Dulles Airport noise
Posted by: Jack Jaw ()

Lived in Fairfax for years, but only recently been living in Chantilly area. Just curious if anyone new what the noise is that comes from Dulles Airport in the wee hours of the morning? It sounds like a huge plane just running it's engines for an hour or two sometimes. I hear it when I'm walking my dogs at 4 in the morning. Just curious.

I am sorry for that noise. That noise is from my log splitting machine. I have had lots of big jobs and have had to work late into the night. No need to call the sheriff.

That fucking airport has been there for 50 years. When you bought your house you knew it was there, so shut the hell up about the noise.

What they are doing is none of your business anyway - Fuck off asshole.

You're not too bright are you? You are asking if there is plane noise coming from an airport?

I live near Dulles. I eat at Tippy's regularly. Sorry for the noise. At least you don't have to smell the after affects.

Hmm... noise from an airport. Wonder what that could be.

Ah-HA!

Maintenance...

That's a low traffic time.

You're pretty stupid.

Wow, so many morons replying stupidly to a reasonable question. Let's review, shall we, kids?

OP *said* it sounds like a plane, but goes on for an extended period.

Further, OP also made it clear (s)he wasn't complaining, was just curious.

Finally, unless (s)he has a magic dog, walking of said beast must occur at other times, so anyone with a working brain would infer that the noise doesn't occur during those other periods.

Next time you go upstairs to raid the fridge, ask your mom what you should say when you don't have anything useful to add to a discussion.

Meanwhile, back to the original question: I would be curious too. If it's maintenance, it seems odd that it would be so frequent and sustained. One hypothesis: OP is far enough from the airport that it *is* maintenance, but the sound of various engines blurs into a susurrus that sounds like one engine.

The very next question after someone answers the OP, will be "Do they have to make that noise?"

If I had to take a wild guess I would say generator testing.

With a vocab like that, you might be a bit too smart for this place.

All types of aircraft maintenance activities, including turbine engine overhauls. Depends on which way the aircraft is parked -- if you are directly behind the turbine exhaust, you can literally hear the engine whine for miles.

It's a frikkin' airport. Of course there is going to be all kinds of loud noises. OP is an idiot.
