Useless Traffic Reports

So traffic reports on the radio around here are so useless as to be useless. Why report on a back-up/slowdown at a spot that is backed-up/slowed-down every single rush hour?

This morning I heard them mention that there was an accident at an intersection I was going to be going through in about 2 miles. Aha! I thought - some actual useful information. I prepared to take a detour but as I approached the last available detour route, I noticed there was no back-up in sight. So I drove right through aforementioned intersection and there was no sign of an accident. On the rest of my commute to work I heard them mention the same intersection several more times - the last time reporting that the accident was "clearing."

Waze way better...

It actually pisses me off when they DON'T report on a congestion that is there every day. Not everyone is going the same place every day. People have appointments, sales calls, other places to go and need traffic information.

But I agree the radio is often useless. Occasionally it has some benefits over the waze app though.

If I hear "Father Hurley Boulevard" one more time on WTOP when driving somewhere in Fairfax, I just might have an aneurysm. No one gives a fuck.

While I avoid Maryland like the plague, I have learned that I-270 southbound slows in Urbana to the truck scales. Every. Single. Morning.

Thank you, Stan Thomas.

Google maps traffic button... fuck everything else. Google maps will also stream you live direction changes based on traffic volume.

I thought they only provided Maryland traffic 66/495/95 in Virginia. Seems like any street other than the aforementioned don't exist in Va.

The traffic report is recorded once or twice a year and then replayed every weekday. Nothing changes, so why waste the time and money having someone tell you every day that I-66 or I-95 is a parking lot?

What a bunch of whiners.

First, unless their are traffic cameras, they report on what's being told to them. If you see something alternate. You can call them and contribute rather than just whine about everything. It's not like WTOP and other stations have dedicated staff at every mile marker of a road. That's commonsense sherlock.

Next, they do tend to report on congestion pretty much everyday. Try listening for once. They use the word "volume" instead of congestion. Maybe your English comprehension needs some work. And of course they spend most of their time talking about major roads. Shorter side commuter roads see less traffic and usually only get reported on if there's a major issue or wreck.
