Centreville, VA – Centreville High School’s Drama Club promises laughter, action, and thought provoking ideas during this year's spring play.

"This is a fun play," director Valerie Ward said. "We have good women and bad girls."

Set for 7 p.m. April 8-11. 2015,in the high school gymnasium, the drama club will present the comedy, "The Vagina Monologues," by Eve Ensler.

"Things are going well," Ward said of the student production. "We had some bumps in the road -- like the two weeks of snow where we missed practices -- has been hard to overcome."

However, Ward said her students are ready for opening night and prepared to offer an entertaining production.

Ward said each year she must choose scripts based on how many students she has.

"I've had a cast of 14 women, and in other years, I've had only 10 or 12," Ward said.

This year Ward has a cast of 18 students, many of whom are freshmen and/or students who are new to drama club.

"It's been fun watching them learn their places and where they feel comfortable. Some of them, I'm still having to say: 'Speak up!' but they're coming into to it," Ward said of her new students.

Seniors Ashley Scheffer, who plays Delfina, and McKenzie Roth, who is Catalina, said they have enjoyed helping the new actors learn the ropes but also making them feel welcome.

"We like to a create a family feeling and adopt the new members into our family," Scheffer said.

It's also interesting to witness students' progression from year to year, Ward said.

Scheffer said the students have made this year's production their own.

"We put our own spin on it and made it more exciting and more ... us," Scheffer said.

The students' director agreed.

"It's a really good opportunity to see some kids coming into themselves and learning a new trade -- and it's a cool chance to see kids grow," Ward said.
