Niggers don't go in the woods. They've evolved. The woods are safe except for snakes and the bunnyman (who makes his yearly appearance tomorrow night)

Its true, the great majority of hikers dont carry arms, they are in a lot better shape then most thugs and can out run and get away. They are peacefull people who always have been in their own world with nature , their God and peace in their own way.

Some however are street smart, they understand that man can be unhuman and they pack heat but they never let "Susie" know there carrying.

Tell the hunters in the GW along the AT. This is Virginia, not somewhere else.

I remember this one. It was in 1996 when firearms were banned in the Shenandoah National Park. However, in 2010 the law was changed and now it's legal to carry.
Hunting in the SNP is still prohibited.

A gun is not recommended gear for a thru-hike and you'll be hard pressed to find anyone carrying one from GA to Maine (probably no one). it's unecessary weight, and when you're hiking that far you're cutting as much unecessary weight as possible. walking 15 miles a day for weeks at a time, you'll be wishing that 2-3 pound gun was extra food instead. even something light like a cell phone starts to seem like a hassle on extended hikes. and you wont need a gun if you just use common sense like bear etiquette, camping a mile or 2 from any roads and 50 yards off the trail. you're safer out there in the woods than you are walking on your own neighborhood streets.

Unless you have a permit for every state then it is illegal to cross state lines with a firearm in most states. Everybody would know because you'd have to have it holstered and you know a whiney little bitch liberal is going to rat.

Retired law enforcement with the proper paperwork don't need permits in any state, and there's no reason to have a weapon holstered.

And you're dreaming if you thing there are border checkpoints between states.

Back in the early 1980's a couple of hikers were murdered on the AT in South Western Virginia. The murderer was arrested and he did 20 years or so locked away for his deed.

Then he was released -

Not long after the murderer was cut loose he went back to the AT. He attempted to kill 2 more hikers. He was arrested again. Locked away, and the last 2 hikers are o.k.

I'm not a hiker, but I camp. I also carry.

"Susie" is one of the liberal friends of a hiker I know who packs a sneaky lil Glock snub. She is one of several libs he hikes and camps over night with and he shares many of their views and love of hiking and nature except the right to carry for self defense. He is a very responsible person.

I asked him what "Susie" or his other lib gun hating friends would say if she or they found out he was packing. "They would Not Like It" was all he said in a understated tone.

As far as "Hikers" response, this guy would agree with you hiking alone on the AT on a thru hike. "Hiker" says he stays off the trail and away from parking areas and he goes as lightly as he can. Good advice if your thru hiking alone.

The hiker I know goes on weekend hikes with a group, they are in their late 40's and 50's they talk have a fire cook and enjoy the hike and camp out with out any booze coming along with them And he's aware and armed if any creep invades the group with deadly intentions. A good smart man I feel he indeed is.

Look up the phrase "trail gun." It's not all about defending yourself against other humans, you have frequent animal attacks as well.

If anything, get a Bond Arms .410/45LC derringer. One barrel loaded with 45LC, the other barrel loaded with .410 for snake defense.

The simple fact is that this kind of "attack" situation is so exceedingly rare it's almost zero. You're in far greater danger of being attacked at your local grocery store or in your workplace. If you're really uncomfortable hiking & camping without a gun, go for it, but that level of paranoia strikes most as someone who's just afraid to be way out in the woods alone. It's dark, scary, and there's alot of spooky noises. I get it. While most distance hiker concerns are tick bites, contaminated water sources, or being stuck in a bad spot during a lightning storm, you can worry about some armed assailant lurking miles from civilization, waiting to steal a backpack full of energy bars and dirty clothes.

As far as animal threats, not really any on the east coast. The only dangerous one are black bears, which scare easily and generally avoid places where they hear humans. You definitely should hang your food at night though, there's real chance they'll wander near your camp if it is quiet and they smell even a tiny amount of food.

I've hiked this trail too. Hung all the food and toiletries in a bag over a tree limb and at 3 a.m. a bear was sniffing around. All I had was a 3 inch pocket knife. We stayed quiet in the tent and the bear left in a few minutes when it realized the food was too high in the air for it to reach. I like eesh's
recommendation about the Bond trail gun.

I was hiking the Grayson Highlands last spring, when suddenly I encountered my greatest fear: the black mamba. It cornered me, lifted itself 3 feet off the ground, and lunged for my neck. Luckily I'm a teabagger, and was carrying my AK-47 with me. I tore off a few rounds and that snake turned around and ran off like a pussy.

It's not just here - I've spent most of 2 years, on and off, in the bush in Africa, most of it camping, and I've never felt the need for a firearm. I've had lions, leopards, and the odd elephant pass by the tent, and I've come on mambas, cobras, and puff adders. And still the most dangerous animals are mosquitos.

I'm careful when I hike and I keep my bush knife where I can find it in the dark, but anybody who thinks they need a gun should probably consider staying home.

