When the rate stays the same, but housing assessments rise, you see an increase in the actual tax payment each taxpayer is making. The average increase around the county under the proposed budget (it will be adopted on Tuesday) is $185.

I talked to some folks who have seen their taxes go up as much as $2000 in the last three years.

The Board of Supervisors stops at NOTHING to get more money to waste.

One of the latest atrocities: the Department of Code Compliance has now positioned itself as the "go to" office for ALL County Services, and is seeking extra funding as a result.

Code Compliance director, Jeff Blackford, cited the example of a resident who needed information on trash pickup. Small problem. Code Compliance has been "mystery shopped" by Mason residents who don't like Code Compliance's erratic enforcement practices. Not one received any "value added"-Code Compliance gave them the number for trash pickup. Hardly a justification for more funds for Code Compliance.

Brian = OP got it

When tax assessments dropped between 2008 and 2011 I don't recall you touting how massive of a tax break we all were getting. Board of supervisors doesn't control assessment rates, and they are keeping rate flat. Much ado about nothing.

Taxes will always go up and your rights will go down just as long as people keep voting the same people back into office. it's the democrats and republicans. Don't just Blame one party.
