Handicap Parking
Date: March 14, 2015 01:33PM

I understand the need for handicapped parking spaces, but today I saw a 60-ish lady pull into a handicapped parking space at Giant and walk perfectly normal into the store. While in the store she walked up and down many aisles and showed no signs of anything wrong with her. This is not the first time I have seen these "handicappers" do this. Pisses me off.

So you stalked her all through the store. That's more disturbing than her parking. Was she a GILF or are you just freaky?

People have all kinds of disabilities, not all of them visible.

I look at the women in the 20 to 40 year old range. Their asses have a nice wiggle, and I don't get pissed of because the park in a Handicap spot.

But I do have to go home and jerk-off.

some of you don't remember in late 90's , when bull-o-va gov was "impetulant" and letting in immigrants for cash and doing anything at all they wished ...

also there was NEWS IN THE PAPERS (so many witnessed it and the town was talking)

that fx co gov had been handing out handi-cap stickers to people who were not disabled and walked just fine - county workers of course

and the same favis had been working other scams with doctors as well - it was NOT just the stickers

This is correct. My daughter had temporary pass due to a back injury. She could walk around, but long distances and heavy lifting were not on her list of capabilities. You would not have known it to look at her.

There are a lot of people with heart conditions, etc. that are not obvious.

Don't get involved in second guessing this. It is not your business. As long as she has the placard and it is for her, the onus is on the physician who signed off the form.

So she can walk from one side of Giant to the other but she can't walk four additional parking spaces?

If they have the permit they can park in handicapped (as long as her name is on the permit). They don't have to park in a non-handicapped space even if it is the next one over. You can't win at this one.
Yes, there are some people who abuse this. But, that is between them, their doctor, and the DMV. Maybe the police.
You can't go accusing people of not rating a handicapped parking permit.
Give up.

Passes are issued by the state DMV on a doctor's orders. They are for ONE individual not for the driver. Each individual has a card that they must have with them should law enforcement check, but I doubt they ever do. A person with severe arthritis or a heart condition may look fine, but be in great pain or become short of breath as they go up and down the aisles in Giant. Where the abuse happens in when drivers use the pass and the handicap person is not in the vehicle. OR if they have a counterfeit pass. As the holder of a pass I truly appreciate the benefit. It is not just the steps saved, but the wider space for doors to be opened. Must admit it really bothers me to see teens pull into a space, put the card in place and bound out. I have true doubts they are in fact disabled. "It is what it is" has the right message. Give up!

It is correct that the permit might not be for the driver. If they are the only person in the car it HAS to be for them. I had a 20 year old who looked fine but after her car accident dealt with back spasms if she did too much walking. The temporary permit was a Godsend, particularly away at college. She could park close to her classes and leave her heavy book bag in the car. It was the only way she got through the semester.

You have no business meddling with people on this issue. It is an issue for the doctor, the DMV, the police. You cannot make sarcastic remarks about a situation you know nothing about. I agree there are some people who don't look like they have problems and there are some people gaming the system. Give up.

# Don't go there.

I'm in my early 30's with a placard. About once a month I also have some douchebag make a comment about me parking in a spot. I simply respond with "Thanks for your concern, my apologies that it's not obvious to you that I'm a disabled veteran."

I have a military related injury that prevents me walking long distances or putting much weight on my leg. Some days are better than others, but parking close to a facility that I intend to patronize certainly helps minimize the pain. When there are spots available immediately next to a handicap spot, I will take those also to reserve the larger spots for those who have vans/lifts.

Either way - point is, not everyone has a visible injury, so you should probably spend more time sucking cock than worrying about people who have handicap placards.

And you should have come home in a box. The best part of you ran down your Mom's leg. Fuck you and your veteran's sense of entitlement after willingly signing up to conduct our country's geo-political terrorism in the name of securing natural resources and raw materials.

Thank you for your service and I am glad that you don't use the handicapped spots when there is another good option available and leave those spots for vans, etc.

You presented yourself very nicely until your final sentence and then you destroyed your dignity.

If you are a disabled vet you can get one free disabled vet license plate and registration by turning your form 54 in to the DMV. That should shut some of the douchebags up.

You can also buy a bumper sticker that reads "If you are reading this in English, thank a vet".

There are also other options for a veteran if you did not rate a Form 54.

It is hard to keep your cool when a douche bag is being a jerk and messing in things they have no right to mess with. I think Vet just lost it there for a bit.

The best way to deal with them is to keep your cool, smile, tell them to call the police if they think you don't deserve a handicapped parking spot. Copy the non-emergency number on a few cards and give it to them. I would love to see the look on their face after that. Sweet. You don't owe any explanations to anybody except your doctor, the police, and the DMV. A snarky attitude does not bode well for the reputation of all veterans. Calm control works wonders.

I would get a Veteran's plate. Well worth the money if you don't rate a free one. I personally like the Purple Heart plates. Those are very obvious. That ought to keep a few at bay.

"You don't like me parking here? Take away my Purple Heart, buddy."

Obviously some of these people are able-bodied and abusing the system. Who knows, as stated it is hard to tell and pointless to judge by looks. It is more of a concern to genuinely handicapped people who cannot find a space. The cheaters are cheating themselves- lazy behaviour will only hasten the day when they will be unable to walk from a spot further out. You or I could find a far-off spot and sprint into the store in under 15 seconds anyway. How's your 100 Meter dash time?

I myself try to park way out, far away from all the crazy people fighting over the closest parking spot, all the people backing into their spot, people wandering around texting instead of looking where they are going, people trying to shove too big of a vehicle into too small of a spot because by God it is the closest parking spot. I the walk into the stores chuckling at the people trying to have an accident or kill themselves. I need the exercise.

What does that have to do with handicapped parking?

Handicapped people need the spots closest to the buildings because many of them can't traverse long distances on foot, crutches or wheelchairs. I'm sure most of them would "like to get the exercise", too but they're disabled. This doesn't make them lazy.

It's abused, but difficult to police. Some people have temporary injuries, but go on using the spaces after they've healed. Some people are drivers for disabled relative(s), but use the spaces even when there is no passenger with a disability. There usually aren't many handicapped spaces in a lot, and most are usually open, except during holiday shopping or before FCPS is about to close schools for weather.

Oh, ok...good to know.

I was under the impression the docs were correct in giving me a permit for handicapped plates after you know...LOSING MY LEG TO AN IED IN AFGHANISTAN AND BEING ISSUED A PROSTHETIC. I will head to the DMV now to turn in my plates. Hopefully, they don't fine me...

I was in Rochester, NY a couple of years ago (wait for it, there's Fairfax relevance coming!), helping my sister-in-law, who uses a walker. Some maroon parked his Volvo blocking the curb-cut, which was located between two handicapped spaces in a striped ("zebra") zone.

The car had VA tags and a Madeira School sticker. After the nurse took my s-i-l back, I went down and left a nastygram on the windshield. I'm not enough of an asshole to have vandalized the car, but sure felt like it...