I spend some time on the AT every year or so. No "weapons" per se. Just a couple of knives - more for utility than self-defense purposes. And some bear pepper spray. Which is really overkill as I have come across bears and they just run like hell whenever they see me. Never had a problem.

There is a difference between brave and stupid. As for me, I will meet death on equal terms and be ready for battle. On the AT, I prefer my SIG 220C and one spare magazine. Good for bear and man alike.

The best trail gun is A Smith & Wesson Mountain gun in .44 Magnum first two cylinders loaded with snake shot, The last 4 with 300 grain hard cast soilds. Carried in a open Don Hume thumb snap holster under the jacket with a concealed handgun permit in the wallet and a ammo dump pouch with 6 more 300 gr. solids. Just hiking around mostly, and camping now and then.

Some of these people posting here must think law abiding citizens get a concealed handgun permit to rob people on hiking trails. Like a criminal would really need that.. What a joke. You don't want a gun on a hike its your business and if you carry its your business and your right also.

Now when I was younger, 40 years ago it was a different world and the number of crazies were much smaller and no I never carried a gun in the wild , unless I was hunting in season with all licenses.

The only reason to carry a gun on the AT is if some liberal who hates America is there and tries to take it away. Now, these chances are high. Lots of young stupid college kids on the trail who don't have a family of their own yet or a career so they are still delusional to reality. Try and be patient with them and give them some education. Tell them about the constitution, it may be their first time, so have mercy on them. Otherwise, stand your ground and exercise your rights. Then you have simply explained the Constitution to a liberal. No more questions.

I tried to hike a portion of the AT with a .50 cal air cooled machine gun. Between packing the camping supplies, the machine gun, and 1000 rounds of ammo it kicked my ass.

So I went back to my car and smoked a cigarette.

Clearly not Burke Lake. And if you can't hit your target with iron sights, at scope distance your subsonic round is going to be underpowered. But I bet you got wood.

Still and all, not a bad air rifle.

Fire is much bigger hazard on the Appalachian trail, much more than than encountering armed criminals. Brush fires, out of control campfires, cooking stove malfunctions, there's a much higher risk of being burned out there, and it happens every year.

Do you clowns carry fire extinguishers with you on your hikes? Well you should- better to be safe than sorry according to your logic.

But no of course you don't... because the odds of you sustaining burn injuries is so unlikely, that carrying a fire extinguisher would be retarded. Just like carrying a gun around would be.

Yes, i do carry a fire extinguisher into the woods. Actually called an E-tool, or for someone with no experience (ahem!), a shovel. A full bladder comes in handy as well as does camping near a water source so that you can observe good fire safety. You see, in the woods, there is no fire deapartment, no EMT, no wi-fi, or Costco....OR FUCKING POLICE DEPARTMENT!

I've been camping and hiking in Virginia and elsewhere my entire life. I always carry a loaded S&W .38 and have done so over 35 years. I carry it where I can get to it but it's not visible. My knife is very visible however. I never had to use the gun and I've encountered plenty of black bears and rattlesnakes, and a couple possibly rabid smaller animals.

The victim (D) shot at the huge Diamondback Rattler with a pellet gun and was instantly attacked. His screams alerted another hiker (R) armed with a .38 special and snake shot who easily killed the serpent , but the victim could not be saved. Authorities think the snake native to the Western US was brought into the park by a illegal from out west and left on the trail as a gift to the American people. They theorize that he thought hikers may enjoy some Rattlesnake Cowboy chili.

A WWII surplus flame thrower is a great way to deal with those pesky snakes. Set the flame thrower on a medium setting, and engage the offending snake. A slow roast on the top, and flip the snake, and finish off by roasting the belly.

A chilled bottle of Virginia white wine, and a crisp greens salad with a mustard vinegar dressing, rounds off the days hike with a tasty supper.

LOL, what a shock! One might almost conclude that there's no legitimate reason to carry said gun.

I've owned cars that I regularly checked the pressure in the spare tire but never got a flat and needed to use it. Never used any of the fire extinguishers I carry in my vehicles either, and never needed the smoke alarms in my home.

Thanks but I'll continue packing a gun on the trail. If nothing else I get a better workout from the additional weight. Be prepared.

Weren't there a couple lesbians slaughtered on the trail a few years back?

Good thing they didn't have guns, otherwise somebody could have gotten hurt.

Specious reasoning is truly an art in your hands guntards. With that logic where don't you go with your gun? Son's recital, pack heat. Doctor's office, gotta have my gun. My prostitutes motel room, well that one you might have an argument for. It all points to irrational fear of life. You are so busy being afraid of life you don't ever live it. I feel bad for you. Then again, you stay in your mom's basement all day anyways so perhaps there are far greater issues going on in your mind.

Great analogies there, Einstein! You have a better chance of getting a flat tire, a car fire, and a house fire on the same day than you needing your dopey gun while hiking.

