Never Forget the Sinking of the MV Sewol and the 304 Who Perished

The sinking of the MV Sewol occurred on the morning of 16 April 2014 en route from Incheon to Jeju. The Japanese-built South Korean ferry capsized while carrying 476 people, mostly secondary school students from Danwon High School (Ansan City). The 6,825-ton vessel sent a distress signal from about 2.7 kilometres (1.7 mi) north off Byeongpungdo at 08:58 Korea Standard Time (23:58 UTC, 15 April 2014). In all, 304 passengers died in the disaster. Of the approximately 172 survivors, many were rescued by fishing boats and other commercial vessels that arrived at the scene approximately 30 minutes before any South Korean coast guard or ROK Navy ships. There are ongoing recovery efforts by the South Korean government, the United States Navy, civilian groups, and individuals.

That indeed was a sad event.

All of those young children, and teenagers, and young adults looking for a little fun and diversion, and then catastrophe.

It really can happen to anyone, anywhere, at anytime.

Unfortunately, however, starting a thread on this website is just inviting the responses from mentally disturbed individuals, who take delight in the suffering of others.

or the USS Cole

who had fathers doing military service in an oil rich area the USA had helped build (ie, exxon, chevron, mobil)

it was bombed it at port and some of the men didn't come home

NEVER FORGET

chevron, an American oil company, isn't pumping oil in the gulf or Alaska: BP is - a fucking foreigner owned company - drilling our oil

obama said "less dependance on foreign oil" he meant - get a little more money for blacks by letting anyone with a drill steal oil on American soil

Tomorrow is the anniversary of the Alfred P. Murrah Building bombing in OKC. It would be a good day for a road trip. There must be a Whitecastle between here and there.

I do feel sorry for them - 304 poor dupes who remained in their cabins as ordered. I was aboard a destroyer through some miserable storms about that age (17), and the feeling of your ship going down is terrifying.
