Walney Bridge Closure

I saw VDOT put up signs indicating the Walney Road will be closing at the bridge on April 13. Going to push a lot of extra traffic onto 28 (and 50).

Is this project on schedule? Will it re-open as promised on September 1? That is only 4 weeks away.

The project web site says December 2015 completion.

Like most VDOT projects, 90% of the work will be done in the last 10% of the scheduled time and then they'll pat themselves on the back for doing such a great job.

I'm interested in seeing what a 20 foot $14.8 million bridge looks like. Gold plated maybe?

Walney Road is closed from Westfields Blvd. to Mariah Court for relocation of existing sanitary sewer line and for bridge construction and will be open to one lane of vehicular traffic in each direction on September 1, 2015.

From pics above; there's still at least 3 months of site prep left. Rebar is up on one footing; probably 2 weeks to put up forming and another month plus for cure to design specs. Opposite footing at least piles have been driven. Probably using pre stressed so that is being poured now and shipped to site once footings have cured. Either way, they're on a time crunch cause come spring they're not allowed to obstruct that stream.

I'm not worried about them obstructing the stream. I worried about them obstructing my CAR!