Good luck with that additional workout though! You probably need it. :-)

If you're just day hiking or going out for the weekend your gun is fine. But you won't find AT thru-hikers carrying guns on a 2000+ mile hike. Best rule of thumb for distance hiking: if it's not something you'll need every day, don't bring it.

I hope I never need the spare tire, fire extinguishers, or the gun. There are many potential situations where a firearm could be useful that don't entail shooting other humans. For example signaling for help, shooting game for food (admittedly not as applicable in VA), and defending against malicious wildlife. In 30+ years of hiking and camping there have been 2 or 3 instances where I heard a bear outside my tent, and once where I was charged by a probably rabid fox. I never came close to actually shooting in any case.

I do actually carry a some extra weight in things I never need besides the gun, but I've been doing so for years and can handle the additional workout.

Sadly, you believe this drivel. You would be surprised how many people you encounter daily are quietly packing a firearm for defense.

Your perspective will change if one of them happens to be there to save your sorry ass one day.

You are retarded. You are more likely to die 500 other ways in life before ever being a victim of violent crime. You like to piss your pants. We get it.

I chose to live life without an irrational fear that I will be one of the 1 in 120,000 people who will die in a violent crime in the US and instead actually be part of civilization. You are a pansy.

So in other words you're saying that guns, even in your example to the point of including violent crimes committed with them (which absolutely dwarf things like accidental shootings of children and mass casualty events which receive so much attention from the anti-gun side), really aren't that big of a deal in the scheme of things.

I was up skyline 3 times in May hiking Marys Rock , Skyland area, Big Meadows.
Up Marys Rock and Big Meadows I saw some thru hikers. As said in this thread
by others non guns, too much weight to pack on the AT. I believe that. And of all the hikers I saw maybe one or two carried a gun. I did not.

the bottom line is that people do carry CCW handguns on the AT , In the Skyline Drive and other areas. WHERE Is THE PROBLEM? It does not EXIST other then Liberals hate of guns. There no Trail shootings of people by CCW carrying legal hand gun owners! Non existent situation . GREATLY EXAGGERATED By gun Control FREAKS,That's Right FREAKS! Read all the rants pro and con ..but where is the trouble? Non existent but YES some have been killed by cold blooded killers up there. WITHOUT A CCW and NOT LAW ABIDING CITIZENS.

The most dangerous people up on that AT trail or any other place are Liberals that want to take the right's of the American people away.

As "SMOKEY THE BEAR" TRUE PATRIOT OF THIS NATION AND NATIVE BORN TO ITS SOIL WOULD SAY!

" ONLY YOU THE LIBERALS AND SOCIALISTS POSE A THREAT TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND THE BILL OF RIGHTS THAT HAVE PROTECTED THE PEOPLE SINCE THE FOUNDING OF THIS GREAT NATION"

"they pack heat but they never let "Susie" know there carrying."

"if you want to see some crazy shit do a google image search for "everest corpses"

"Unless you have a permit for every state then it is illegal to cross state lines with a firearm in most states. Everybody would know because you'd have to have it holstered and you know a whiney little bitch liberal is going to rat."

"And to think I head into the woods to get away from people like you"

"A WWII surplus flame thrower is a great way to deal with those pesky snakes. Set the flame thrower on a medium setting, and engage the offending snake. A slow roast on the top, and flip the snake, and finish off by roasting the belly."

"Some of these people posting here must think law abiding citizens get a concealed handgun permit to rob people on hiking trails."

" Best rule of thumb for distance hiking: if it's not something you'll need every day, don't bring it"

"Sadly, you believe this drivel. You would be surprised how many people you encounter daily are quietly packing a firearm for defense."

"Your perspective will change if one of them happens to be there to save your sorry ass one day."

"Metro is exactly the place to pack heat for defending yourself."

Goodnight To All we will hash it out again. In The ALL AMERICAN WAY of FREE SPEECH.. "Amendment 1" Don't ever forget it! Or Amendment 2 either!

S&W makes a number of very nice lightweight .38 specials. They are only a few ounces, and I carry one with my ankle holster without any issues.

The only drawback of this set up is that I cannot wear a mini skirt and CC.

Important when I switch out and go Transgender on Friday nights, and hang in the "Boys Room" at a few clubs I swing through.

The niggers in that photo love the fact the libtards don't carry firearms. Get on your knees libtards and suck it just like in your dream. Consider it your liberal duty.

LOL. We've established this already, Einstein. Thanks for "clarifying" though.

It's not a problem -- it's just funny. Why do you interpret us laughing at you as a "problem"?

absolutely not go to the trail without defense if a nigger doesn't rob you, or the seldom but possible maniac, an animal might - or worse your girlfriend!

so i'd never register with any gov. for a weapon, like the forefathers of the country i'd hide it,

i'd probably be lazy and head out with no weapon what the hell, and pick up a nice walking stick on the trail

i hope all the park visitors haven't taken all the good walking sticks! don't take the forest with you!

i carry one of these. it's way deadlier and more accurate than a small firearm at 50 yards.
