Commonwealth. So stop trying to play that "Don't Tread on Me" card.

The only Board members who are shaking in their boots right now are Schultz and Reed.

Tell me how you are harmed by this? Then maybe I'll listen.

Boys don't have the right to enter the girls bathroom and visa versa .. what's your point?
It's interesting, intriguing at where were headed with all of this nonsense.

Trans-people ought to keep their urges to themselves. Plenty of boys would love to be able to enter the girls bathroom, but rules and societal norms keep them in check .. they keep their urges to themselves ... most do. If that can't be done by a Trans G, then obviously allowing them to express these urges by making special arrangements for them to use opposite sex bathrooms ... amounts to a special privilege and if they can't exercise self control like everyone else .. then yes they need help not accomodation ... I do not hate trans G people or any person ... I can find fault with others without outright hating them.

Well, giving transgender people rights wouldn't give girls the ability to enter boy's bathrooms or vice versa. There's no special privilege. It's just giving their gender priority over their sex.

For the record, these nondiscrimination measures have been introduced in other school systems in the country, without having the negative consequences that you have suggested would be a result.

I thought the gender policy was unnecessary intitailly. But then all the mouth-breathers and witch-hunters showed up at the FCPS Board meeting and proved me wrong. A policy is needed to counteract the family-value fascists....the same fascists that commit adultery, cheat on taxes, lie on financial aid forms, eat grapes for free in the grocery market, etc.

Maybe we should stop fighting each other (all of us that make less than 5 million a year...since this is apparently the going rate for the middle class nowadays)...and realize we're all getting the okie-doke from the extremely wealthy.

I support lgbt, but on my own terms. I think parents should have a say in what values they want to teach their children and nothing should be force fed. I'm starting to feel under attack just for being heterosexual with all the media bombardment telling me to accept this lifestyle choice (or else).

Let's bring some real family values back. It's not an ugly thing. It's why you probably chose to live in Fairfax County in the first place.

Thank you Ms. Schultz for advocating for family values.

We shouldn't discriminate against anyone ever.

We should hire excellent people to do excellent work and then let them do their job.

We should allow parents to parent and teachers to teach. Admin needs to manage schools and Dr. Garza needs to direct the entire system successfully through these bumpy times.

We should pay our teachers so they don't leave for a border system that pays more.

We should enter each school year with a reasonable budget that puts our money where our priorities are and we should never EVER cower to the threat of loss of funds from the Feds when we're doing what's best for us and ours.

When we DON'T cut something from the budget, we should have the data that shows why it's necessary and when we approve some amendment, we should see the price tag attached...always. She's asking for time to find out and she's denied. She's asking for the others to turn in their pay in a show of support for teachers, and she's denied. ?????

Elizabeth Schultz is all about those things and most of the others on the Board are simply unbelievable. Until you've watched the Board meetings on YouTube, you won't understand how disconnected and clueless the others truly are.

McElveen...Moon? What are these two doing on the board in the first place? I mean, seriously?
