April 24, 2015 – Last night, the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA) approved $90.9 million in funding for nine Fairfax County projects. The approval follows a month of public comment, a public hearing held at the NVTA offices in Fairfax and five town hall meetings held throughout Northern Virginia, including one held by Fairfax County at South County Government Center.

"NVTA's FY2015-FY2016 program provides funding for key transportation priorities in Fairfax County and throughout Northern Virginia,” said Sharon Bulova Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman. “These projects will improve congestion and travel options on major corridors. Thank you to the General Assembly for passing landmark legislation to generate additional regional revenue." .

"These regional funds are a critical component of the county's transportation priority plan. As Fairfax's representative on NVTA, I will ensure that these funds, as well as other state and federal funds, are invested wisely to provide the transportation infrastructure our residents expect and rely upon."

NVTA’s Two-Year (FY 2015-2016) Program includes the following projects the county requested:

Fairfax County Parkway Improvements (Study) - $10 million

Frontier Drive Extension & Braided Ramps - $2 million

Rolling Road Widening from Old Keene Mill Road to Franconia Springfield Pkwy - $5 million

Route 7 Widening over the Dulles Toll Road Bridge - $13.9 million

Route 28 Widening from the Prince William County Line to Route 29 - $5 million

Connector Bus Service Expansion – $6 million

West Ox Bus Garage - $20 million

Innovation Center Metrorail Station - $28 million

Route 1 Richmond Highway from Mt. Vernon Memorial Highway to Napper Road - $1 million. This is in addition to the $9 million in federal funding approved for the project by the Authority in January 2015
.
In addition to the projects requested by the county, funding was approved for several projects requested by other agencies that will benefit the county, including:

East Elden Street Improvements & Widening Project (Town of Herndon) - $10.4 million

Franconia-Springfield Platform Expansion (VRE) - $13 million

8-Car Train Traction Power Upgrades to the Metrorail system Located in Virginia (WMATA) - $8.99 million

On January 28, 2014, the Board of Supervisors approved over $1.4 billion in new transportation projects as part of Fairfax County’s Transportation Priorities Plan (TPP) The plan covers FY 2015-through FY 2020. This plan includes about 220 projects, including new roads, transit projects, sidewalks, and bike lanes.

The Fairfax County Parkway study includes whether to widen the parkway from two lanes to three lanes in each direction from Rolling Road to I-66. The study also includes eliminating traffic lights at Whitler's Creek Drive, Reservation Drive, Roberts Road and adding cloverleaf exits to eliminate bottlenecks at Huntsman Blvd., Lee Chapel Road, Old Keene Mill Road, Burke Center Parkway and Popes Head Road. These improvements would enable traffic to flow non-stop from Rolling Road to Route 50 and the speed limit to be raised to 55mph. $1 million of this study is also allocated to environmental impact. Note this is only a study. Construction would not begin until funding is in place and any environmental impact is remediated! 2017 at the earliest!

Ok... so9 how does that STUDY cost $10 million? Wouldn't $900,000 for the "STUDY" a piece of paper with "suggestions" be enough?

the mother fucker democrats only approve it when Mexicans and Blacks are running the jobs

and it wasn't "approved" at such a fast pace before because it's borrowed money

and this $10,000,000 to "study" - there are political families in Fairfax who HAVE A LONG FUCKING HISTORY of continually being on these projects. just read the paperwork

By far, the biggest waste on that list is West Ox bus garage - $20 million.

Because they don't have any competent mechanics, if there's anything even slightly complicated wrong with a bus, the County sends it out to a private garage.

The current facility is more than adequate for changing light bulbs or the occasional tire.

It's only taxpayer money! Besides, these are my campaign donors we are talking about - they've already earned every cent of that $10M getting me elected year after year.

I always thought that South Run Park should have expanded to there.
