Otis if you have to ask that then you are obviously not old enough to purchase alcohol you little bastard. Go round up your crew and pitch in that crucial 10 bucks to get you the gigantic size death bottle of aristocrat at the ABC store....guranteed to get you poisoned within hours.
Ya know, I've honestly wondered the same question. Being from California, I know that most items bought out there from places like Vons, Safeway, Albertsons, etc., is a lot cheaper than state controlled pricing.
I am sure that if you went to a liquor store on K Street or in Georgetown, it will probably be more expensive than in Virginia.
But, stores in Oxon Hill and Silver Spring. Maybe not so much.
Of course you have to consider gas expense, maintenance, and the possibility that buying a lot of alchohol and transporting it across state lines could be illegal, but we're being theoretical here, right?

I grew up near the PA/NJ border, and every now and then the cops would bust people bringing alcohol back over the border. PA would send state cops to cruise the liquor store parking lots near the border, and if they saw PA tags, they'd follow people back into PA and stop them. I think you were allowed to bring like 2 or 3 gallons of booze, but sometimes they'd nail people with a whole trunk load of bottles.
Not sure if they do that around here, but it's something to keep in mind.
DC is the cheapest because of tax. However you are only allowed to bring one bottle or gallon into Virginia. Any more than that and you are bootlegging.
In the old days DC cops use to sit outside of Calverts and watch for people with VA tags buying boxes of alcohol. The DC cops would then follow them over the DC line into VA and bust them.

Yes VA will get you with RICO. They don't like loosing their precious alcohol tax monopoly one bit.

Wow - are you that obnoxious all the time? Or just a douchbag on line? I'm 38 and found this chain because I'm curious. Don't be a dick. Answer the question if you know. Don't if you don't. You offended me with your original comment. I'm sure you're the kind who will want to write back something obnoxious to me, but know I dont care and will never read it!
Virginia cops will bust you if you try to get more than one gallon of liquor across state line. THey are specially vigilant around weekend and holidays. This shit is not even a misdemeanor it's a fucking felony.

Bumped since its the Memorial Day weekend and I was about to do the same thing....head to MD where its cheaper to buy booze. ABC stores are a joke when it comes to pricing- I ALWAYS find it cheaper in MD or DC.
Everyone be careful out there making their purchases and coming back to VA- you know those boys will be out there trying to make busts since its also the end of the month...quota time...

Amen, flight risk! Thanks for reminding people for the upcoming holiday.
I usually go into DC to pick up liquor around Georgetown (if I'm already in the district) and since my friend runs one of the shops I get a little discount, so it's definitely worth while for me. If the police do not have anything better to do than try and bust me for bringing back liquor, I will be pissed.

I'm not sure it's legal for a VA State Trooper to setup surveillance inside the DC limits. He for damn sure has no business stopping you until AFTER you've crossed back into VA because it's not a crime until you enter VA with the alcohol purchased in DC that's over the aforementioned limit.
I wonder what would happen if you were stopped, ticketed and went into court and said you spotted the trooper in DC at your place of purchase?
I mean besides the judge saying, "Well, dumbass...if you saw a VA State trooper parked there at the liquor store, why'd you take alcohol from DC into VA?!?!"

Va and md. Have a 80% markup. D.C.'s markup isset by the owner. Usually they only mark it up 20%. You do the math. I was shocked and delighted when I stumbled in to a DC store and found my fav. Drink for about 50% discount compaired to ABC store prices.
How about the county north of Starke Fl.? I will admit it was 1981, came thru torrid T storms stopped to buy some beer , dry county. Was told ride 20 miles south. I did got a six and went to a Holiday Inn or something across the street. Slept like a baby. Next day got up birds singing sunshine. Got a simple bacon and eggs toast breakfast there with a 'Good Morning Egg" older waitress I still remember it , was great and I gave her a good tip. , then back on the road again. Right past the sign that said Florida State Prison. it was a bit away. then later that day I rode thur a little town, brand new police cars, strange. I slowed way down as I passed thur Waldo Fl with my 4x4 redneck Ford PU with a equipment trailer behind. The nations #1 speed trap. Maybe the Redneck look kept me out of a ticket?
In The day I used to go to Meades in PG or DC on the line over the Wilson bridge. Dixie had too many ABC cops even back then keeping a eyeball on the place, not only for under age , but too much liquor bought.
Cheap liquor is in Delaware for your short answer after a long story ,Take a ride North next time you go to O.C. Md.
I'm getting old can't help it sonny. You will understand someday.
