Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I have a pear tree right next to my bedroom. If I didn't know it smelled like cum before I was married I might have killed my husband when I come home and the bedroom smells like cum!
I have a pretty good sense of smell and can attest that cum is odorless. Perhaps if someone has an unusual diet there might be some odor, but normally it has no smell at all.
So those trees are Bradford Pear trees, all the rage circa 1968 when many of our large neighborhoods were being developed. They were plentiful, inexpensive, trendy and sought after because they grew quickly and planted near the street, would create a lovely canopy with white blossoms and remained leafy and lush looking year round. But, these trees had a weird center of gravity - the limbs grew huge and heavy and would snap off or the entire tree as it ages would be so heavy that it would topple.
Yes, when they bloom they smell like cum or even grosser, a bit like warm, rotting yard debris.
When I lived up in Alexandria, the apartment complex had Bradford Pears all over the place, especially around the parking lots. Saw many a main limb cleave off in a snow or thunder strom and come down on some poor sod's car roof denting the fucker in and smashing windshields. Drove by there earleier this year and they finally cut them dwon and pulled the stumps.
Water gets into the area where the branch and trunck meat and rots out causing the main branches to peal right off in bad storms. Those and forsythia's are fucking assholes of the plant world.
